    Power Plant Operator

    DEPARTMENT: Electrical Power Generation and Distribution
    POSITION REPORT TO: POWER PLANT SUPERINTENDENT

    DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Adjusts controls to generate specified electrical power or to regulate the flow of power between generating stations and substations.
    • Monitors power plant equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems.
    • Controls generator output to match the phase, frequency, or voltage of electricity supplied to panels.
    • Controls or maintains auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, fans, compressors, condensers, feedwater heaters, filters, or chlorinators, to supply water, fuel, lubricants, air, or auxiliary power.
    • Controls power generating equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, or reactors, using control boards or semi-automatic equipment.
    • Operates, controls, or monitors equipment, such as acid or gas carbon dioxide removal units, carbon dioxide compressors, and pipelines, to capture, store, or transport carbon dioxide exhaust.
    • Starts or stops generators, auxiliary pumping equipment, turbines, or other power plant equipment as necessary.
    • Open and close valves and switches in sequence to start or shut down auxiliary units.
    • Communicates with systems operators to regulate and coordinate line voltages and transmission loads and frequencies.
    • Inspects records or logbook entries or communicate with plant personnel to assess equipment operating status.
    • Regulate equipment operations and conditions, such as water levels, based on instrument data or from computers.
    • Take regulatory action, based on readings from charts, meters and gauges, at established intervals.
    • Record and compile operational data by completing and maintaining forms, logs, or reports.
    • Clean, lubricate, or maintain equipment, such as generators, turbines, pumps, or compressors, to prevent failure or deterioration.
    • Operate, control, or monitor gasifiers or related equipment, such as coolers, water quenches, water gas shifts reactors, or sulfur recovery units, to produce syngas or electricity from coal.
    • Operates or maintains distributed power generation equipment, including fuel cells or microturbines, to produce energy on-site for manufacturing or other commercial purposes.
    • Examines and test electrical power distribution machinery and equipment, using testing devices.
    • Places standby emergency electrical generators online in emergencies and monitor the temperature, output, and lubrication of the system.
    • Adjusts or does minor repairs, such as tightening leaking gland and pipe joints.
    • Receives outage calls and request necessary personnel during power outages or emergencies.
    • Replenishes electrolytes in batteries and oil in voltage transformers and reset tripped electric relays.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must demonstrate the basic skills in all assignments associated with the operation and maintenance of the power generation plants and power plant control systems including the following as a minimum:
      • Starting and securing engines.
      • Paralleling AC generators, transferring, adding, or shedding loads.
      • Making necessary adjustments to maintain voltage and frequency within specified ranges.
      • Making necessary adjustments to reduce and minimize electrical system spinning reserve.
      • Taking the necessary casualty control and corrective measures for all emergency power generation situations.
      • Exhibiting advanced knowledge and skills in record keeping practices and engine log management.
      • Exhibiting advanced knowledge and skills in Lube Oil and Jacket Water programs.
      • Exhibiting advanced knowledge and skills in computer operation and utilization.
    • Must be able to read, interpret blueprints and design and follow engineering drawings, specifications, and instructions.
    • Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, bending, standing, climbing, or walking.
    • Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment.
    • Must speak, read, and understand the English Language.
    • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
    • Must have a valid Non-Pro or Professional Driver’s License with at least Restriction Code 2.
    • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including on-call shifts.

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING:

    Completed TESDA course with the National Certifications is a plus:

    • Diesel Power Plant Maintenance NC III
    • Diesel Power Plant Operation and Maintenance NC II & III
    • Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II, III & IV
    • Plant Maintenance NC I, II, III

    EDUCATION:

    Must have at least a High school Diploma, Technical or Vocational school graduate is required.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Must have successfully completed a 3-year apprenticeship program, and/or have at least 3-years of documented practical experience in power generation.
    • Previously worked on Caterpillar & Fairbanks Morse two (2) cycle, medium speed heavy-duty stationary diesel engines are highly desired.

    Basic terms of the job offer.

    • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
    • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $642.00 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
    • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
    • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
    • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday,

    will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.

    • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
    • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
    • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
    • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.
    • Project Holidays: 10 paid holidays. New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, President’s Day, Philippine Independence Day, USA Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day

    Other requirements

    • Your Passport must be valid for at least 12 months, with at least 6 total blank visa pages remaining.
    • Your driver’s license must be valid for at least 6 months (unless processing for a CDL-required position, which will require 12 months remaining).
    • Updated covid vaccination certificate
    • Medical exam report at a date to be advised.
