    Research Assistant (Field Supervisor), IHD Office

    Job Summary

    The successful candidate will assist in implementation of the health workers mental health intervention in Nairobi, Machakos, Mombasa & Kwale.  This includes but is not limited to training and supervising intervention facilitator, data collection and management, stakeholder mapping, and coordinating all field activity logistics.  In addition, assist in other administrative tasks required to carrying out field work.

    Responsibilities

    Fieldwork Support

    •   To attend a training on the mental health intervention, data collection and activity management.
    •   Facilitate training of intervention facilitators and supervise the intervention implementation.
    •   Assist in logistical preparation for recruitment and mobilization of study participants.
    •   Assist in processing administrative clearances required to carry out field work across different regions.
    •   Facilitate invitation of study participants in collaboration with Ministry of Health, Counties, Health Facilities and Community Health Focal Persons.

    Data Management

    •   Introduce the study to the participants and seek their informed consent to participate in the study.
    •   Contribute to tool review and pre-testing of tools (survey tools, focus group discussions and key informants’ interviews).
    •   Moderate FGDs and conduct key informant interviews.
    •   Conduct data collection and ensure quality, ethics and COVID-19 safety protocols are adhered to.
    •   Document and report field experiences as per the plan through the guidance of Project Leader
    •   Transcribe qualitative data.
    •   Support with coding and charting of transcribed date in NVIVO

    Requirements

    • A Diploma or a bachelor’s degree in counselling, Psychology, Public Health, Development Studies or other allied fields.
    • Experience working with health care workers is an added advantage.
    • Proficiency in use of smart phone/table to collect data is required.
    • Familiarity with research ethics and experience taking informed consent.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work within tight schedules.
    • Prior experience in field supervision will be an added advantage.

    Relevant Experience.

    • Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in quantitative and/or mixed methods research including use of smartphones/tablets to collect data.
    • Experience in data coding and data transcription and translation is an added advantage.
    • Candidates from specific counties (Nairobi, Mombasa, Machakos, Kwale) will be preferred.
    • Strong leadership, planning and problem-solving skills.
    • Good knowledge and research data management.
    • Demonstrate knowledge in community engagement in research.
    • Excellent teamwork and coordination skills.

    Personal Characteristics

    • Can work under minimal or no supervision.
    • Highly organized.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and a good team player.
    • Keen desire to learn and share knowledge.
