Position scope
KTDA Foundation and Social enterprise mandate is to initiate interventions that improve the welfare of small holder tea farmers in Kenya through strategic partnerships in areas of education, health, economic empowerment and environmental conservation.
Reporting to the General Manager KTDA Foundation and Social Enterprises, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the business initiatives and efforts to mobilize and secure funding and build sustainable business partnerships, networks and linkages to enable the Foundation achieve its mission to revitalize the smallholder tea sector in Kenya.
Duties and Responsibilities
Resource Mobilization Strategy Development and Implementation
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive resource mobilization strategy aligned with the KTDA Holdings and KTDA Foundation’s strategic plans and funding priorities
- Identifying and researching potential funding sources, including foundations, corporations, government agencies, multilateral organizations, and individual donors
- Cultivating and maintaining relationships with existing and prospective donors, providing regular updates on the Foundation’s work and impact
- Preparing compelling grant proposals, fundraising materials, and presentations to secure funding for the Foundation’s programs and social enterprise
- Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of resource mobilization activities, tracking progress against goals, and making adjustments as needed.
Business Development and Partnership Management
- Identifying and developing innovative business opportunities that generate revenue to support the KTDA Foundation’s activities
- Conducting market research and feasibility studies to assess the viability of potential business ventures
- Developing business plans and financial models for new business initiatives
- Negotiating and managing partnerships with private sector companies, UN Agencies, Government Funding Agencies, NGOs, and other organizations to leverage their expertise, resources, and networks.
- Developing and implementing partnership agreements, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and mutual benefits
Fundraising and Grant Management
- Managing the full grant cycle, from proposal development to reporting and evaluation.
- Ensuring compliance with all donor requirements and regulations.
- Tracking grant expenditures and preparing regular financial reports for donors.
- Maintaining accurate records of all fundraising activities and donor communications.
Donor and Stakeholder Engagement
- Organizing and hosting donor events and site visits to showcase the KTDA Foundation’s work and impact.
- Developing and maintaining a database of donors and stakeholders.
- Preparing regular communication materials, such as newsletters and annual reports, to keep donors and stakeholders informed about the Foundation’s activities.
- Representing the KTDA Foundation at relevant industry events and conferences.
Marketing Analysis and Opportunity Identification
- Conducting market research to identify opportunities for new development programs and social enterprises
- Analyzing market trends and competitive landscapes to inform strategic decision-making
- Developing a strong understanding of the smallholder tea sector in Kenya and the challenges faced by farmers
Collaboration and Coordination
- Working closely with other departments within the KTDA Foundation and KTDA Group to ensure alignment of resource mobilization and business development efforts with program priorities in education, livelihoods/economic empowerment, environmental sustainability & climate change, and health.
- Collaborating with the Head of Social Enterprise to identify and develop funding opportunities for social enterprise initiatives.
- Supporting the KTDA Foundation’s communications team to develop compelling stories and materials to promote the Foundation’s work.
Reporting and Analysis
- Preparing regular reports on resource mobilization and business development activities for the Board, Management, and other stakeholders.
- Analyzing fundraising and business development data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications/Skills/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Humanities, Business Administration, Marketing, International Development, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in fundraising, business development, or partnership management, preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Must have a proven track record of successfully securing funding from diverse sources.
- Should have a strong understanding of grant writing principles and practices.
- Must have experience in developing and managing partnerships with private sector companies and NGOs.
- Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with the smallholder tea sector in Kenya (or relevant region) is a plus.
- Must have knowledge of financial management and budgeting principle.
