Metallurgist I - 2 Posts at Public Service Commission Kenya (PSCK)

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have

• a Bachelors degree in Mining and Mineral Processing, Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from a university recognized in Kenya; 
•  professional registration with a relevant engineering body (e.g. Engineers Registration Board); and
•  Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) and metallurgical software, as well as data analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will include:-

• ensuring metal components meet engineering specifications (tensile strength, hardness, toughness);
• investigating root causes of metal failure, corrosion, or fatigue in machinery and infrastructure;
• monitoring and improving extractive metallurgy processes (pyro metallurgy/ hydrometallurgy) and heat treatment procedures;
• preparing detailed reports on experimental results, material properties, and recommendations for material selection; and
• mentoring or supervising laboratory technicians and junior metallurgists.
