The Role:
- The Compliance Manager is an integral member of the Center’s recently expanded Office of the General Counsel (OGC). Reporting to the Director of Compliance, the Compliance Manager will help ensure that the Center fulfills its legal obligations, including those required by the organization’s funders, and adheres to industry best practices.
- As part of this role, the Compliance Manager will help identify, create and enhance Center policies, systems, and processes to ensure compliance with legal and grant requirements. The Compliance Manager will provide strategic input and operational support to Center staff throughout the proposal/award lifecycle. The Compliance Manager will assist in the development and rolling out of compliance trainings to build staff and partner capacity, with the goal of mitigating risk and maintaining compliance with donor requirements.
The Compliance Manager will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. The Center currently operates in a hybrid model, allowing staff to work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Office of the General Counsel in the development and/or enhancement of Center policies, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and award requirements.
- Review Donor and Partner funded solicitations and award terms and conditions and provide guidance on mandatory requirements and/or potential risks, including those posed by partners.
- Participate in planning, designing, and executing periodic internal compliance audits and assist in response to external audits, including as related to Donor funded projects. Draft audit reports and proposed corrective action plans. Conduct follow-up of action plans and recommendations.
- Participate in award kick-off meetings to ensure that donor requirements are well understood and that plans are in place to meet the requirements.
- Help create and maintain a dashboard and tools to facilitate grants management compliance.
- Review Center Partnership and Donor Funded Procurement Actions as necessary.
- Assist in correspondence to donors, partners, and auditors.
- Provide donor compliance and risk management guidance to staff and partners throughout project implementation.
- Develop and conduct trainings to support the Center’s compliance programs and build staff and partner capacity.
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Local and International travel to locations of assignment (10%)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, business administration, commerce, law, or related field is required.
- Eight years of progressively responsible professional work experience in a similar position at an International Organization, Non-Governmental Organization, Donor Agency, or Embassy. Experience working with restricted donors, specifically, DFID, SIDA, UN Agencies, EU-based donors, foundations, and Global Affairs Canada is a plus.
- Experience with grants and partnership management, donor compliance, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to anticipate issues and address issues proactively.
- Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls and best practices with ability to support adherence to policies and procedures among various programs/functional units for both staff and partners.
- Able to juggle competing priorities, follow through on assigned tasks or projects, and exercise good judgment in consulting supervisor when needed.
- Demonstrated ability in designing and delivering trainings.
- Experience assisting with internal and external audits is a plus.
- Flexible to make calls and meetings outside standard working hours to accommodate colleagues working in other time zones.

The Role:
- Reporting to the Senior Advocacy Adviser Africa, the Advocacy Advisor for Africa, will support the delivery of the Center’s strategic policy and advocacy objectives, working with key partners to build, strengthen and implement SRHR standards and norms regionally and internationally.
- The Advocacy Adviser, Africa will be based in the Nairobi Office.
Primary Responsibilities:
Technical support and Norm building:
- Lead in engagement with the regional and sub regional human rights mechanisms
- Provide technical support to regional human rights mechanisms and support special Mandates & procedures in executing their mandates as necessary.
- Support partner capacity strengthening for an increased engagement with Human rights mechanisms.
- Deliver a range of influencing activities including events, undertaking publications, drafting position papers and briefings, convening policy dialogue with policymakers, etc.
- Follow key influencing processes and provide briefings and updates as required to relevant Center staff and partners.
- Map out key influencers that the Center should engage with on the SDGs and AU policy processes working closely with the relevant partners and strategic allies.
- Represent the Center and engage with a range of key external stakeholders, including government officials, regional and global institutions, think tanks, academics, private sector and other key advocacy audiences.
- Draft and communicate analysis and insight of key policy and political trends and issues for internal and external audiences.
- Work with the Africa team to deliver the overall policy and campaigns strategy and organizational priorities.
- Track, monitor and evaluate the Center’s influencing strategies and contribute to team planning, budgeting, and annual reporting.
Implementation
- Lead in implementation of court decisions in the Center’s focus countries in Africa and collaborate with partners for implementation in the focal countries.
- Build relationships with relevant line ministries and legislators in Center’s focus countries in Africa
- Support partner efforts towards national level legislative and policy processes in the focal countries
- Coordinate strategic advocacy partnerships for purposes of implementation
- Support national level implementation of decisions and recommendations from human rights mechanisms (UN & regional)
- Undertake research to document and expose human rights violations/ to communicate impact of our work.
- Develop project agreements, as needed, and monitor activities and expenses relating to them.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in law or other relevant degree required with 8+ years professional and/or relevant experience.

