    Marine Project Assistant

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of a collaborative mangrove conservation and restoration project between Government agencies, IUCN, Wetlands International and other partner organizations. The project aims to deliver impactful outcomes in biodiversity and coastal resilience, with a specific focus on strengthening legal frameworks, promoting locally managed conserved and protected areas, and implementing mangrove restoration and conservation activities in Kenya.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    This position shall supervise the role of Interns.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Support timely implementation of project activities in line with work plans to achieve WWF – Kenya strategic plan.
    • Assist in providing capacity-building support to local communities, governments, and relevant stakeholders for the successful implementation of mangrove conservation and restoration initiatives.
    • Support partner organizations and other stakeholders in coordinating policy dialogues and project activities.
    • Assist in translating national, regional, and international commitments and targets on mangrove conservation into practical action, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
    • Provide overall administrative support to the project team, including organizing meetings, preparing agendas, and documenting minutes.
    • Providing administrative and operational support to the Project including coordinating project-related logistics, workshops, events, and field visits.
    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting on project activities, milestones, and deliverables.
    • Perform any other relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Forestry or a related field.
    • At least 2 years of experience in project implementation, preferably in integrated coastal and mangrove conservation and livelihood improvement initiatives, climate change, advocacy or related fields.
    • Experience in community engagement and supporting grant recipients is an added advantage.
    • ​Demonstrated communication and reporting skills.

    REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to network, develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels.
    • Understanding of mangrove conservation-climate nexus
    • Project management skills
    • Organizational and communication skills.
    • Basic financial management skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili
    • Computer literate and proficient in MS Office applications

    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

    • Internal: Interacts with the Head of Conservation programmes, Heads of departments and all WWF-Kenya staff.
    • External: Interacts with WWF Network, National and County government ministries and departments, regulatory bodies, Civil Society Organizations, and other conservation agencies.
