Quality Assurance Intern at Mombo Sacco

The Opportunity

• We are looking for two people to join us as Quality Assurance Interns for three months. You will work directly with the QA Officer, getting a real look at how a QA function operates day to day— reviewing performance, monitoring task interactions, checking how member and staff requests are handled, and producing the reports that keep the organization accountable. 
• This is not a passive placement. The pathway — for those who earn it — is intern, then Assistant QA, then QA Officer. It starts here. 
• We are not looking for someone who already knows everything. We are looking for someone who pays attention, follows through, and is serious about building a career in quality assurance or operations.

What You Will Be Doing

• Your time will be split across five areas. You will start by observing and supporting, and gradually take on more independently as the months go on. The two interns will each be assigned a set of staff portfolios to review, working in parallel under the QA Officer rather than on identical tasks.

Performance Monitoring

• Every day, the QA function reviews how the team is tracking against their KPI targets. You will learn what the numbers mean, how to spot patterns, and what to flag before it becomes a bigger problem. By month three, you will be running the morning performance check yourself.

Task Interaction Review

• Staff are assigned tasks through our internal system, and each task carries a record of what was done and when. You will learn to review these interaction logs — checking whether tasks were picked up on time, actioned correctly, and closed with the right outcome recorded. When something is off, you will flag it.

Member and Staff Request Review

• Members submit requests — for loans, account changes, exits, and other services. Staff also raise internal requests, such as task corrections, data amendments, and exception approvals. You will learn to track both types from submission to resolution, checking that the right steps were followed, the right people were involved, and nothing sat without a response.

Reporting

• The QA function produces daily, weekly, and monthly reports. You will learn to draft a few of them —starting with sections and, building up to full first drafts. Clear, factual writing is one of the core skills you will develop here. At the end of month three, you will also write a short personal self-assessment covering what you learned, how far you came, and where you still want to grow.

Staff Meeting Facilitation and Follow-up

• The QA Officer chairs a weekly staff meeting with the full team. You will attend from day one, help prepare agendas and materials, and gradually take on facilitation of specific sections under the QA Officer's oversight. By month three, you will facilitate a full meeting — with the QA Officer present but letting you lead. You will also conduct follow-up check-ins with individual team members to see whether agreed actions have been taken.

How the Three Months Are Structured

Month 1 — Learn the Ground

• You spend month one understanding how everything works. You shadow the QA Officer, read the SOPs, attend all meetings, and review real interaction and request logs with guidance. By the end of month one, you should be able to explain the QA function — and why it matters — to someone walking in off the street.

Month 2 — Start Doing

• Month two is about trying things with a safety net. You draft reports, run the morning performance check, flag task and request issues before being prompted, and begin conducting follow-up check-ins independently. The QA Officer reviews your work and gives you direct feedback. You act on it.

Month 3 — Work Independently

• By month three, the QA Officer should be reviewing your work rather than correcting it. You lead the morning performance check, submit reports on time, manage your own interaction and request review tasks, and facilitate a full staff meeting under the QA Officer's oversight. At the end of the month, you write a short self-assessment on where you started and where you ended up.

Who We Are Looking For

• You do not need prior QA experience. You do need to be someone who pays attention, follows through, and takes their work seriously.

You are a good fit if you:

• Are comfortable working with numbers and reading performance data.
• Write clearly and precisely — no padding, no jargon.
• Can keep track of multiple things at once without things falling through.
• Take feedback well and act on it quickly.
• Handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Are genuinely interested in quality assurance or operations — not just looking for any placement.

It helps if you have:

• Some exposure to Sacco operations, microfinance, or financial services.
• Experience with Excel or Google Sheets.
• A background in business, finance, social sciences, or a related field.
• Experience in a coordination, monitoring, or administrative role — even informally.

Where This Can Take You

• This internship is the entry point to a defined progression: intern, then Assistant QA, then QA Officer. We built it this way because the best person to eventually run the QA function is someone who learned it from the ground up.
