    Human Resource Officer

    Overview

    • ICRISAT wishes to recruit a ICRISAT seeks applications from dynamic Kenyan Nationals for the Human Resource Officer for the Institute’s operations in East and Southern Africa. This position will be based at ICRISAT, Nairobi, Kenya. The incumbent will report to the Manager – Human Resources with administrative reporting to the Country Representative. Through this position ICRISAT's national workforce is supported in all aspects of the Workforce Lifecycle, recruitment, selection, remuneration, rewards & recognition, on-boarding, performance management, workforce relations, learning & development, deployment, and separation). The position will be responsible for frontline interface between Workforce Members, Leadership and functional HR specialists in the region.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Provide HR professional advisory support for all stages of workforce life cycle in consultation with Manager – Human Resources.
    • Provide advisory role to workforce members and managers on workforce management, on-boarding, policy interpretation, learning and development, advancement and recognition and other day-to-day HR-related issues.
    • Anchor a robust & seamless recruitment and selection process as defined in the Institute policies and Recruitment SOP
    • Ensure Quality-of-hire as per Institutional standards, for each vacancy filled through the recruitment process
    • Administer various workforce life cycle-related transactions including Contract Renewals, Probation Confirmation, Performance Appraisals, Disciplinary cases, Separations and Exits ensuring global consistency in consultation with the Program Director.
    • Organize multiple channels of workforce connect and utilize available channels Internal Communication.
    • Closely work with new joiner, throughout their probation period and administer early contract modalities (probation) process.
    • Organize and serve on various HR and Regional level committees and take the lead on facilitating key corporate HR related events.
    • Ensuring Service Level Agreements are met while delivering operational responsibilities
    • Vendor Management of relevant HR initiatives (Specialist area) -
    • Working closely with Manager - HR in designing and executing organization level HR initiatives

    Education, knowledge and experience

    • Post Graduate Degree /Master’s in Human Resources
    • Experience of at least 5 years in a Business HR or HR Generalist role.

    Temporary Administrative Assistant- Maternity Cover

    Overview

    • The purpose of this job is to assist IRD representative, staff and partners in their administrative, management and accounting activities under the authority of IRD East Africa Representative.

    Duties and responsibilities
    Administration

    • Assist in planning, organizing, coordinating internal and external representation activities.
    • Receive, screen and follow-up on representation correspondences and provides background information.
    • Update IRD Data bases (missions, partners, students)
    • Ensure adequate filing system (hard and electronic) and archive of institutional documents (contracts, MoU)
    • Write documents, letters, minutes and notes and distribute to the concerned parties.
    • Coordinate the use and the maintenance of office equipment and vehicles.
    • Follow up on procedures.

     Human Resources 

    • Input documents to the shared folder/space,
    • Assist IRD staff in implementing their mission in East Africa (Visas, research permits)
    • Follow-up on leaves and absences of local staff.
    • Draft leave decisions for expatriate and local permanent staff.

     Management and accounting. 

    • Collect adequate accounting documents for travel reimbursement, in relation with the accounting office.
    • Organize procurement for IRD in relation with ICRAF services and/or direct suppliers.
    • Organize accommodation, air tickets, local transport, banking and any other requirements of IRD international staff and partners.

    Education, knowledge and experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, project management or Finance/Accounting/Economics or related field.
    • 3 years’ experience in general administration.
    • NGO experience is a must.
    • CPA is an added advantage.

    Resource Mobilization Coordinator

    Overview

    • Resource Mobilization Coordinators contribute to CIFOR-ICRAF’s resource mobilization goal to achieve significant, predictable, multi-year funding to enable, flexible support for CIFOR-ICRAF Key Performance Areas (KPAs). To do so, Coordinators ensure CIFOR-ICRAF staff benefit from tailored funder profiles and contacts, analyzed funding opportunities (Call for Proposals (RfPs)), standardized RM processes, tools and more strategic, coordinated, efficient and high-quality support for compelling solicited and unsolicited submissions. The Resource Mobilization Coordinator – Francophone Africa will be a global position with Francophone Africa as its primary focus.
    • Primary objectives for this position include: review of identified funding opportunities; coordinate and support the development of strategic grant applications, timely review and submission of grant applications; facilitate donor intelligence and assurance of strategic alignment of CIFOR-ICRAF’s objectives with funder priorities and objectives; assist and support outreach and stewardship of major global donors and prospects; and contribute to standardized processes, tools and resources for unsolicited fundraising.

