About the role:
- The ESA Regional Training Manager is in charge of designing, implementing, and overseeing learning and development programs across [Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique]. This role ensures that all EBD field and support teams are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive better performance in sales and collection. They will be in charge of project management of key business improvements aimed at driving sustainable market growth and achieving the company’s success.
- The ESA Regional Training Manager will also work closely with local and corporate management to align training initiatives with business goals and ensure consistency in the delivery of training programs.
What you would be expected to do
- Strategic alignment - Foster a synergy with EBD sales management and strategic stakeholders to ensure new and existing training programs are aligned with current and future business goals.
- New market backing/expansions - Assist with the training role hires as guided by sales expansion and new country. Ensure that the training initiatives deliver at least 80% mandatory trained field agents who drive expected sales and collection targets
- Team engagement & performance management - Accelerate team performance in the specific markets by onboarding the right training staff to provide continuous coaching and assist to deliver at least 80% teams performance each quarter.
- Reporting and Analysis - Track and evaluate training metrics compared with business performance outcomes. Provide regular reports to senior management on the impact of training programs and recommend adjustments needed. This should be tied in with physical field audits and stakeholder alignments.
- Budget and Resource Management - Manage the regional training budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. Track and report on training expenses, including travel and materials costs. Ensure the availability of training facilities and equipment in all locations.
- Build efficiency - Work with business systems to continuously reduce mundane team activities and drive focus to targeted initiatives by significant reduction of manual efforts through enhanced automation
- Audit Training Delivery - You will be required to coach on excellence and expectations of delivering engaging and interactive training sessions which guide to action and change of behaviour. This should be aided by regular audits facilitated by the learning score, surveys and regular field visit audits.
- Reviews & workshop - Attend the Easy Buy business reviews for East and Southern Africa. Organize the team workshops with stakeholders to review business and training initiatives. An action plan report should be relayed with timelines on implementation and change.
- Partnership and Coordination- Partner with local managers and HR teams to comprehend regional training needs and customize programs accordingly. Partner with product teams to develop training solutions for new product roll outs. Partner with reinforcement teams to ensure smooth implementation and tracking of key business processes. Coordinate with other regional training managers and the corporate training department to ensure consistency and alignment of training programs across the organization. Act as a liaison between the region and corporate management, ensuring that regional training initiatives assistance overall business strategies.
- Training Content Development- Maintain the standards of content development across teams and will be in charge of high level content creation as per guidelines provided by the Africa Training Manager
- Pilot Training Management- Work with cross-functional teams deploying pilots and regional mentors, to ensure alignment of pilot training plans with pilot goals
- Training Reporting- Prepare regular training reports and evaluation, highlighting key performance indicators, training outcomes, and recommendations for improvement to senior management.

- Hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Human Resources, Education), organizational development or equivalent experience. Masters qualifications is an added advantage
- Are experienced in managing team with strong mentorship skills.
- Possess a minimum 8 years of experience in training or instructional design, with at least 2-3 years in a management or mentorship role, proven experience in training and development, preferably in the solar energy or renewable energy industry.

