    Resource Mobilisation and Outreach Specialist

    Department/office AFR, KEMC, Kenya

     

    Duration 12 months - Subject to availability of fund and satisfactory

    The Resource Mobilisation and Outreach Specialist will produce and coordinate production of concepts, campaigns, events, meetings and outreach materials using various media to (1) formulate and communicate UNEP’s value added and comparative advantages in line with the mandate and priorities of the organisation; (2) increase visibility and appreciation of the organization’s funding partners, especially those who provide core funding (Environment Fund); (3) communicate the funding requirements and other funding information in an interesting and compelling manner internally and externally.

    Under the supervision of the Head of Resource Mobilisation Section (member states), and in close collaboration with the Communication Division, the Resource Mobilisation and Outreach Specialist takes the lead in strategy, planning, development and implementation of outreach activities to support increased core and flexible funding for UNEP and incorporates the messages and themes into all relevant events and products:

    • Strengthens messaging on UNEP’s value for money (VfM), mandate and comparative advantages.
      • Formulates clear messages on UNEP’s value and comparative advantages based on guidance from senior management, and collaborates with other divisions/offices to provide supporting arguments and evidence.
      • Prepares a diverse range of outreach products in support of the VfM messaging.
      • Prepares background documents, presentations etc. for and organizes meetings of the Governing Bodies and other meetings with member states.
    • Increases visibility, recognition and appreciation of funding partners.
      • Liaises with member States (top-15 contributors to Environment Fund and member States paying their Fair Share) to identify opportunities for increased visibility and appreciation of their support to the organization.
      • Coordinates production of videos, articles, opinion editorials etc. in close collaboration with the member states and subject experts as well as ensures wide dissemination.
      • Develops and updates partner pages on the UNEP website and works with the communication division to integrate appreciation of funding partners in organisation’s flagship products and events.
      • Provides content for social media, speeches, presentations etc. for the Executive Director and other senior management
    • Informs funding partners (Member States) and colleagues of the status, challenges and successes of organisation’s income.
      • Builds and reviews content on the UNEP webpages to disseminate financial data and other income information in an interesting and attractive way.
      • Develops visual storytelling about funding (using dynamic graphs etc.).
      • Conducts surveys and evaluates their results and impact on the outreach activities.
      • Develops formal communication to member states on funding including letters, emails transmitting reports, messages in newsletters, disseminating reports etc.
      • Oversees and manages regular communication to and from member states related to the organisation’s core funding.
      • Provides relevant, accurate and timely information to colleagues on resource mobilization and funding status, including ensuring information is available on intranet and by contributing to providing training and tools on resource mobilisation to colleagues.

    •  Advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent) in journalism, communications, international relations, marketing, business administration, social sciences or a related field is required;
    • First University Degree (Bachelors or equivalent)  with a combination of relevant academic qualifications and extensive practical experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree<