    Duties and responsibilities
    Proposal/ Program Development and Coordination

    • Coordinate the research and verification of new funding opportunities for relevant global campaigns and/or initiatives
    • Support global Research teams in all stages of pre-award functions (concept note/proposal development, planning, drafting, editing, internal clearance and submission of high value solicitation documents) and efficient transfer of approved awards to Programme/Grant Management

     Strategy, Analysis and Reporting

    • Maintain efficient knowledge sharing and information system and manage donor intelligence to enable successful funding approaches and institutional understanding of CIFOR-ICRAF’s resource development activities
    • Support the RM team leader on reporting progress in key areas of the funding strategy and preparation of briefing materials for donor presentations and/or meetings

     Support unsolicited fundraising processes and practices

    • Coordinate with the RM Team and other corporate units on donor stewardship, communications and cultivation of major global donors and prospects
    • Provide critical feedback for the development of a standardized process (RM Strategy) for program development linked to CIFOR- ICRAF Key Performance Areas (KPAs) support the development and submission of high quality programs and coordinated planning
    • Work with the RM team on the development of guidance notes, standard operating procedures, tools, templates, best practices, lessons learned, and ensure consistent use of required tools by scientists
    • Support the development of Funder Profiles in an online system
    • Work with the team on enhancing tools and processes that support “go/ no go” decisions and the monitoring of progress with unsolicited progress support management decisions in relation to unsolicited fundraising

    Education, knowledge and experience

    • Master’s degree in International Relations, Conservation/Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Development or a related degree (an undergraduate degree with 5 years’ relevant work experience will be considered);
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in resource mobilization with proven track record of raising substantial funds for international organizations, UN agencies, and/or international non-governmental organizations – preferably in francophone Africa;
    • Ability to link sectors and maximize resource mobilization capacity with donors and other development partners;
    • Knowledge of national/global development agendas and goals;
    • Understanding of project cycle management;
    • Experience in working with diverse teams;
    • Above average written and presentation skills;
    • Experience with fundraising databases;
    • Fluency in English and French mandatory (Spanish desirable).

    News Editor/Content Manager Consultant

    Overview

    • This full-time consultancy is an opportunity for a skilled, energetic and creative science journalist/editor to run and shape established, respected online news sites under the guidance of the Head of Global Outreach and Engagement.
    • CIFOR-ICRAF's news sites are key elements of the organisation’s communications strategy, reaching thousands of people weekly and reporting new research findings, on-the-ground projects and analysis in language accessible to a broad readership, while maintaining scientific accuracy and journalistic styles and principles. Articles are written by consultant science writers working remotely, by partners the world. Most are also translated into French, Spanish, Bahasa Indonesia and other languages.
    • CIFOR-ICRAF's news sites are both crucial resources for researchers, academics, policymakers, students, the general public and journalists. Key to its success are the quality and accessibility of the writing, the strong scientific base, the volume of stories published and the production of special features.
    • The News Editor/Content Manager will support CIFOR-ICRAF’s news sites’ ongoing success through their experience in science journalism, flair for writing catchy headlines and compelling leads, ability to spot and fix story flaws, genuine interest in science, environment and development, and a whole lot of energy and spirit.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • The News Editor/Content Manager will oversee the day-to-day running of CIFOR-ICRAF's news sites and develop content for the organisation’s digital channels and direct the production of multimedia content. From reporting, researching and writing, to commissioning, copyediting, content packaging and disseminating, this role will oversee a range of materials including news stories, feature articles, op-eds, speeches, factsheets, briefs and infographics, and will be used to raise awareness about global issues that CIFOR-ICRAF research addresses, as well as the organisation’s activities and will be used to promote the organisation’s work.
    • Manage all facets of day-to-day publication, including but not limited to building a content calendar, commissioning articles and liaising with writers, scientists and stakeholders
    • Interview, research and write engaging, scientifically accurate content, including blogs, briefs, press releases, news items and leaflets
    • Develop content for CIFOR-ICRAF websites
    • Assist with newsletter production
    • Source photos, fact-check content and copyedit
    • Recruit and cultivate a roster of talented, diverse writers
    • Develop strategies for coverage of different kinds of events and news coverage
    • Develop relationships with partner organisations and stay abreast of latest trends and research 
    • Plan conference coverage, theme-based coverage, news coverage
    • Develop monthly in-depth features highlighting key aspects of CIFOR-ICRAF’s work
    • Coordinate with social media team to support outreach via Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and other platforms
    • Liaise with production team to produce graphic art images and infographics for stories or social media
    • Increase global profile and reach of CIFOR-ICRAF news sites
    • Post stories on website, update carousel and troubleshoot technical issues

    Education, knowledge and experience

    • The ideal candidate would have an undergraduate degree in journalism or a related field, a master's in a subject other than communication (or a combination thereof) and at least five years of print journalism experience
    • Fluency in English (flawless idiomatic written English). Other major languages, especially French and Spanish, an asset
    • Experience in working for a research organisation or within the development sector is desirable
