    Senior ETL Engineer

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Sr. Architect, HIS Solutions & Interoperability, this position is responsible for the execution of DWH tasks in line with work plan and team objectives. He or she serves as the main database administrator which includes performance tuning and optimization of the DWH database tables, queries and views. In addition, this role includes the development of the DWH ETL packages and also the specific products assigned in adherence to the business and functional requirements, quality objectives and timelines set and works with a team of individuals from development, quality assurance, business analyst, and solution architects on integrated systems.

    Position Summary

    This strategic role supports the Senior Architect in the development and implementatio n of a robust and secure data warehousing and interoperability infrastructure for the KeHMIS project. He works with a team of individuals from development, quality assurance, business analysts, and solution architects to ensure success of integrated systems which include but not limited to the data warehouse (DWH), Interoperability Layer (IL), Data Warehouse API (DWAPI), DWH SSIS Packages and accompanying APIs.

    Essential Duties And Responsibilities

    • Design, implement, and continuously expand DWH data pipelines by performing extraction, transformation, and loading activities;
    • Serve as the main Database & Server Administrator;
    • Performance Tuning and optimization of the DWH databases, Queries and Views;
    • Support Architect, Data Warehouse & Systems Integration in expanding the DWH data models and tools;
    • Work with the Data Engineer to develop queries and views for ad-hoc data extraction from the DWH;
    • Enhancement and maintenance of the Patient De-Duplication and Matching in DWAPI and on DWH;
    • Utilize established development tools, guidelines and conventions to design, develop, and test the HIS solutions;
    • Developing and managing the ETL packages for the DWH that utilize open source tools.

    Required Experience

    • Extensive experience with ETL and Data Transformation tools such as Talend, Pentaho Data Integration and SSIS;
    • In-depth understanding of database management systems and scripting (SQL, NoSQL and distributed databases);
    • Extensive knowledge of data warehouse design and data modeling principles;
    • Extensive experience in system and data migration for mission critical technologies;
    • Industry experience in Linux and Windows administration for mission critical systems.

    Skills And Abilities

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience with system databases (SQL and NoSQL) at Enterprise level;
    • Experience in engaging closely with Solution Architects and Data Use teams to deliver highly available and scalable Business intelligence (BI) services with minimal/zero downtime;
    • Demonstrable experience with Application Development, Infrastructure Delivery Automation, Orchestration, Configuration Management and Testing tools;
    • Experience in driving ongoing improvements and efficiencies in operational practices, tools & processes;
    • Ability to communicate directly with peers, managers, and clients while leading development to a completed and successful solution;
    • Experience with a variety of programming and scripting languages and frameworks, including but not limited to Java, Node, SOAP (XML), REST (HTTP), Bash and Python.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • BSc. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field (such as Telecommunications or IT);
    • At least five (5) years of professional experience directly supporting the development, operations, maintenance and/or security of mission critical systems;
    • Training on Lean or Six Sigma is an added advantage.

    Note: This is local position based in Nairobi, Kenya. Thus the candidates must be able to live and work in Nairobi, Kenya.
