    Electromechanical Technician (I)

    Reporting to Operations and Maintenance Officer

    Department: Technical Department

    Job Summary: To maintenance and Repair of all Electrical works.

    Job Grade 5 (I)

    Key Tasks

    • Provide timely economic and reliable maintenance services, identify maintenance requirement and an effective planned maintenance schedule drawn up; ensure that cause of breakdown is identified and corrective action is initiated.
    • Undertake routine maintenance of all pumping equipment as per the approved schedule.
    • Report any faulty equipment and gadgets during maintenance and seek approval for those that require procurement and replacement.
    • Maintain Electro Mechanical records of all installations indicating the status date, approvals for actions, actions undertaken, reasons for any action and any prior recommendations.
    • Ensure compliance with energy providers’ regulations
    • Undertake monthly electricity meter readings to countercheck with the readings of KPLC Before billing and advice management on energy saving measures.
    • Identify and provide necessary requisite tools and equipment to enable undertake the assignment.
    • Assist in supervision and training the staff in the section.
    • Advise on the correct and standard specification for tools and equipment to be used in the section to increase efficiency in the systems.
    • Undertake monthly reports detailing all the activities undertaken in every subsequent month to enable plan and action on the recommendations.
    • Liaise with electromechanical service providers to ensure correct specification of for procurement of items, inspect electromechanical works to ensure quality of service and increased efficiency in the systems.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned.

    Requirements for Appointment

    Laboratory Analyst

    Reporting To: Water Quality Assurance Officer
    Department: Technical Department
    Job summary: Perform water quality analysis tests in the company
    Job Grade 5 (I)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Carrying out research and analysis using a wide variety of techniques, software and equipment.
    • Analysing and interpreting data in an organized manna.
    • Ensure data is recorded accurately and as per the demands of the prescribed guidelines
    • Using a range of software, technique and equipment to carry out research and analysis
    • Reporting and presenting results.
    • Writing research papers, reports, reviews and summaries.
    • Keeping up to date with scientific and technical developments.
    • Ensuring that health and safety standards are adhered to
    • Preparing product license documents and research/scientific staff.
    • Developing new analytical methods.
    • Take samples from residential plumbing and municipal distribution systems for lead analysis.
    • Perform PH testing.
    • Develop solutions to water quality problems.
    • Conduct laboratory tests of water samples for chemical or microbiological parameters
    • Assess the quality of taste and clarity of drinking water.
    • Visit sites that may be causing pollution or contamination.

    Requirements for Appointment

    For direct appointment to this grade a candidate must have a BSc in analytical chemistry or Industrial Chemistry with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Reliability and repeatability of Quality Control test results for raw materials, pyrethrum flowers, finished products and packaging materials.
    • Identification and management of sampling points along the process
    • Traceability of results to duplicate samples retained.

    Water Technician

    No of Positions: 4

    Reporting to: Production and Distribution Supervisor (II)
    Department: Technical Department
    Job Summary: To supervision of water production and distribution in the Company.
    Job Grade 5 (II)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist in the preparation of work plans and budgets. Identify items commonly used for Operations & Maintenance and advice management accordingly, while ensuring the availability of operation and maintenance/ construction water supplies equipment, stores and services.
    • Supervise Monitor and Evaluate Operation and Maintenance activities within the water supply unit.
    • Preparation and implementation of minor water works construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure
    • Identification of service needs and preparation of proposals to Water Services Trust Fund for funding.
    • Undertake physical inspection of operational water works fixtures and establishing existing performance.
    • Identify and define appropriate performance indicators/ targets to be used for monitoring performance of each personnel assigned under you.
    • Determine and design desirable, achievable and sustainable goals for each of the performance indicators.
    • Ensure compliance with established reporting procedures.
    • Collect operations and maintenance data on weekly and monthly basis, identifying current problems/ constrains of service performance and institute corrective action.
    • On a quarterly basis, identify and assess achievement/ shortfall of individual staff and facility based on negotiated and set performance targets, while identifying constrains/ obstacles that hinder attainment of performance targets.
    • Propose and execute modifications to strategies and procedures to overcome the identified constrains/ obstacles while identifying capacity building needs for personnel deployed under you.
    • Supervise, train and develop all junior staff working under them as well as allocation of duties and distribution of staff.
    • Assist in the administration of contracts, including checking on the estimate costs of new water works, assisting in checking the adherence to specifications and standards while ensuring that the project is progressing on schedule.
    • Display ability in resource control, interpretation of bills of quantities and knowledge of regulation relating to water services.
    • Undertake effective inspection on all meters installed at consumption points to ensure that all meters are in conformity with policies and the guidelines of the Company on distance from premises boundary and relation to ground level.
    • To deliberately investigate, inspect to ensure that all service lines within a respective premise are after the meter assembly and thus registering all consumptions and applying corrective measures where breach has been identified.
    • To develop and institute a scheduled and effective meter testing regime targeting to test all consumer, zonal and production meters to establish efficacy and execute replacement of faulty meters.

