    Entitlement Officer - Clinical, Debtors Department

    Key Responsibilities:

    • To offer prompt and satisfactory services to internal and external clients as per the established policies and procedures of the department to enable overall accomplishment of the departmental goals
    • Participate in ensuring that all the billing points are updated on new / closed accounts, corporate clients’ administration guidelines on timely basis and they adhere to the same
    • Opening/closing of accounts as advised by relevant corporate clients and in line with the hospital guidelines on the same
    • Assisting in monitoring invoice returns and taking appropriate action on clinical queries as per the set deadline
    • To assist in organizing and holding meetings with corporate clients to discuss status of their accounts regarding entitlements, exclusions and returned invoices and overall clinical reconciliation sign off
    • Participate in Continuous Entitlements Education (CEE) for Clinical and non -clinical areas for excellent service delivery
    • Assist in the coordination of renewal of corporate agreements and fulfillment of terms of the administration rules and guidelines from corporate clients
    • Maintenance of timely and accurate departmental reports e.g., accounts opened/closed, rejection rate, individual corporate performance, copay schedules, CME meeting minutes
    • Participate in preparation of all Institution and Financial audits to enable the Department to achieve its quality objectives
    • Report any incidents regarding corporate credit management to the Supervisor
    • Assist in the maintenance and monitoring of Master Register of Corporate accounts from inception to expiry timelines in order to hedge against provision of services to expired accounts.
    • Continuous monitoring of hospital and outreach billing to ensure all claims comply with corporate requirement including but not limited to ensuring e-diagnosis is captured.

     Qualifications and skills required:

    • Diploma in Nursing, Pharmacy, or a related clinical field.
    • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with mean grade C or its equivalent
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite
    • Formal training in customer care or equivalent demonstrated experience.
    • A minimum of 1 (one) year experience in a busy claim vetting and assessment department
    • A minimum of 1 (one) year exposure in clinical practice.
    • A minimum of 3 (three) years’ experience in a busy accounting/credit management department
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Good interpersonal skills: Ability to build relationships among team members
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet stringent deadlines.

    Clinical Psychologist - Cancer Centre, Department of Haematology and Oncology

    Job Summary

    • The Cancer Centre is seeking a licensed Clinical Psychologist, in Psychosocial Oncology (PSO). This position contributes by ensuring lead and coordination of the Cancer Centre Programs in the area of cancer mental health.

    Responsibilities

    • Implementation of Distress Assessment & Response Tool (DART) – a PSO program dedicated to the psychological, social, behavioral, and ethical aspects of cancer care on all newly diagnosed cancer patients at AKUHN in partnership with Princess Margaret Cancer Center, Toronto, Canada;
    • Conduct Cancer associated mental health research and other aspects of the bidirectional connections between mental health and cancer;
    • Participate in collaborative research between the Cancer Center and the Brain & Mind Institute around brain health and cancer;
    • Implement and sustain cancer support groups at AKUHN;
    • Establish psychosocial oncology counseling at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi; and
    • Develop and execute training courses/programmed based on needs assessments related to cancer-metal health.

     Requirements

    • Master’s degree in mental health psychology or related field
    • Licensed Psychologist in Kenya
    • At least four (4) years’ experience as a practicing clinical psychologist, preferably in a hospital setting
    • Certification in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructor 
    • Certification in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Addiction Therapy
    • Involved with patient-oriented research (specifically in mental health)
    • Proficiency in MS office, learning management platforms; instructional design and e-learning 
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal communication
    • Demonstrates supervisory skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment

    Full time Faculty and Lead, Bone Marrow Transplant Program, Department of Haematology\/ Oncology

    Job Summary

    • The Department of Haemato-Oncology is seeking a Lead Physician for the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program will provide clinical, administrative, and strategic leadership for the establishment, development, and operation of the BMT service. Reporting to the Chair, Department of Haemato-Oncology, the incumbent will oversee all aspects of patient care, program quality, and research, while fostering a multidisciplinary approach to achieve excellence in patient outcomes, education, and innovation.

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as the primary medical lead for all autologous and allogeneic BMT procedures, including haploidentical and matched unrelated donor transplants.
    • Provide direct patient care across the transplant continuum: evaluation, conditioning, infusion, post-transplant follow-up, and survivorship.
    • Ensure compliance with international (e.g., EBMT, CIBMTR, FACT/JACIE) and national standards for transplant care.
    • Lead daily multidisciplinary BMT rounds and coordinate care among physicians, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory staff, and allied health professionals.
    • Develop and oversee patient selection criteria and clinical protocols for transplant candidacy.
    • Lead the strategic planning and phased implementation of the BMT unit, including infrastructure, staffing, and process workflows.
    • Establish and maintain policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and clinical pathways.
    • Develop relationships with referring physicians and regional partners to grow the referral base.
    • Participate in budget planning, cost optimization, and resource allocation for sustainable program growth.
    • Implement quality management systems and lead efforts to achieve and maintain accreditation (FACT/JACIE or equivalent).
    • Monitor program outcomes, morbidity/mortality data, and benchmarking against international standards.
    • Chair or actively participate in the BMT Quality Committee and Morbidity & Mortality reviews.
    • Promote and participate in clinical trials, translational research, and data registry contributions.
    • Collaborate with molecular diagnostics, immunology, and hematopathology teams for precision medicine approaches.
    • Encourage investigator-initiated studies and secure external funding for research activities.
    • Supervise and mentor BMT fellows, residents, medical students, and allied health trainees.
    • Develop continuing medical education (CME) activities for staff and physicians.
    • Represent the BMT program at local, regional, and international scientific meetings.

