    Manager, Cards and Payments

    Job Purpose;

    • To own and drive the Card and Payments strategy for the country (as a Universal Capability) in alignment with CHNW, BCC and WC and is accountable for delivery thereof across business lines including Corporate Functions.
    • To be accountable for the overall performance (i.e. financial, risk and people) of Card and Payments in country across business lines

    Outputs;

    Card and Payment Strategy

    • Executes the Card and Payments strategy in alignment with WC, BCC, CHNW and coordinates across the value chain (including Corporate Functions) in order to achieve the following outcomes:
      • Customer growth
      • Return on Equity
      • Favourable JAWS ratio
      • Improvement in Cost to Income ratio
      • Headline Earnings
    • Accountable for the execution of the Card and Payments toolbox
    • Accountable for input of the design and development of Card and Payments products and related services to address personal country market and client needs and product risk
    • Accountable for the execution of a client-centric Card and Payments experience including client standards, policies and practices that accounts for the interplay across all business lines
    • Accountable for overall Card and Payments product design and digitisation of product solutions aligned to customer requirements.
    • Accountable for fulfilling agreed third party agreements and (e.g., Mastercard) alliances; and joint ventures agreements with country input where required.
    • Accountable for the execution of third party sales channels and partnerships (e.g., Professional Provident Society)
    • Accountable for the implementation of the client risk appetite framework aligned to PBB Group minimum standards and ensures there’s alignment between Risk and business.
    • Keeps abreast of country specific industry trends and macro challenges and adjusts Card and Payments tactical plan accordingly.
    • Enables implementation of the strategy through skills transfer, coaching and where necessary provides subject matter expertise for deal complexity.
    • Drives excellent consistent customer experience as gauged through the Net Promoter Score.

    People Practices

    • Provides input into the Human Capital People Plan for Card and Payments in alignment with Client Solutions Human Capital.
    • Identifies current and potential employee skill requirements in consultation with the Client Solutions Human Capital function.
    • Determines and guides performance and associated award in consultation with Client Solutions Human Capital, and in alignment with SBG guidelines.
    • Ensures alignment to the Client Solutions Human Capital standards with regards to all employee-related matters.
    • Provides input to talent strategy developed by Client Solutions Human Capital.
    • Mobilizes employees in order to fulfil the bank’s objectives regarding customer service; sales; people management and engagement; transformation; risk and compliance.

    Risk Management;

    • Defines Card and Payments risk framework and appetite in consultation with CHNW and BCC Group Risk (where relevant WC Risk).
    • Sets risk control procedures and governance related to Card and Payments in consultation with CHNW and BCC Group Risk (where relevant WC Risk).
    • Accountable for risk management across the value chain (e.g. operational and credit risk) in alignment with CHNW and BCC Group Risk (where relevant WC Risk).
    • Monitors and ensures adherence to risk framework, appetite, risk control procedures, governance and risk and conduct toolbox.
    • Oversees the development and monitoring of risk forecast models across Card and Payments in conjunction with CHNW and BCC Group Risk ((where relevant WC Risk).
    • Defines the Card and Payments operational risk assessment standards; monitors adherence by countries and drives closure of all remediation actions.
    • Drives satisfactory audits and ensures that there are no repeat unsatisfactory audits as gauged by operational losses - retains central oversight of all risk and remediation matters relating to Card and Payments.

    Financial Performance Management;

    • Defines the financial outcomes required for Card and Payments in consultation with WC, CHNW and BCC
    • Accountable for and owns the income statement and financial outcomes for Card and Payments.
    • Monitors implementation of agreed financial outcomes and ensures that countries define and implement remedial actions.
    • Retains oversight of financial and non-financial metrics (e.g. number of customer defaults, net promoter score, etc.) across Card and Payments.
    • Leads decision making relating to Card and Payments investment spend and trade-off decisions.
    • Sets and monitors appropriate capital and liquidity requirements in conjunction with Group ALCO (Assets and Liabilities Committee).

    Social Responsibility;

    • Ensures that social, economic and environmental initiatives are embedded in the Card and Payments strategy, culture and ways of working (e.g. financial inclusion, job creation and enterprise development, infrastructure, education skills and development, and employee development training).
       

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Post graduate degree; Business and Commerce
    • 10 years Experience in managing a balance sheet and income statement.  Experience in the management of Card and Payments as a product, including the payments industry, third party sales channels and partnerships.
