    Africa Internship Program

    The Role: 

    • The Center’s Africa program seeks an enthusiastic, resourceful, and diligent intern committed to reproductive rights issues to learn, participate in and assist in implementing its ongoing projects. Primarily, the internship is meant to provide the successful candidate with experience to use legal advocacy and international human rights law to advance reproductive rights. 
    • This full-time internship will begin in September 2023 and will run for a period of 6 months and will be physically based at the Center’s office in Nairobi, Kenya in a hybrid model of 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home. 

    Primary Responsibilities:

    The scope of the internship includes, but is not limited to:

    • Assisting in conducting legal and policy research and analysis on policies, laws, and decisions that impact sexual health and reproductive rights (SRHR) within the African region as well as global international human rights law and comparative law developments likely to impact SRHR in Africa;
    • Supporting the Africa Program’s litigation and advocacy efforts by assisting with, among others, drafting legal petitions, correspondence, briefing papers, internal memorandums, and other advocacy documents and fact-checking sources for reports/cases. Assisting with tracking media  mentions and supporting other aspects of program reporting and communication
    • Assisting in logistics and communications for program-related events, meetings, seminars, workshops and and reporting on the same. 
    • Supporting other duties as may be required from time to time including administrative tasks and joint activities with other partners

    Qualifications:

    • Recent graduate (not to exceed 1 year of since graduation) with a Master of Laws degree .. Demonstrable knowledge of international law, international human rights, women’s rights, or other related fields. Undergraduate or post-graduate international human rights law coursework will be a significant advantage.
    • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills and exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal presentation skills.
    • Demonstrated interest in women’s issues and reproductive rights, including a career in reproductive rights or human rights litigation, advocacy, or research.
    • Must have strong analytical skills, exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal presentation skills
    • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
    • Have the capability to multitask and adjust priorities as needed; and be a motivated self-starter and highly organized.
    • Ability to handle and maintain confidential matters appropriately.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