     Requirements

    • MD or equivalent degree with board certification in Hematology/Oncology with subspecialty training in hematology and bone marrow transplantation.
    • Formal fellowship training in Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplantation.
    • Minimum 5 years of post-fellowship BMT clinical experience. 
    • Demonstrated leadership in a multidisciplinary clinical setting.
    • Strong track record in clinical research and publications.
    • Board certification in Hematology/Oncology (with subspecialty training in BMT).
    • Demonstrated experience performing autologous and allogeneic transplants (including haploidentical and MUD).
    • Track record of leading multidisciplinary rounds and coordinating patient care.
    • Familiarity with international transplant standards (FACT, JACIE, EBMT, CIBMTR).

    Clinical Nurse, PZP

    Responsibilities:

    • Complete head to toe assessment and re-assessment of patients to identify their care needs
    • Develop written care plans based on patients’ needs, monitor and evaluate effectiveness of interventions
    • Carry out hemodynamic monitoring to include vital signs, neurological and fluid status; labs and radiological evaluations
    • Document all assessment data, investigation results, care given, discussions with the multidisciplinary team, family/patient interactions in an accurate, comprehensive and timely manner
    • Administer medication safely, monitor patient responses to medication and promptly report adverse reactions.
    • Assess and monitor patients who are receiving chemotherapy with the assistance of a chemotherapy nurse.
    • Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely in accordance with Aga Khan University Hospital Guidelines on waste management
    • Assist patients with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing and dressing
    • Prepare for and assist physicians to perform various procedures such as Lumbar Puncture and insertion of invasive lines
    • Carry out pre and post-operative care for the surgical patient

    • Maintain adequate airway management to include oxygen therapy, nebulization and suctioning
    • Prepare patients for various investigations including lab and radiological imaging.
    • Collect specimens such as sputum, stool, urine and ensure correct labeling of specimen bottles
    • Perform pain assessment and initiate analgesia as per protocol
    • Promptly report both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidences to the nurse manager, team leader or physician
    • Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching 
    • Be able to commence enteral feeds as prescribed, assess absorption and elimination, and give feedback as appropriate
    • Be able to recognize a patient in a pre- arrest or arrest states, and to initiate Basic Life Support
    • Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies.
    • Participate in quality initiatives including clinical care program certification (CCPC)
    • Be accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of ward stock drugs and consumables
    • Care for equipment through cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow up of nonfunctional equipment to the nurse manager
    • Follow discharge procedure of assigned patients according to hospital protocol, and ensure follow up appointments are made
    • Assist in orientation of new nurses and mentoring of junior nursing staff and students
    • Provide leadership for the team and manage the unit in a given shift
    • Participate in unit based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, audits, spot checks and skill checks
    • Be able to care for the psychiatry patient as per policy on Psychiatry Care.
    • Can be assigned to assist in any other Medical- Surgical Unit

    Requirements:

    • RN from a recognized school of nursing or University
    • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Demonstrate evidence based knowledge of current practices in Medical-Surgical nursing

    ICT Technician

    Job Purpose

    Ensure that the End user Issues are timely attended to, efficiently resolved, escalated and closed with a main objective of,

    • Reduced downtime, efficient and smooth use of ICT resources to enhance quality and timely patients and staff experience.
    • Ensuring all ICT equipment is working properly.
    • Reducing or eliminating ICT security breaches.

    Key responsibilities

    • Ensure that the end user’s requests and incidents assigned are efficiently resolved, (or escalated) and closed within defined SLA, by providing requisite ICT support to on campus and off campus staffs, faculty, students, patients and AKU Guests
    • Provide Tier 2 support for IT systems in use by AKU users and ensure that services provided to customers / users is the highest possible within the resources available.
    • Provide general and complex technical audio-visual support to Staff and Faculty.
    • Provide timely communication on tickets status and resolution, maintaining ticket updates for all reported incidents
    • Training and orienting staff on the use of hardware devices and software tools.
    • Troubleshoot system and network problems diagnosing and solving both hardware and software faults.
    • Configure, deploy, troubleshot, repair, and maintain end-user equipment and accessories, set up, and supported audio /visual equipment for presentations and other meetings
    • Setting up, configuring, testing and issuing IT equipment for the new units such as new outreach clinics or departments,
    • Facilitate movement if end user equipment during relocation.
    • Install, configure and update various software used by the organization.
    • Maintenance of the ICT asset register by ensuring all staff sign asset inventory form and replacement sheets when being assigned to .
    • Documentation of all issues reported at the ICT Helpdesk and the resolution.
    • Perform the general preventive maintenance on all computers, printers, laptops, Scanners UPS and IT peripherals.
    • Assist in Identifying obsolete devices such as Desktops, Laptops ETC to enable
    • Perform replacement and repair of any faulty PCs, printer or laptop or IT peripheral.
    • Testing and evaluating new technology.
    • Training and orienting staff on use of the new technologies and its applications.
    • Perform software and hardware upgrades.
    • Ensure conformity to ISO (9001/2015 and 27001/2013) and data security requirements.
    • Ensuring that the AKU ICT equipment’s are neat, cables are properly arranged.
    • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor or the manager

    Qualifications, Experience and Skills required:

    • Diploma in Information Technology/Information Communication & Technology
    • Added Advantages: Bachelor’s degree in information communication & technology MCSE/A, CISCO (CCNA), N+, A+

    Relevant Experience

    • Minimum of 1-year experience in ICT Support in a busy institution or 2 years’ experience in IT related field.
    • Strong IT hardware troubleshooting Skills
    • Strong in knowledge in Microsoft windows operating system and applications support skills
    • Strong knowledge in MAC OS and applications support skills