- The Regional Business Manager will guide sales, collections and entire business operations in the region they are assigned to for the direct distribution of Sun King Solar products sold on a Pay-As-You-Go basis (also called and recognized as the "EasyBuy" Business unit). This is done through an extensive network of agents called “Field Sales Executives” who visit door-to-door and sell. EasyBuy technology and services allow customers to purchase units by paying for their Solar products in small instalments, thus ensuring they are highly affordable for off-grid or rural customers.
- The Regional Business Manager is ultimately accountable for generating sales, ensuring collections are timely and accurate and keeping the entire direct distribution network growing rapidly in a sustainable manner, with the help of his team that typically consists of Area Business Managers, Sun King Store Executives, and Field Sales Executives of the region.
What you would be expected to do
Hire, retain and motivate the entire regional team for the best performance:
- The Regional Business Manager’s team typically consists of Area Business Managers, Sun King Executives, and Field Sales Executives (there may be some variations based on the region).
- The Regional Business Manager is expected to ensure they create a world-class winning team in their regions that is disciplined, process-oriented, and devoted to delivering the best customer experience.
Training:
- Provide training to the Area Business Managers on several aspects of the business such as sales, collections, product, technical, inventory and logistics related.
- Ensure they are fully aligned and managed professionally, demonstrating the highest integrity, ethics, and professionalism while dealing with Sun King customers.
Provide role clarity to Area Business Managers, Regional Mentors, and Sun King Store Executives:
- Provide complete clarity to the regional team related to their day-to-day tasks, sales & collections plans, routes and targets. This includes ensuring that your sales team has a pre-settled sales route/area to sell in, they acknowledge how to demonstrate and sell Sun King products, they have the confidence to be able to present and resolve basic customer queries on the spot, and they have access to Regional Business Manager at all times in case of questions and concerns.
Field visits:
- Have a weekly touchpoint with every Area Business Manager and Top 10 Field Sales Executives in each area – either through in-person meetings, making a joint sale or having a call. Every week, resolve all possible issues faced by the Field Sales Executives and report them to your Regional Business Manager.
- Ensure that the first ten sales of each Area Business Manager are done along with the Regional Business Manager in the area and some Field Sales Executives to ensure that each Area Business Manager fully acknowledges the core sales and collection process.
Conduct Joint Fieldwork with Area Business Managers:
- Conduct joint fieldwork with Field Sales Executives to provide weekly sales and collection training and drive Field Service Executives' engagement. This includes doing night activations, market activations, visiting local communities and gatherings such as SACCOs, Self Help groups, retail centers and markets to make group sales.
Exceed your sales & collections targets:
- Meet or exceed sales and collection targets established and consented upon on the 2nd of every month with your sales supervisors.
- Provide daily, and weekly updates on sales, Energy Officer recruitments, customer issues and resolutions, and New Area Launch preparations as expected and aligned with your Manager.
Drive robust field sales processes:
- Review sales and collection progress with your Area Business Managers daily and provide adequate training to drive better collections in your areas. This includes customer and area profiling, ensuring regular and timely collection follow-ups, resolving customer issues to ensure they make payments, and repossessing the systems as a last recourse if the customer defaults.
Remain externally focused:
- Keep an eye on the market within your region and ensure you take adequate measures to protect and grow our business from rival pressures.
- Engage the management team and take measures to ensure Sun King remains a paramount brand name in solar products for your area.
- Resolve customer issues: Provide world-class assistance to your customers regarding product delivery, training on how to use and make payments, installation, and after-sales warranty issues.
- Ensure that you work with your Energy Officers to establish clear expectations and processes to resolve all customer issues within 24 hours.
- Control Marketing and Other spend: Provide adequate marketing assistance and equipment (such as smartphones) necessary to all your Areas. Ensure we get maximum return on investment for all the costs we incur in areas of marketing, supply chain, store maintenance and smartphone issuance.
Review meetings with Areas:
- Ensure that Area Business Managers conduct periodic table meetings and reviews with all Energy Officers under their purview.
- Conduct surprise visits to field meetings and areas to ensure that the sales processes and standards observed are of the highest quality.
- Recognize outstanding performers from time to time and ensure the motivation of the entire regional team is maintained at an all-time high.

Training of energy officers:
- Provide training to Energy Officers: on several aspects of the business such as sales, collections, product, technical, inventory and logistics related. Ensure that they are fully equipped and managed professionally, demonstrating integrity, ethics, and professionalism while dealing with customers.
Provide role clarity to energy officers:
- Provide complete clarity to Energy Officers related to their day-to-day tasks, sales & collections plans, routes and targets; this includes ensuring Energy Officers have a pre-arranged sales route/area to sell in, they demonstrate and sell Sun King products, and they have the confidence to present and resolve basic customer queries on the spot. They have access to the Area Business Manager in case of questions and concerns.
Daily field visits:
- Have a weekly touchpoint with every Energy Officer in your area – either through in-person meetings, making a sale to the customer in your area or having a call. Resolve all possible issues the energy officers face and report them to your Regional Business Manager every week. Ensure that the first five sales of each Energy Officer are made along with the Area Business Manager in the area by each Energy Officer to ensure that each Energy Officer has full grasp of the core sales and collection process.
Work with energy officers:
- Conduct joint fieldwork with a group of Energy Officers to provide sales and collection training weekly and drive EO engagement. This includes doing night activations, market activations, visiting local communities and gatherings such as SACCOs, Self Help groups, retail centres and markets to make group sales.

Ensure that you work with your energy officers to establish clear expectations and processes to resolve all customer issues within 24 hours.
Review meetings with energy officers:
- Conduct weekly table meetings with Energy Officers and ensure that you have a Regional Business Manager present in those meetings to resolve any outstanding customers or Energy Officer issues. Coordinate, plan and organise the meeting to have maximum attendance and progress. Recognise outstanding performers from time to time and ensure the motivation of Energy Officers is maintained at an all-time high.

- Hold minimum of a diploma from a recognized institution preferably in sales and marketing. A degree will be an added advantage
- Have at least three years of field sales experience, preferably in FMCG, Micro-Finance, or Telecom.

About the role:
- As an ethical hacker, in this role your principal mission will be to identify security loopholes in various vendor smartphones and advise on security considerations.

Identifying information dissemination channels:
- Perform reconnaissance and test various hacking solutions available over the internet (Dark web, Forums etc).
