    Library Assistant Interns - 2 Posts

    Vacancy Codes (Lib Asst 24-1)

    Job Purpose:

    This position holders will undertake responsibilities encompassing various facets of library services, ensuring their seamless execution and support.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Provide circulation desk services.
    • Sort books, publications, and other items according to established procedures and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas.
    • Instruct patrons how to access and use library resources.
    • Locate library materials for patrons, including books, periodicals, and articles.
    • Perform user education and orientation for library users, including preparing library guides and promotional materials and assisting patrons in locating library materials.
    • Perform collection maintenance activities including inventory, weeding and minor repairs of damaged information materials.
    • Sort and shelve information materials according to the classification scheme in use to ensure ease of retrieval by users, including shelve reading.
    • Participate in the processing of new library materials as assigned.
    • Undertake any other duty as may be required.

    Minimum Academic Qualifications and Experience:

    • A Bachelor’s degree or a diploma in Library Science or related field.
    • Must be conversant with library management systems (preferably KOHA).
    • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office Tools.
    • Must be conversant with LC Classification system.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Interpersonal and exemplary communication skills.
    • Must be proactive, self-driven and goal oriented.
    • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
    • Must be computer literate.
