The Kenya Law Reform Commission (the Commission) is established by the Kenya Law Reform Commission Act, No. 19 of 2013 (the Act). Presidential assent was given on 14 January 2013 and the Act came into force on 25th January 2013. The Commission has a statutory and ongoing role of reviewing all the law of Kenya to ensure that it is modernized, relevant and harmonized with the Constitution of Kenya. Following the promulgation of the Constitution in 2010, the Commission has an additional mandate of preparing new legislation to give effect to the Constitution. The third mandate is found in the County Governments Act, No. 17 of 2012 which requires the Commission to assist the county governments in the development of their laws.
A person shall be qualified for appointment as Member of the Kenya Law Reform Commission if he/she:
PLEASE NOTE: In compliance with Section 10 of the Kenya Law Reform Commission Act, 2013, a person shall not be qualified for nomination and appointment as Chairperson or Member of the Commission if the person:-
TERMS OF SERVICE
The chairperson shall be appointed for a single term of six (6) years and is not eligible for re-appointment.
A member of the Commission shall be appointed for a single term of five (5) years and is not eligible for re-appointment.
The chairperson and members of the Commission, other than the ex - officio members, shall serve on a full time basis.
Each application should be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of relevant academic and professional certificates, testimonials and other relevant supporting documents.
A copy of the National Identity Card/Passport should be appended.
