    Trauma Nurse with Gender-Based Violence Recovery Centre

    Overview:

    The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care to survivors and patients This role requires strong clinical skills, a deep understanding of trauma-informed care, and the ability to provide sensitive, non-judgmental support to patients.

    Responsibilities:

    The nurse will be responsible for the following:

    • Trauma Care: Provide expert nursing care to trauma patients, including assessment, stabilization, and ongoing management in an emergency or trauma care setting.
    • Compile health data into the relevant information system
    • Gender-Based Violence Response: Offer specialized care to survivors of GBV, including conducting physical and psychological assessments, collecting evidence, and providing referrals to appropriate services.
    • Coordinate screening, counselling, treatment and referral linkages.
    • Provide psychological first aid PFA and psychosocial support to survivors
    • Conduct GBV awareness and trainings and outreaches at community level targeting community members
    • Patient Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for GBV survivors, ensuring their dignity, confidentiality, and rights are respected at all times.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with clinicians, social workers, mental health professionals, and law enforcement when necessary to ensure comprehensive care for trauma and GBV patients.
    • Education and Support: Provide education to patients and families on health issues including GBV.
    • Documentation: Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential patient records, particularly for cases involving legal proceedings.
    • Training and Leadership: Participate in ongoing professional development and training on trauma and GBV issues. Assist in training junior nurses and staff in trauma-informed care and GBV best practices.

    Qualifications:

    • KRCHN/BSN from a recognized school of Nursing or University
    • Current Licensure with the Nursing council of Kenya
    • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Certification in advanced life support in obstetrics ( ALSO)
    • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an acute care hospital.
    • Additional certificate on SGBV, GBV, MHPSS and clinical rape management is an asset
    • Proven experience in handling cases of gender-based violence, including training in trauma-informed care and sexual assault forensic nursing.
    • Familiarity with legal and forensic procedures related to GBV cases.
    • Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate care.
    • Ability to work in high-pressure environments with a multidisciplinary team and great leadership skills.
