Duties and Responsibilities
This is an entry and training grade for officers in the social or public service sector. An officer at this level maybe deployed in any of the following:

• Social Sector
• Public Service Sector

At Social Sector
The duties and responsibilities at this level will include: -

• undertaking research for resource mobilization;
• collecting and analyzing data on social sector reforms;
• collecting and collating data for Special Government Initiatives;
•  preparing data collection tools for tracking the institutionalization of Special Government Initiatives in public sector institutions.

At Public Service Sector
The duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

• collecting, collating and compiling data on the implementation of Public Sector Reforms;
•  collecting data for Business Process Re-engineering (BPR);
• undertaking training and capacity-building for MDAs implementing Public Sector Reforms;
• collecting and collating data on thematic areas on innovation and incubation of public sector reforms;
• collecting data on for technical advice to support MDAs on Public Sector Reforms; and
• updating in information in the Central Database for public sector reforms.

• preparing preliminary working documents for sensitization of stakeholders on safety, security, and prevention of marine environment by ships and other watercraft.

• collecting and recording petroleum engineering data on drilling, production, and reservoir performance;
• participating in petroleum drilling and related engineering work programs for designated projects;
• participating in petroleum resource evaluation;
• participating in measurement and calibration of down hole parameters including temperature flow rate and pressure of oil and gas; and)
• monitoring installation, operation, and maintenance of petroleum engineering equipment and facilities.

This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will include: -

• collecting and analyzing information required for petroleum audits, risk assessments and compliance reviews;
• assisting in the review of Work Programs and Budgets, Field Development Plans and other petroleum proposals;
• monitoring compliance with petroleum agreements, Government approvals, statutory payments, guarantees and other obligations.
• participating in examination of upstream petroleum operations books of account;
• participating in verifying accounting entries, material records and inventories, vouchers, invoices and any other documents, correspondences and upstream records;
•  participating in inspection of plants, facilities and warehouses of petroleum operations;

• participating in the development of mechanisms for grievance and dispute resolution;
•  participating in social performance audits of community development projects;
•  participating in promotion of public awareness and sensitization on petroleum impacts; and
• participating in the preparation of feedback mechanisms on matters social development in petroleum operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will include:-

• participating in collection and compilation of petroleum data;
• participating in updating petroleum and technical databases;
• participating in labeling and sample preparation for analytical work; and
• undertaking analysis on rock, water, oil and gas;
• participating in petroleum geoscientific field surveys; and
• assisting in maintenance of laboratory and survey equipment for geoscientific petroleum activities.

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have

• a Bachelors degree in Mining and Mineral Processing, Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from a university recognized in Kenya; 
•  professional registration with a relevant engineering body (e.g. Engineers Registration Board); and
•  Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) and metallurgical software, as well as data analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will include:-

• ensuring metal components meet engineering specifications (tensile strength, hardness, toughness);
• investigating root causes of metal failure, corrosion, or fatigue in machinery and infrastructure;
• monitoring and improving extractive metallurgy processes (pyro metallurgy/ hydrometallurgy) and heat treatment procedures;
• preparing detailed reports on experimental results, material properties, and recommendations for material selection; and
• mentoring or supervising laboratory technicians and junior metallurgists.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will include:-

• working with communities to identify and mobilize local resources for the implementation of development projects and Community Development Agreements (CDAs);
• guiding communities and stakeholders to develop Community Development Agreements (CDAs);
• supporting mining officers in community engagement on mineral beneficiation.
• liaising with local communities, artisanal miners, and other development agencies in Environmental Social Governance (ESG);
• supporting and facilitating artisanal miners to organize into formal groups, associations, or cooperatives for registration under the Mining Act;
• conducting sensitization for artisanal miners and stakeholders on sustainable mining practices, legal requirements, grievance handling, and the elimination of child labour;
• collecting sex, age, and disability-disaggregated data for all social development and mining community programs; and
• collecting and managing social development-related data for planning;

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will include:-

• cleaning and Sterilizing laboratory glassware
• documenting and receiving samples for analysis;
• preparing laboratory reagents;
• preparing and analyzing geological samples, gemstones; and
• disposing Laboratory waste.

• a Diploma in Gemstone Cutting, Lapidary, Gemology, Mineral Processing or Jewellery Technology from a recognized institution;
• knowledge of gemstone identification, grading, and valuation techniques; 
• ability to operate and maintain lapidary equipment; and
• Good hand–eye coordination, attention to detail, and manual dexterity.

• examining rough gemstones and determine the best cutting plan; 
• marking, sawing, splitting, and pre-forming gemstones for faceting; 
• cutting and facet gemstones to specified angles and proportions;

• a Bachelors degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, Mineral Processing or Materials Engineering from a university recognized in Kenya; and
• proficiency in using gemological testing instruments

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities will include: -

• examining and identifying minerals using basic, standard, and advanced mineral testing equipment;
• collecting, analyzing, and interpreting mineralogical data to support effective resource management and decision-making;
• assisting in grading and valuing gemstones to determine and enhance their market value;
• safely processing, pulverizing, and homogenizing incoming ore and mineral samples for laboratory analysis;
• performing routine quantitative analyses using XRF (X-ray Fluorescence), XRD (X-ray Diffraction), and spectrometer systems;
• calibrating and maintaining sensitive laboratory instruments, ensuring accurate results and complete batch chain-of-custody documentation;
• evaluating rough gemstones to estimate weight recovery and maximize polished gemstone yield; and
• performing and supervising precision gemstone processing, including sawing, pre-forming, faceting, and cabochon cutting.