    Requirements for Appointment

    For direct appointment to this grade a candidate must have a Diploma in Civil or Water Engineering with 2 years’ experience

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

    Water Operator/Line Patroller

    No of Position: 3

    Reporting To: Production and Distribution Supervisor
    Department: Technical Department
    Job summary: Repair and Maintenance of Water Distribution Line
    Job Grade 7 (I)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Ensure all pumping sets are attended to.
    • Ensure daily update of plant operation registers.
    • Ensure recording and reporting on daily productions.
    • servicing and maintenance of production and zonal meters
    • Ensure cleanliness of the pump and control panel house.
    • Ensure equitable distribution of water as per rationing schedule.
    • Undertake intense line patrols identify and promptly report all burst, leakages and all section not receiving water due to blockage or otherwise to the non-revenue team and undertake repairs and restoration of supply in pipe diameters of 20mm and 32mm.
    • Curb continued water losses through tank overflow, burst and leakages by immediate isolation of the sections.
    • Identify and report to the non -revenue team all exposed pipe section within the distribution networks.
    • Routine inspections and maintenance of all electro mechanical installations.
    • Any other duty given by the immediate supervisor.
    • Produce written daily work reports.

    Requirements for Appointment

    For direct appointment to this grade a candidate must have a KCSE D+ or KCE Division I Certificate in Water Engineering or Plumbing with a minimum 2 years’ Experience. Knowledge of: Principles and practices of water distribution maintenance and repair. Basic principles of water treatment. Common tools, materials, and motorized vehicles and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of a water distribution system. Pumps, valves and backflow devices. Basic mathematical principles. Safe work practices and policies.

    Operations and Maintenance Officer

     Job Description

    Reporting To: Technical Services Manager
    Department: Technical Department
    Job summary: Set standards of performance for the various operations in the Company
    Job Grade 4

    Key Tasks

    • Operations and Maintenance section of the company and monitor their achievement.
    • Ensure review meetings and on the job training to motivate staff to perform in accordance with the standards of safety competence laid down by the company are carried out.
    • Review the designs of minor water supply extensions.
    • Supervise all staff in the Production and Distribution Section.
    • Ensure all the assets and equipment are safeguarded.
    • Carry out research on the latest technologies in water supply industry
    • Ensure maintenance schedules for the section are in place.
    • Review budget proposals and control costs and expenditure
    • Ensure that quality water is produced and distributed to customers in the right quantity and on time.
    • Ensure timely response to customer complaints.
    • Supervise construction of new plants structures and/or repairs thereof and provide the necessary engineering expertise.
    • Ensure the water dams and reservoirs are well kept and maintained.
    • Ensure staff appraisals are done in a bid to develop staff to ensure that they have appropriate skills for the work.
    • Set standards of performance for the various operations in the Water Treatment and Distribution section and monitor their achievement.
    • Liaise with WRUA’s and other stakeholders in catchments conservation activities.
    • Prepare periodic technical reports of the Section.
    • Ensure sufficient and useful technical data and information is maintained in the section.
    • Perform any another duty as may be assigned.

    Requirements for Appointment

    • For direct appointment to this grade a candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in (Civil/Water Engineering) with a minimum of 2 years’ experience. Knowledge of:
    • Must have excellent understanding of the Kenyan water sector reforms;
    • Computer literacy a must, including use of relevant engineering software.
    • Knowledge of GIS system will be an added advantage.
    • Experience in management of technical projects

    Information Technology Officer (II)

    Report to: ICT Officer

    Job summary: To provide technical guidance and advice on systems utilization and ensure the safety, security and control of computer systems information and data.
    Job Grade 5(I)

    Key Tasks

    • Deputize the ICT Manager as needed.
    • Take on new areas of responsibility in consultation with ICT Officer and Head of ICT as they may develop.
    • Troubleshoot Internet, network and WiFi related issues as and when they occur.

    • Command of MacOS, iOS and iPad OS configuration.
    • Hardware troubleshooting skills
    • Good command of networking including VLANS, WiFi systems, structured cabling, cable termination.
    • Good understanding of Microsoft Office suite.

    Job summary: To ensure efficient procurement and distribution and distribution of stores, disposal of unserviceable and or obsolete stores.
    Job Grade 6 (I)

    Key Tasks

    • Assisting the Procurement Officer in running the Procurement office and handling all procurement roles of the company.

    • For direct appointment to this grade a candidate must have a Diploma in Supplies Management with a minimum of 2 years’ experience Professional Qualifications:
    • Must be a member of a recognized professional procurement body (KISM)
    • Must be a licensed practitioner
    • Knowledge of contract law is an added advantage.

    • Knowledge of Public Procurement and Disposal Act
