    Project Officer – Regenerative Agriculture

    The International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) is providing technical services to the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) with respect to the project ‘Regenerative Agriculture through the Development of the Pulses Value Chain in Embu and Makueni Counties of Kenya’. The project seeks to address the overall problem of food insecurity while at the same time develop local capacities for the implementation of regenerative agriculture practices. The project will support the strengthening of community level extension services - the Village-based Advisors (VBAs) through whom regenerative agriculture practices will be promoted. Through an elaborate Knowledge Management & Dissemination Process, IIRR role is to ensure that the key project activities, evidence, lessons, success factors and case studies are documented and disseminated to key stakeholders and the general public to facilitate replication and scale of regenerative agriculture practices as a sustainable pathway for resilience building in Africa’s agricultural transformation.

    To support the implementation of the knowledge management and dissemination function of the regenerative agriculture project, IIRR is seeking to recruit an experienced and exceptional individual to the position of Project Officer – Regenerative Agriculture

    The position will be based in Nairobi, with frequent field travels - up to 40%

    Position Summary

    Reporting to the project coordinator, the Project Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the knowledge management and dissemination component of the project. The officer will provide technical backstopping to project partners in regenerative agriculture and in documentation of evidence-based data and information that will be used by decision-makers in both the public and private sectors for increased investments in regenerative agriculture. The officer will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the project to its full extent of ensuring project outputs are fully achieved.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities

    • Work with the Project Coordinator and IIRR’s technical resource persons to implement and manage the Knowledge Management and Dissemination component of the regenerative agriculture project
    • Support capacity strengthening of project implementing partners in knowledge management and dissemination of best practices for regenerative agriculture
    • Provide technical guidance to the project implementing partners on generating and documenting innovations, success stories, evidence and case studies on key success and failure factors in the promotion and implementation of regenerative agriculture practices.
    • Provide technical backstopping to the project implementing partners in general, on the CSA and regenerative practices in agriculture.
    • Ensure compliance to AGRA’s reporting requirements and attainment of the project milestones through effective implementation, monitoring and reporting.

    Key Qualifications & Experience

    • At least a degree in Agriculture, agriculture economics, agriculture extension or related discipline.
    • Technical expertise in regenerative, climate smart agriculture and or natural resources management in agriculture
    • At least five (5) years’ working in agriculture development. Experience working in arid and semi-arid areas and knowledge of pulses value chain is an added advantage
    • Field experience working with smallholder farmers, farmer organisations and agriculture-based SMEs in capacity building, value addition and linkages to inputs and outputs markets.
    • Demonstrable experience in project management – including practical skills in M&E
    • Excellent skills in documentation of projects’ best practices and learned lessons
    • Flexibility to take on additional responsibilities as assigned
