Medical Specialist (Psychiatry) - Mathari Teaching and Referral Hospital at Public Service Commission Kenya (PSCK)

Duties and Responsibilities 
Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:- 

• Providing specialized health services to patients;
• Performing medical procedures;
• Undertaking “On-Call” duties;
• Conducting operational and clinical research;
• Conducting health promotion;
• Assisting in training and mentorship of junior staff and students;
• Running speciality outpatient clinics;
• Conducting ward rounds;
• Undertaking medical legal assessment and writing reports;
• Providing expert evidence in court;
• Referring patients to other specialists or hospital; and
• Offering liaison medical services.

 For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:- 

• Served for a minimum period of three (3) years at the grade of Senior Medical Officer, CSG ‘8’ or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service or private sector;  
• A Bachelors Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized university in Kenya;
• A Masters Degree in Psychiatry or its equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
• Registration and licencing by a recognized regulatory body as applicable;
• Membership to a relevant professional body where applicable; and
• Demonstrated managerial, administrative and professional competencies in work performance and results
