Job Purpose

• This position is responsible for teaching and supervision of postgraduate and undergraduate students as well as undertaking research that influences theory and practice in a given field.

Job Description

The Senior Lecturer responsibilities shall include:-

• Undertaking teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels in area of specialization as allocated by the Chair of the Department;
• Developing learning materials for knowledge dissemination on a variety of platforms;
• Conducting research and producing publications or other research outputs;
• Participating and writing of research winning grant proposals to enhance university research funds;
• Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research;
• Contributing to the development, planning and implementation of quality curriculums;
• Participating in departmental and School seminars aimed at sharing research outcomes and building multi-disciplinary collaborations within and outside the department;
• Participating in the development , administration and managing of examinations in the University;
• Participating and providing technical expertise in departmental, School and University wide committees;
• Providing guidance and counselling of students;
• Involvement in community outreach activities;
• Assessing students on teaching and industrial attachment;
• Providing mentorship to both students and staff in the Department or School;
• Attending and participating in research conferences and seminars; and
• Any other duties as assigned from time to time by the Chairperson of Department.

Job Specification

Minimum requirements:-

• An earned PhD degree from a recognized University OR a Master’s Degree for those in Health Sciences, Engineering and ICT;
• At least three (3) years teaching experience as a Lecturer or Six (6) years in industry OR for Health Sciences four(4) years teaching experience at the University level as a Lecturer or eight years in industry;
• Published at least four (4) publications in credible and refereed journals since last appointment as Lecturer OR must have designed and supervised two(2) projects costing at least KES 200 Million each;
• Supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion since last appointment OR at least one(1) post graduate student to completion and two(2) in progress for those in Health Science, Engineering and ICT;
• Be registered with at least one (1) professional body where applicable;
• They should show evidence of participation in community service; and
• Must demonstrate evidence of active community outreach/engagement.
