Protection Assistant at Danish Refugee Council

Overall purpose of the role: 

The purpose of this post is to support the Protection Officer to implement DRC Urban Program protection work with an aim of providing timely and effective protection to populations of concern including supervising the day to day implementation of protection tasks. The role is also responsible for addressing mental health needs for displacement affected population as well as being in charge of the provision of effective case management and documentation of program activities as per the donor requirements.

Responsibilities:     

• Support the Protection Officer to plan, oversee the broad implementation of protection activities in urban program. 
• Asist to map out and stay updated on the contextual situation on protection concerns for displacement affected populations so as to inform appropriate programmatic action by DRC urban program. 
• Support provision of professional and confidential protection – psychosocial services to survivors of GBV and other beneficiaries through a survivor-centered case management approach. 
• Support in design and development of sector concept notes and proposals.   
• Support implementation of protection activities that are responsive to the needs of refugee and host communities – women, girls, men & boys. 
• Provided support in protection data analysis (conflict, child and gender etc.) and maintain a reliable beneficiary database.   
• Contribute and work closely with the livelihoods, meal and advocacy/communication team/s to enhance program integration through well thought out strategies set by the project leads.  
• Support in to submit timely and high-quality activity and donor and internal progress reports that includes documentation of program milestones through case studies and human-interest stories for influencing impact at scale and contributing to fundraising.
• Provide support to protection team in project kick-off, review and project closure meetings including periodic program review and planning meetings and external meetings as often and as requested by the supervisor.
• Undertake other duties as assigned by the Protection Officer to ensure the project expectations are met.

Experience and technical competencies: 

• Minimum of 2 years work experience in implementing protection programming in an International NGO’ or other relevant agency.
• Knowledge and experience of working with urban refugees and host communities including with government agencies will be essential. 
• Experience in external stakeholder and relationship management and building coalitions.
• Good analytical, organizational and communication skills both verbal and writing, good presentation and interpersonal skills
• Creative, innovative, “thinking out of the box” mentality, solution finder. 
• Agile, self-starter with an ability to work autonomously. 
• Team player that thrive in cross-departmental cooperation. 

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or other Social Science related field.
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Swahili.
