    Project Data Officer

    Reports to: Data Manager

    JOB PURPOSE

    To assist in the daily running of data management systems, installation and maintenance of computer hardware, software and networks.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Conduct routine data quality/control audit controls on study generated data.
    • Perform data quality and control procedures.
    •  Compile data, clean, transcribe onto database and submit data reports to research investigators.
    • Coordination of various ancillary studies on site
    •  Preparing daily and weekly reports
    •  Installing and configuring computer hardware, software systems, networks, printers, and scanners.
    • Ensure technology is accessible and equipped with current hardware and software.
    • Trouble shoots all technology issues including hardware, software, and network operating system.
    •  Designing, improving, and updating live databases for long term data storage and back-ups.
    • Scanning and filing of records, archive systems in accordance with department procedures.
    • Provide training and orientation to new users and staff on various technologies.
    • Training staff on guidelines, policies, and procedures.
    •  Any other duties assigned by Supervisor

    Education and Professional training

    •  A holder of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related
      field(s) connected to data management studies plus years of relevant experience.
    • Professional certification in courses on analytic skills and database management.

    Competencies

    • Data management and a well rooted individual in statistical analysis skills.
    • Good communication skills- both written and oral.
    • Skills in database development.

    Experience

    • At least one (1) year experience in a data entry/data management role.
    •  Very good IT skills in hardware, software and networks management will be an added advantage.

    Terms of employment

    Employment is on a one (1) year renewable contract with a probation period for the first three (3)
    months. Salary is negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and
    demonstrated competency.

    Data Intern

    A KEMRI –CCR Clinical Trials Research Project based in Thika is currently conducting clinical trials and is
    looking for motivated individuals to fill in the following positions: Data Intern (One position) -To be based in Thika

    Purpose

    The purpose of the internship is to assist in data management including data transcription, mining, filing, archiving of records, QA/QC, database updates and generating reports.

    Responsibilities

    • Data transcription, compilation, cleaning , and processing for entry into databases
    • Updating live databases for long term data storage and back-ups
    • Preparing daily and weekly systemic reports
    • Scanning and filing of records, archive systems in accordance to department procedures
    • Basic monitoring of security and IT technology
    • Any other duties assigned by Supervisor
    • Education and Professional training
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics (preferably statistics) and computer science or a related field from a
      recognized university
    • Novice data analysis skills (STATA and or R)

    Competencies

    • Very Good IT skills including hardware, software and networks
    • Good communication skills.

    Experience

    • Experience in data entry/data management.
    • Skills in database development is an added advantage.

    Terms of Engagement:

    Appointment in the Internship program will be for six (6) months. This may be extended for another six (6) months depending on performance.

    Laboratory Analyst

    The Diagnostic and Laboratory Systems Program within the Division of Global Health Protection is seeking applications from energetic, motivated and innovative candidates to become part of the molecular section within the DSLP laboratory. The successful applicant will be in charge of all
    molecular section activities and also take lead in Next generation sequencing in the laboratory.

    No of Position: 4 position
    Reports to: Laboratory Manager
    LOCATION : Nairobi and Kisumu

    Job Specifications
    The duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

    • Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms/specimens;
    • Preparing clients for collection of specimens;
    • Receiving/collecting, labeling and registering patients specimens;
    • Preparing laboratory reagents;
    • Examining specimens;
    • Maintaining equipment and reagents;
    • Supervising the disinfection, washing and sterilization of apparatus;
    • Writing and recording results;
    • Processing the specimen according to the specified Standard Operating Procedures
      (SOP); and
    • Disinfecting, washing and sterilizing laboratory apparatus;

    Person Specification
    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-

    • At Least eight (8) years relevant work experience;
    • Diploma in any of the following fields: Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology, Biotechnology or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

    OR

    • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields;
    • Medical Laboratory Sciences Laboratory Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Technology or Biotechnology or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
    • Registration Certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) where applicable; or any other recognized regulatory body;
    •  Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists where applicable; and
    • Proficiency in computer application;
    • Demonstrated work performance and results; and
    • Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
