    The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) is fully government-owned company in Kenya's energy sector. GDC was formed in 2008 as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to accelerate the development of geothermal resources in Kenya. GDC is tasked with developing steam fields and selling geothermal steam for electricity generation to KenGen and to private investors. Geothermal steam is an environmentally friendly and abundant raw material used for generating electricity. The government and several development partners have been financing risks associated with geothermal exploration and drilling.

    Principal Geoscientist (Geophysics) - Geothermal Resource Assessment

    Job Description

    Duties and responsibilities of a Chief Geologist will entail: -

    • Developing sectional work plans
    • Managing sectional budgets
    • Reviewing surface exploration and well reports
    • Facilitating the process of identifying and ranking geothermal prospects
    • Directing the drilling crew on drilling targets
    • Planning and monitoring drilling parameters during drilling
    • Planning and monitoring well logging/fluid sampling and analysis activities/ processes.

    Person Specifications

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must have

    • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory role.
    • Master’s degree in: - Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geothermal Energy Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
    • Bachelor’s degree in: - Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Geospatial Science/Engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
    • Post Graduate Diploma in Geothermal Energy Technology or an equivalent from a recognized institution shall be an added advantage.
    • Supervisory course lasting not less than two (2) weeks.
    • Member of the Geological Society of Kenya (GSK) or any other relevant professional body.
    • Proficiency in computer applications.
    • Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