The Role:
- Reporting to the Director, Program Operations Africa, the Senior Manager, Program Finance is responsible for providing financial leadership, strategy, risk management and oversight to the Africa Programs team. The incumbent will ensure that the regional program budget aligns with the program strategy, and ensure prudent financial management, controls, and efficient budgetary allocation and implementation. The incumbent will primarily work within the Africa program operations team and will be expected to collaborate with other teams in the Nairobi Office and the larger organization.
- The Senior Manager will be based in the Nairobi, Kenya office in a hybrid model of 3 days working in office and 2 days working from home.
Primary Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership and Management
- Develop and manage the regional budget including regional forecasts and reprojections aligned to the regional strategy and workplans in close coordination with the regional team.
- Actively contribute to the development and periodic review of the Africa program workplans and ensuring alignment of the workplan to the regional budget.
- Accountable for ensuring and monitoring delivery against the financial plans through targeted financial analytical reviews and forecasting accuracy.
- Maximize spending and cost recovery on restricted grants, in line with donor regulations.
- Ensure financial and compliance policies and procedures are well understood; accountability is clear, carrying out proper management review of financial expenditure for the Program.
- Internal control - ensuring that funds are used as intended. Accountable for control of program assets and liabilities, ensuring costs are accurately charged against awards or budgets.
- Provide decision support to the Senior Regional Director for oversight of deployment of financial resources extending to all key activities of the region: grant management, logistics, operations, strategic issues, and financial risks and requirements for program and geographical expansion.
- Champion cost effectiveness in general ensuring that the Program is operating efficiently with a sustainable cost base.
- Ensure staff in the Program have the right finance skills to carry out their varied budget management roles including planning, monitoring, reviewing, and reporting on Program finances.
- Be responsible for regional program financial oversight and risk management including ensuring functional risk tracking and management tools on all aspects of regional program financial management.
- Participate in Center-wide cross-organizational teams working to optimize program management, grants reporting and compliance functions.
Program and Grant Support
- Review budgeted to actual expenditures monthly to ensure that spending is in line with budget allocations.
- Work with the Program Partner Team (constituted of the program finance officer, program manager, compliance staff and the relevant advocacy/litigation staff) to support partner assessment, engagement, reporting, audits, and financial management capacity building.
- Partner with the SRD to develop program and proposal budgets and supporting value for money rationales for the Africa Program ensuring that they are in line with the Donors interests.
- Take lead on all project and program related audits. Ensuring compliance and follow through on audit related issues.
Staff management, mentorship, and development
- Manage regional program financial staff, defining expectations, providing leadership and technical support as needed, and evaluating direct reports regularly.
- Manage the performance of program financial staff in the region through staff development strategies and performance management systems.
Qualifications
- A university degree in Finance or Business administration or related field.
- 10+ years post qualification experience in program financial management including demonstrable experience in handling of multi-country program finance, grants, and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with INGO and NGO sector, financial reporting and accounting practices including program budget development, tracking of program expenditure and donor reporting.
- Proven experience in managing large and complex budgets, including sub-granting to partners.
- Extensive experience in working with computerized accounting systems, including familiarity with use of scalable Enterprise Resource (ERPs) and other e-based communication channels and tools.

The Role:
- The Center’s Africa program seeks an enthusiastic, resourceful, and diligent intern committed to reproductive rights issues to learn, participate in and assist in implementing its ongoing projects. Primarily, the internship is meant to provide the successful candidate with experience to use legal advocacy and international human rights law to advance reproductive rights.
- This full-time internship will begin in September 2023 and will run for a period of 6 months and will be physically based at the Center’s office in Nairobi, Kenya in a hybrid model of 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home.
Primary Responsibilities:
The scope of the internship includes, but is not limited to:
- Assisting in conducting legal and policy research and analysis on policies, laws, and decisions that impact sexual health and reproductive rights (SRHR) within the African region as well as global international human rights law and comparative law developments likely to impact SRHR in Africa;
- Supporting the Africa Program’s litigation and advocacy efforts by assisting with, among others, drafting legal petitions, correspondence, briefing papers, internal memorandums, and other advocacy documents and fact-checking sources for reports/cases. Assisting with tracking media mentions and supporting other aspects of program reporting and communication
- Assisting in logistics and communications for program-related events, meetings, seminars, workshops and and reporting on the same.
- Supporting other duties as may be required from time to time including administrative tasks and joint activities with other partners
Qualifications:
- Recent graduate (not to exceed 1 year of since graduation) with a Master of Laws degree .. Demonstrable knowledge of international law, international human rights, women’s rights, or other related fields. Undergraduate or post-graduate international human rights law coursework will be a significant advantage.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills and exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal presentation skills.
- Demonstrated interest in women’s issues and reproductive rights, including a career in reproductive rights or human rights litigation, advocacy, or research.
