    Manager, Content and Communications

    • FSD Africa’s Manager, Content and Communication supports the Director, Strategic Communications to deliver a number of important objectives.
    • Specifically, these include strategic influencing and engagement, brand building, content creation and dissemination, and knowledge management, insights and learning. This work contributes to the development of industry leading content and communication activity by FSD Africa, underpinned by high quality planning and execution. It ultimately positions FSD Africa as a trusted counterpart to financial sector development funders, policy makers and private sector actors.
    • In addition to the goals above, this Manager role will lead in specific areas, including internal communications, online channels (e.g. LinkedIn, X), events (e.g. webinars, workshops). The role will also include budget, team collaboration and consultant management responsibilities.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLE REQUIREMENTS

    • Strategic Influencing and Engagement
    • Support the development and implementation of creative, feasible and measurable strategies to influence and engage key decision-makers across the financial sector in Africa (public and private), but also in the UK, especially with His Majesty’s Government (HMG) and FCDO’s private sector department.
    • Support all FSD Africa’s Content and Communication activities; particularly via the delivery of key audience, messaging and campaign frameworks; building on key financial sector development insights from FSD Africa programme activity and wider market trends
    • Lead delivery of specific workplan & budget items for content creation and communications campaigns
    • Establish and sustain a close working relationship with FCDO’s communications teams, making sure they are regularly updated on FSD Africa’s communications activities; ensuring effective co- ordination and alignment between FCDO’s messaging (especially around FCDO “campaigns”) and FSD Africa’s external communications; participate in other meetings with FCDO teams, including those in priority countries, alongside the Director
    • Strategic Communications and other FSD Africa colleagues
    • Support the monitoring of implementation against the milestones of Content and Communications
    • Strategy: measuring traction with specific audiences to prove and improve engagement
    • Brand Building
    • Support the development of FSD Africa's written and visual brand assets to position FSD Africa as a major voice in the financial sector development space.
    • Support the roll out any written and visual branding updates to align with FSD Africa’s new strategic direction
    • Content Creation, Management & Dissemination
    • Support the consistent production and dissemination of industry leading content by upgrading internal communications processes, as well as delivering excellent written and visual content directly.
    • Provide hands on support in the process of initiating and finalising content production and dissemination – reports, videos, photography, infographics, blogs etc.
    • Maintain a library of assets – image, video, graphics, stakeholder content
    • Write content and oversee visuals and design; monitor breaking news and take initiative to respond appropriately
    • Supervise the work of suppliers/ 3rd parties to support in research, interviewing, writing, editing, proofreading and distributing content for electronic and print communication
    • Support the management of a pool of contractors – Press Office, designers, editors, photo/videographers etc.
    • Online Platforms Management
    • Within the context of the Content and Communications Strategy, lead the development and management of an industry-leading online presence for FSD Africa through its website and digital media platforms.
    • Lead the preparation and tactical dissemination of high-quality content on FSD Africa’s website, ‘X’ handle and LinkedIn channel, as well as other platforms/channels as they emerge.
    • Support front-end and back-end website development, online/offline design, uploading of content, ensuring up-to-date, accurate information about members; regular and engaging content about their impact; and relevant resources on key advocacy priorities
    • Develop ideas for the use of social media to achieve goals, demonstrating the ability to use social media strategically and in a measurable way
    • Events, Webinars and Workshops
    • Within the context of the Content and Communications Strategy, support and lead the delivery of FSD Africa’s in-person/virtual event activity.
    • Management and co-ordination of relevant events, in line with FSD Africa’s advocacy and communications strategy
    • Management of event and marketing calendars and coordination of the creation and dissemination of marketing material (banners, registration/event pages, invites, on-theday branding, agendas etc)
    • Management of hosting rights and capabilities – registration access/management, stakeholder updates, conducting dry-runs, post-event activities
    • Monitoring, evaluation and reporting
    • Knowledge Management, Insights and Learning
    • Work closely with colleagues in the Strategic Communications & Development Impact teams to ensure knowledge is managed and communicated effectively to promote internal learning and external influence.
    • Lead in the development, implementation, and maintenance of FSD Africa’s internal communications strategy
    • Develop and execute internal communications capacity building modules and exercises for staff
    • Monitor, report and adjust internal communications practices and channels/tools in the initial phase
    • Revamp, update and advise on communications resources on the intranet as directed
    • Team Collaboration
    • Manage selected external consultants, but also collaborate in a trusted, effective way with colleagues across FSD Africa.
    • Successfully procure and manage communications contractors and freelancers taking relevant budget responsibilities
    • Support the delivery of targeted skills-development training as necessary to ensure quality outputs
    • Carry out any other duties or special assignments as assigned by the Management or colleagues

    PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

    • Qualifications and Education
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Public Relations, Marketing, English, Journalism, or a related communications field
    • Excellent written and verbal skills

    Essential Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

    • A minimum of 6-8 years of professional experience in a of professional experience in communications, media or public relations, ideally within a private sector, development department or agency
    • Ability to commission, write and review high volumes of industry-leading content, creating written, visual or audio content, sometimes at short notice
    • Ability to use social media strategically; developing with ideas for expanding the organisation's reach and impact
    • Experience of managing websites and other channels; especially the monitoring of usage and uptake statistics to optimise performance
    • Experience of managing and external contractors/freelancers; including vision setting, budgeting and procurement
    • Demonstrated ability to co-ordinate the work of colleagues across the organisation and manage external suppliers and providers
    • Experience in delivering high quality professional events
    • Good working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop or other creative software
