    Global Youth Engagement Lead

    Responsibilities

    • Research, Compile and Enrich One Acre Fund's Youth Learnings -
    • You will work with the Monitoring & Evaluation and HCD teams to gather learnings on the demographics, socio-economic status, farming systems, and daily lives of young smallholder farmers - through surveys, focus groups, and formative research.
    • You will generate and compile insights into young farmer priorities, barriers, needs, pain points and aspirations.
    • Inform One Acre Fund’s Youth Strategy and Programming -
    • Based on research and learnings, you will help to inform and scope new products and services to pilot, which are attractive and impactful for young farmers.
    • You will support on evaluation of pilots, with a focus on impact, cost-effectiveness and scalability.
    • You will facilitate conversations between in-country and global leads on how to best apply research and trial learnings.
    • Over time, you will propose and co-design clear and practical recommendation for scale-up of initiatives aimed at addressing the barriers and opportunities faced by young farmers.
    • Building these learnings and developing youth-focused programming will take time. This is an ongoing, iterative process as we learn, pilot, and - eventually - begin to scale proven innovations. Your role is to help steward the evolution of - and ongoing improvements to - our youth strategy over the long-term.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in the social sciences or any related field
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience working on design and implementation of youth-focused programming or system changes, in the context of smallholder agriculture.
    • Preference will be given to candidates with:
    • Experience using data to support decision-making with senior leadership and implementing teams.
    • Experience developing communications, marketing, or training strategy and materials.

    Agriculture Research & Partnerships Manager

    Responsibilities

    • Research strategy - You will design and support teams in implementing efficient projects to evaluate the impact of new agricultural products, recommendations, or information/advisory services. This will include selecting experimental approaches to balance the need to evaluate impact, scalability, and usability.
    • Spatial and temporal optimization of agronomic guidance - You will ensure farmers receive agronomic recommendations tailored to their capacity, location, and evolving season conditions (e.g., variety selection, seeding rate, fertilizer composition, rate, and application timing).
    • Technical communication - You will analyze and synthesize data & insights from internal and external sources, using your scientific knowledge to translate complex technical concepts into concise & compelling communication tailored to a range of audiences (e.g. smallholder farmers, internal leadership teams, government officials)
    • Knowledge exchange - You will participate in two-way information sharing with a range of partners (e.g. universities, CGIAR, NARES, seed companies, donors, and governments) to share outputs and priorities emerging from our operations and research and ensure we are well-positioned to capitalize on new learning and priorities arising elsewhere.

    Qualifications
    Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

    • Advanced degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, Soil Science, or related field. PhD preferred.
    • Expertise in at least two of (a) fertilizer formulation & evaluation, (b) soil carbon dynamics (c) crop physiology and GxExM interactions, (d) systems agronomy
    • 5+ years' experience in research and extension with a focus on smallholder agriculture in the tropics
    • Strong research skills with the ability to conduct literature reviews, synthesis of complex information, and data analysis (proficiency in R preferred).
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into concise and compelling content.
    • Experience with creating a variety of content types, including white papers, case studies, blogs, and digital media.
    • Familiarity with agricultural R&D processes, experimental design, and data interpretation.
    • English required. French, Swahili, Kinyarwanda preferred.
