Part-Time Trainers in Maritime Safety at Mount Kenya University

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• Prior training experience
• Certified trainer with relevant maritime safety qualifications (e.g., STCW, IMO Model Courses)
• Strong knowledge of international maritime safety regulations and standards
• Minimum of 2-3 years’ sea service and prior teaching or training experience in a maritime institution is highly desirable
• Registered member of a relevant professional body in good standing will be an added advantage

Key responsibilities also include

Duties and responsibilities;

• Develop and deliver training programs on maritime safety, including:
• STCW safety courses (e.g., Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Firefighting, First Aid)
• Risk assessment and hazard identification
• Emergency preparedness and response
• Safety management systems (SMS) and ISM Code compliance
• Conduct classroom and practical training sessions using modern instructional techniques
• Evaluate trainee performance and provide feedback for continuous improvement
• Maintain and update training materials in line with regulatory changes and industry best practices
• Support audits and inspections related to safety training and compliance
