    Program Officer

    Responsibilities

    • Plan and coordinate community, school and facility-based eye and ear screening and treatment
    • Coordinate patient referrals for specialized care and surgeries; ensure standards and guidelines are effectively applied
    • Plan and coordinate project implementation review meetings, including County and Sub-County Technical Working Group meetings for eye, ear and hearing care; monitoring visits; support supervision visits; project staff review meetings; and data audit a
    • Prepare payment requisitions and ensure accurate and complete documentation of all payments in accordance with donor requirements and AGC Tenwek Hospital policies and procedures
    • Take lead in the planning and coordination of all trainings that will be undertaken in the project
    • Coordinate and actively engage all stakeholders, including persons with disabilities to ensure inclusive eye ear and hearing care in VIP SU
    • Ensure VIP SU upholds beneficiary rights and safeguarding standards, particularly for children and vulnerable adults, and promptly address, document, and report any violations, discrimination, abuse, intimidation, or exploitation
    • Work closely with the M&E Officer to develop work plans and budget projections for planned project activities, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated, expenditures are monitored, and budgets are utilized effectively
    • Actively contribute to resource mobilization and participate in the development of high-quality project proposals to secure funding and sustain VIP interventions.
    • Take lead in documentation and dissemination of best practices and human-interest stories
    • Maintain and regularly update the project risk register, promptly report emerging or occurred risks to the Program Manager for appropriate escalation, and ensure agreed mitigation measures are implemented and monitored effectively
    • Ensure activity venues are accessible for all project activities
    • Ensure all activity venues are accessible, inclusive, safe, and appropriate for all project participants, including persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups
    • Contribute to research, documentation, and dissemination of project outcomes, lessons learned, and evidence, and support the preparation and presentation of findings at relevant conferences, workshops, and other professional forums.
    • Coordinate project team travel and logistics, including transport, accommodation, meeting venues and reservations, to facilitate smooth implementation of project activities.
    • Undertake any other project related assignment that maybe assigned from time to time.

    Requirements

    • Degree in Social Sciences; Public health with/or an equivalent experience in implementation of Inclusive Eye, ear and hearing care projects with at least 3 years’ experience working donor funded projects
    • Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation and presentation skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and project/data management systems.
    • Willingness and ability to work extensively in the field and travel to project implementation sites.
    • Good understanding of inclusive programming, disability inclusion, safeguarding and protection principles.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county government, donors, health facilities, community structures and implementing partners.
