    Midwife/ Maternity Nurse

    Reports To:  NURSE-IN-CHARGE

    JOB PURPOSE

    Providing superior nursing care in management of prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care of patients. 

    MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

    • Delivering professional and high standard of nursing care within maternity by conducting regular checkups, examination during pregnancy, monitoring the health of the mother and the developing baby
    • Providing guidance on nutrition, exercise, and overall wellbeing of the mother to promote a healthy pregnancy
    • Assist and support women during labor and delivery, ensure safe and comfortable environment, monitor hemodynamic changes on both mother and child in utero and post-delivery and provide post-partum care.
    • Timely response to emergency within the department
    • Monitor and ensure clients satisfaction and proactively manage their complaints as they arise.
    • Review and ensure that nursing care plans are scientific, evidence based and address the priority needs of mother and child.
    • Liaise with doctors and other care providers regarding patients’ Plan of Care and Care solutions with emphasis on a team-based problem-solving approach.
    • Provide unified approach to patient care.
    • Accountable for ward inventory of all assets in the section (equipment, beds, surgical, drugs, solutions etc.) and account for stocks of consumables and ordered and utilized in the department.
    • Ensuring proper and timely documentation, maintaining proper records, confidentiality, and handing over between shifts at all times in maternity and any other ward where the nurse is deployed
    • Participate in development and ensure implementation of organizational and departmental policies and procedures (SOPs) and quality improvement plans in the section including infection prevention in maternity.
    • Ensuring all equipment in the section are in working condition at all times through compliance with the PPM and reporting promptly the faulty equipment including but not limited to quality reports, Ministry of health reports etc.
    • Control the departmental budget within the agreed parameters by ensuring efficient utilization of resources and proper charging with keen attention to billing instructions and monitoring of exclusions
    • Participate in business development and marketing activities and follow up on customer feedback.
    • Ensure safe and clean environment for staff patient/clients and visitors compliance with policies and protocols including health and safety, risk management and critical incident reporting.
    • Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS

    • Diploma in Kenya registered community Health Nurse/ Midwife (KRCHN/M) from a recognized institution.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery will be an added advantage.
    • A valid Nursing council license
    • Updated BLS, ACLS & EMONC training certifications.
    • At least 3 years’ experience in medical-surgical ward.
    • Knowledge in computer applications
