    Video Editor

    Code - HRD/TVP/VE/01/2024

    Royal Media Services Limited is recruiting for the above position. We are looking for a trained creative Video Editor with great production and organizational skills. The jobholder is expected to be a team player, a problem solver with great attention to detail and possess a clear understanding of overall content production process.

    The jobholder’s role will include the following:

    • Manage the post-production process of Video production by digitizing and organizing raw footage into polished pieces suitable for broadcast.
    • Assemble recorded footage into a finished project that tells a cohesive story, matches productions’ vision and meets broadcast standards
    • Convert, download and capture footage from various sources (camera persons, producers, talent)
    • Work with and creatively manipulate raw camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphics and special effects.
    • Cut shot sequences to different angles at specific points in scenes, making each individual cut as fluid and seamless as possible.
    • Receive and internalize brief to grasp production team’s needs and specifications
    • Review shooting script and raw material to create a shot decision list based on scenes’ value and contribution to continuity
    • Creatively Input music, dialogue, graphics and effects
    • Create/acquire and update, maintain database of key production elements (music, graphics, sfx)
    • Ensure logical sequencing of finished product
    • Mastering finished products in time and archiving existing projects to ensure that sufficient resources exist to allow for new projects.
    • Continuously discover and implement new editing technologies and industry’s best practices to maximize efficiency.
    • Work with director, producer and talent to achieve desired end result.
    • Trim film segments to specified lengths, and reassemble segments in sequences that present stories with maximum effect.
    • Archive in proper retrievable sequence raw and finished footage.

    Requirements

    • Proven working experience of over 3 years in video editing
    • Bachelors/Diploma in media related or Arts field
    • Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages with a strong portfolio
    • Thorough knowledge of timing, sequencing and continuity
    • Familiarity with special effects, 2D, 3D and compositing
    • Creative mind and storytelling skills
    • Incisive knowledge of the Kenyan and global media tends/scene
    • Skilled in capturing and editing video, audio and text
    • Team player, good attitude and aptitude to learn
    • Can understand and write in English and Kiswahili.
    • Work under pressure, tight deadlines and minimum supervision

    Multi-Media Librarian

The jobholder will be responsible for the smooth running of a multi-media library and ensuring all services required from the library are efficiently provided and undertaken. The person will need to have a clear understanding of the multi-media scene as well as potential industry dynamics.

    The Librarian’s role will include the following:

    • Ensuring safe custody of all company’s information, footage and programs
    • Classifying and cataloguing of raw and edited clips in the library system
    • Accessioning content in the library management system
    • Providing footage & programs to the various users for smooth operation of various platforms.
    • Ensuring easy and speedy access of required content by various users
    • Receiving editorial content and programs from producers, reporters and suppliers,
    • Internalizing station content, daily schedules and content flow
    • Providing reference and retrieval assistance service
    • Presenting daily programs to the presentation editors for previewing, editing and transmission
    • Efficient ingest, dubbing, duplication and transcoding of footage
    • Preparation of regular reports as directed by supervisor

    Key focus areas: Under the guidance of the Chief Librarian, the holder of this position will be expected to provide efficient library services including collecting and managing multi-media content in a structured manner and work meticulously and in advance in stock-flow management.

    Academic and professional Experience

    • University Graduate
    • Minimum two years’ experience in a broadcast environment with a deep understanding of the multimedia content flow process

    Presentation Editor

The jobholder will be responsible for the smooth transmission of the station and ensuring all content is of the highest audio-visual quality before transmission and in line with the set station standards. The person will be responsible for monitoring transmission and giving guidance to the supporting teams while giving creative ideas on programming and productions to enhance our platforms. They will need to have a clear understanding of the media scene and advertising industry in Kenya as well as potential industry dynamics.

    The Presentation Editor’s role will include the following:

    • Internalizing station content and content flow
    • Internalizing the entire broadcast flow
    • Preparing and executing the daily transmission schedules
    • Taking charge of transmission as assigned
    • Liaising with library to ensure adequate content stock and its management
    • Preparing and queuing previewed daily content in liaison with other units
    • Be up to date with overall content transmission changes

    Key focus areas: Efficient preparation and supervision of daily transmission schedules, quality check of scheduled content, working in advance in stock management, good communication and decision-making skills, meticulous schedules management.
