It was built through Harambee effort by the local people and some generous donations from two Protestant church organizations I.C.C.O. of Netherlands and E.Z.E. of Germany. KIST admitted the first batch of 125 students, 75 male and 50 female in September 1973. Over the years KIST has diversfied in offering more than 40 courses in Diplomas, Certificates and Artisan Programs.
