School Librarian at Still I Rise

Direct Supervisor: Head of Teaching and Learning

Contract: Two month short-term, full-time contract. 

Compensation: Dependent on Experience

We now seek an organised and enthusiastic school librarian for two months on a full-time Mon-Sat basis. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Transfer a recent arrival of 3000 books to our physical library and online registration system
• Organise and maintain the school library book collection by genre
• Catalogue and classify library materials using book IDs 
• Manage library check-in and check-out of all students
• Ensure easy accessibility of stock and efficient retrieval
• Assess the condition of old stock and material, coordinating repairs or replacements as needed to maintain the quality of collection.
• Develop practices to prevent damage and maintain quality of books
• Develop a culture of each student taking care of their books
• Coordinate interlibrary loans with Kenya National Library
• Collaborate with literacy teacher to monitor student reading time to ensure students meet their reading requirements
• Liaise with the remote team to update and consolidate the virtual database
• Other administration duties as required

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• A very strong capacity for building organised spaces, processes and habits
• Excellent communication skills and a warm and interpersonal manner
• Excellent organisational skills 
• Confidence and proficiency in ICT, including Google Suite

PREFERABLE REQUIREMENTS

• An infectious passion for reading
• Experience in early childhood language teaching
