Principal Software Developer at Britam

Job Purpose: 
Lead the development team in developing and deploying digital channel and business software solutions, including system integrations. Guide the team through the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through build, testing, deployment and support, ensuring that every solution is fit for purpose, secure and maintainable. Set and enforce the technical standards, coding practices and architectural principles the team builds against, and provide hands-on technical leadership by reviewing designs and code, unblocking complex technical problems, and mentoring developers to raise the overall engineering capability of the team. Own the technical quality and delivery reliability of the team's output, balancing speed of delivery with long-term maintainability, and act as the technical escalation point for integration, performance and production issues affecting the digital channel and business systems in scope.

Key responsibilities:

• Technical Leadership: Provide: Technical leadership across digital channel development projects, guiding the team on architecture, integration design and technology choices for web, mobile and USSD platforms, and ensuring solutions scale reliably for customer and partner usage.
• Adherence to Coding Standards: Monitor the consistency of code with established coding standards and best practices.
• SDLC: Adhere to the SDLC and ensure all development gate processes and deliverables are met.
• Solution Architecture: Provide solutions architecture and detailed system designs and ensure that all developed solutions adhere to Britam's enterprise architecture.
• Technical Skills Development: Assess the developer's commitment to improving technical skills through certifications, training, or the completion of relevant courses.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required:
Academic qualifications and certifications:

• Degree in Computer Science or a technical-related field

Experience:

• 4+ years' experience in application development, including system customization and report designs.
• 3+ years' experience managing or leading development teams.
• 4+ years working with middleware technologies e.g., Github, Azure Integration Services, WSO2.
• 4+ years' experience with RDBMS & NoSQL databases.
• 4+ years of development experience in native mobile application development.
• 4+ years' experience with SPA frameworks e.g. Angular, React, Flutter, Vue JS etc.
