    Senior Instructor (Internal Medicine), Department of Medicine

    Job Summary

    AKU- Department of Medicine is seeking a Senior Instructor, Internal Medicine. The junior faculty will undertake clinical and educational functions under the supervision of the department or delegated individual within the department. The incumbent will be responsible for admitting, consulting and undertaking diagnosis and treatment of patients admitted under the general medical service in addition to seeing patients in the general medicine clinic and supervising residents assigned to the general medicine clinic rotation. They will also see patients in a defined outreach clinic within Nairobi. The junior faculty will be allowed to order tests and radiology and will consult with sub-specialists when necessary to ensure top-notch patient care.

    Responsibilities

    • Assess and manage patients
    • Attend to emergency cases
    • Educate patients on wellness prevention and early detection of risk factors for disease(s)
    • Participate in establishing various planning parameters for addressing referral cases received at AKUH,N
    • Participate in discussions with relevant members of the clinical care team to enable better integration of patient care activities
    • Collaborate with consultants and colleagues to enable integration of clinical research activities, shared knowledge, institutional quality improvement and patient wellness activities
    • Be involved in developing and renewing the syllabus for assigned teaching modules
    • Participate in clinical teaching of all staff cadres working in inpatient and outpatient services

    Requirements

    • Should have completed 3 to 4 years’ formal post-graduate medical education training in a recognized university
    • Must have Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(M.B.Ch.B) or equivalent
    • 2 years post training upon KMP&D Board recognition of specialty qualification
    • Be registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
    • Certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) & Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Demonstrate competency and dexterity with all equipment utilized in the hospital environment
    • Demonstrate honesty, integrity, compassion and respect for diversity and applies ethical principles appropriately
    • Seeks and accepts advice and adheres to deadlines
