    Deputy Principal - (Academic & Student Affairs)

    For appointment to this position, a candidate must:

    • be a Kenyan Citizen;
    • be at least an Associate Professor and holder of an earned PhD from a reputable university recognized in Kenya;
    • have had at least eight (8) years academic and research experience with scholarly record demonstrated by publications in internationally peer reviewed journals in their areas of specialization and supervision of Masters and Doctoral students;
    • have served successfully in a management position at the level of a Chairperson of Department and Dean/Director for an accumulative period of at least 6 years.
    • have demonstrated ability and leadership skills to effectively coordinate academic, student, research and outreach functions in a University environment;
    • have an excellent understanding of the current trends in university education,
    • training and research nationally and globally;
    • demonstrated ability to attract grants and resources for scholarship, research and development;
    • be a team player with excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and have a capacity to work effectively with students and stakeholders;
    • show good understanding of university functions and procedures coupled with a passion for the promotion of learning, excellence in teaching, research and innovation;
    • have good understanding of the national policies and strategies governing university education training in Kenya;
    • be a registered member of professional association/s, where applicable, and of good standing; and satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Reporting to the Principal, the deputy Principal (Academic and Student Affairs) will oversee the Academic and Student Affairs of the University/College. Specific duties and responsibilities include;

    • establishing and maintaining workable systems for regular measurements,
    • monitoring and evaluation of performance, quality, relevance and efficiency in teaching, research and student centered development programmes.
    • coordinating the development of academic policies of the University College in consultation with the Academic board and the senate;
    • directing and coordinating academic programmes of the University College; coordinating and managing student affairs;
    • coordinating and managing examinations and the preparation of academic transcripts, certificates, diplomas and degrees.
    • developing research agenda with clear guidelines on research alliances and partnerships nationally and globally;
    • developing and implementing strategies to facilitate growth in revenue to support research and innovation;
    • providing strategic direction, leadership and management of the Centres and institutes that comprise the research and innovation portfolio;
    • overseeing the protection and commercialization of innovations;
    • establishing linkages with industry and business through local, national and international networks to leverage research outcomes and opportunities

    Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Strategy)

    For appointment to this position, a candidate must:-

    • be at least an Associate Professor or equivalent in a university recognized in Kenya;
    • be a holder of an earned PhD from a recognized University;
    • have at least eight (8) years progressive experience in senior leadership/management positions in the University or in other comparable leadership levels at research and academic institutions;
    • demonstrate thorough understanding of Kenya’s governance and business processes for the enrichment of the university’s ability to contribute to national development and achievement of vision 2030;
    • have demonstrated management capacity including knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act No. 18 of 2012, the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act No. 33 of 2015 and Strategic People Management;
    • have a demonstrable experience in transformative and strategic leadership and evidence of attendance of leadership trainings in higher education;
    • have excellent understanding of major trends in national and international education and training and broad awareness of the major factors influencing the development of university education in Kenya;
    • have supervised and mentored students at Masters and PhD degree programs in addition to being an accomplished scholar with a proven track record;
    • have proven ability to coordinate and network with development partners in mobilizing resources to enhance resource base of the university for sustainable growth and development;
    • be a registered member of professional association/s in his/her profession (where applicable) and be of good standing; and fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    The Deputy Vice – Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Strategy) shall report to the Vice Chancellor. His/her duties and responsibilities will include:-

    • heading and directing the administration, Finance and Strategy Division through
    • provision of sound strategic direction and transformative leadership in order to achieve the institution’s goals and objectives;
    • providing innovative and creative leadership in the area of planning, administration, human resource management, financial planning to enhance improved performance;
    • overseeing the implementation of all procurement, fiscal, human resources, administrative policies and appropriate procedures to ensure efficient performance and delivery of services in the university in line with the strategic plan;
    • coordinating the preparation and implementation of the university budget and preparation of financial statements and reports for presentation to the university management;
    • coordinating the design, implementation, maintenance and development of appropriate human resources policies, procedures and systems that attract, develop and retain competent human resources;
    • leading the implementation of administrative, financial and planning programs in consultation with the Vice Chancellor in accordance with prescribed statutes,
    • strategic plan and regulations;
    • overseeing the implementation of the council decisions and resolutions including
    • those related to fund raising and resource mobilization for general development of the university;
    • acting as a liaison to represent the university nationally and internationally in delegated roles from the Vice Chancellor;
    • serving as a chair of various committees in the university; and controlling and managing the university budgets, expenditure and wage bill in close

    Vice Chancellor - 1 Post

    For appointment to this position, a candidate must:

    • be a Kenyan Citizen;
    • be a Full Professor with an earned PhD from a recognized University;
    • have at least 10 years of academic and research experience at senior level with demonstrable leadership in an academic and/or research institution, having served substantively with demonstrable results in the position of a Deputy ViceChancellor of a University, a Principal of a Constituent College or in any other comparable and leadership levels at research and academic institutions;
    • demonstrate knowledge in structural, legislative and regulatory framework for managing a university;
    • demonstrate proven knowledge and experience in the application of ICTs in teaching and learning in a university;
    • have an understanding of the national policies and strategies governing University financing, education and training in Kenya;
    • demonstrate an understanding of Strategic Planning and Performance Management;
    • have supervised and mentored students in Masters and PhD Degree programmes in addition to being an accomplished scholar with proven track record in continuing research and publications on pertinent contemporary issues;
    • possess a proven track record of continuing research and publications in peer reviewed journals, monographs, book chapters and books;
    • have demonstrable experience in networking and fundraising;
    • have demonstrable experience in transformative and strategic leadership;
    • demonstrate an understanding of the factors and conditions shaping the development of Higher Education in Kenya;
    • have a good understanding of the National Policies and Strategies governing University financing, publication and training in Kenya;
    • have an excellent understanding of the current trends in the Higher Education and training in Kenya and globally and the legal requirements governing University Education;
    • be a registered member of professional association/s in his/her profession, where applicable, and be of good standing;
    • demonstrate management capacity including knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act No. 18 of 2012, the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act No.33 of 2015 and Strategic Management of Human Resources; demonstrate an understanding of Government's Development Plans, Vision 2030 and relevant legislations guiding Higher Education in Kenya; and demonstrate an understanding of Leadership and Integrity as well as compliance with the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya

    The Vice-Chancellor shall report to the University Council. His/her duties and responsibilities will include:-

    • being the Accounting and Chief Executive Officer of the university;
    • being the academic and administrative head of the university;
    • being responsible to the Council for maintaining and promoting the academic image of the university;
    • oversee the implementation of policies, strategies and programmes of the university;
    • implementing Council decisions and resolutions;
    • providing strategic innovative and creative direction and leadership to the university by competitively positioning and representing the university nationally, regionally and internationally;
    • organizing and administering programmes of the university;
    • facilitating and maintaining cooperation with government institutions,
    • regulatory agencies, local and international institutions of higher learning and other stakeholders;
    • providing leadership in Open, Distance and eLearning mode of study;
    • directing, organizing and the administration of programmes of the university;
    • undertaking public relations, fund-raising and general development of the university;
    • chairing the Senate and the University Management Board; and carrying out any other responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by the Council as provided for in the Universities Act 2012, University Charter and Statutes
