    Senior Manager – M-Pesa Mergers and Acquisition and Seed Funding

    DESCRIPTION

    We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in Next Financial Services within Financial Services Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

    Detailed Description

    Reporting to Tribe Lead Next Financial Services, The incumbent will be primarily responsible for managing all mergers and Acquisitions and all Pre-Seed and Seed Funding protocols, systems, and governance, in order to ensure sound, efficient decision-making and reporting on the progress, outputs, and results of Seed Funded projects. Pre-Seed and Seed (hence referred to as "Seed" funding) are used to support the early stages of innovation creation and commercialization, as well as to accelerate the growth of existing M-Pesa initiatives.

    Responsibilities

    Analysis and Investment process

    • Assess the investment case for any mergers and or Acquisitions
    • For selected projects manage the due diligence process on the technology, market, customers, business model and possible future acquirers of the start-up
    • Develop a detailed written investment case with supporting documentary evidence
    • Lead the negotiation of investment terms and coordinate on preparation of legal investment documentation
    • When raising external investment, the role holder will also be responsible for preparing the investment marketing documentation including executive summaries, one-pagers and compelling investment presentations

    Project Management

    • Project manage the complete investment process ensuring all internal stakeholders (internal legal resources, internal decision makers) are clear on and supportive of the process and the specific actions
    • Responsible for managing all aspects of the pitch events and the quarterly investor advice sessions
    • Responsible for liaising with external advisors including management teams and legal advisors

    Liaison

    • Recommend potential start-ups and liaise with the selected start-ups, providing information, answering questions and arranging meetings where relevant
    • Liaise with the start-up companies after formation to monitor their progress.
    • Capture metrics associated with the startup company development such as funding received, number of employees and sales revenue, so that Imperial can assess the effectiveness of its entrepreneurial ecosystem and provide obligatory reports to management.

    Seed Fund Management

    • Establishing the mandates, processes and systems associated with Seed Fund
    • Management of the Seed Fund, where funding may be secured from different sources, requiring the management of nuanced mandates with in the same Seed Fund framework
    • Providing a secretariat function to the Seed Fund Investment Committee (IC), and managing all reporting to funders/stakeholders, including receiving reports from project leaders and/or Innovation Support managers and engaging with IC and relevant team members to ensure sound governance of the Seed Fund
    • Providing overall Seed Fund portfolio management and risk identification

    Developmental Functions

    • Raising awareness of, and providing relevant training interventions to ensure full understanding of Seed Fund process within the FS Cluster, Safaricom, and M-Pesa Africa
    • Participating in internal and external workshops, conferences etc.to broaden own skills and contribute to the innovation support profession

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree from a recognized university preferably in Business, Research, Finance or Economics
    • A Master’s degree will be an added advantage
    • Fundraising with external funders
    • Experience managing venture capital/investment fund regulatory processes
    • Must have a good understanding of the payment/financial services market.
    • Must have excellent financial and analytical skills.
    • Must demonstrate an awareness of current events and trends.
