    Lab Technical Officer

    Job Purpose

    • Reporting to the Laboratory Specialist, the Laboratory Technical Officer is responsible for implementation and undertaking appropriate transfer of organizational and project laboratory strategy while strengthening service delivery to supported facilities.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties

    • Conduct frequent site visits to program health facilities to provide mentorship, support, and supervision with focus on high impact strategies for improving service delivery Support implementation of lab continuous quality improvement initiatives (L-CQI) and technical assistance to increase utilization and delivery of high-quality lab services.
    • Organize and facilitate trainings and other capacity strengthening activities for project staff, healthcare workers and implementing partners, as necessary.
    • Conduct data reviews, report writing and participate in project review meetings, proposal development, stakeholder engagement and any other requirements as outlined by CHAK or the donor.
    • Provide guidance for upgrading and establishing labs towards SLMTA/SLIPTA accreditation.
    • Ensure the implementation of best practices in sample collection, storage, and validation, return of results and analysis of trends in results in alignment with government and donor policies and procedures.
    • Support and strengthen an effective specimen transportation system and its scalability in the counties of project operation, including coordination with relevant partners and other programs.
    • Support further expansion and coordination of the Point of Care techniques to diagnose HIV and other opportunistic infections.
    • Support coordination and implementation of a national quality assurance program on HIV recency testing, HTS, CDC and VL EQA.
    • Develop and strengthen a platform for dialogue and addressing key laboratory issues within the county and sub-counties of project operation; Build and maintain good relationships with CDC, Ministry of Health, County Health Management Teams, Implementing partners and other stakeholders.
    • In collaboration with the county teams ensure maintenance of equipment inventory, calibration / certification and testing of equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and safety of performance.
    • Collaborate with County Health Management and National Supply Chain system to ensure support and provision of uninterrupted supply of Laboratory Commodities.
    • Provide guidance on procurement of laboratory supplies to ensure certified standards and quantities of supplies are met.
    • Collaborates in the review and preparation of quarterly, semi - annual and annual donor reports.

    Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

    • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or relevant advanced qualifications.
    • At least five (5) years of HIV program implementation experience is required.
    • Registration with the relevant professional bodies and an active practice license.
    • Good understanding of HIV/TB clinical care .
    • Excellent management abilities within a multi-disciplinary team, with capability to support, train, and mentor others.
    • Understanding of the Kenya Health system and experience working with government institutions, counties, and local partners.
    • Ability to anticipate, prioritize and manage multiple tasks with keen attention to detail and capability to follow through and meet deadlines.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Good use of MS Office packages and office automation solutions

    Deputy Chief of Party

    Job Purpose:

    • The job holder is responsible for providing overall program activity management and technical leadership ensuring technical soundness, quality and safety of interventions delivered at facilities in alignment to donor requirements, national guidelines, and global best practices.

    Department: Health Programmes Department

    Report To: Chief of Party

    Supervision: Service Delivery Advisors

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Design and implement quality Prevention, Care and Treatment services at supported facilities to meet targeted objective and needs of beneficiaries.
    • Serve as program technical lead by providing guidance to the Clinical Technical Advisory Program Team in activities including design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation in coordination with the Program Director.
    • Ensure program activities are conducted professionally to reflect best practices including but not limited to organizational policies, PEPFAR, UNAIDS, WHO, Ministry of Health guidelines.
    • Provide technical quality assurance through support site improvement and monitoring systems at facility level as well as capacity building, mentoring and technical support to Clinical Technical Team and Site Level Staff.
    • Participate in development of training materials, Standard Operating Procedures, Job Aids, and supportive supervision tools required to ensure program technical excellence and good client outcomes.
    • Develop and maintain good relationships with Donors, Ministry of Health teams, County Government Health Management teams, Implementing Partners/Sub-recipients, and other stakeholders.
    • Lead knowledge management, scientific and technical leadership efforts and the documentation of lessons and project outcomes.
    • Ensure program strategies and approaches are evidence based and aligned with relevant guidelines.
    • Participate and provide leadership at relevant technical advisory and policy meetings and forums.

    PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:

    Academic & Professional Qualifications:

    • Masters or Advanced degree in a Clinical or Public Health discipline (Medicine, Nursing, Epidemiology)
    • Hold a Certificate of Registration from a relevant Professional Council
    • Hold a Valid Practice License from a relevant Professional Council

    Experience:

    • At least 8 years technical leadership experience working in health sector.
    • 5 years’ experience in HIV and TB Prevention, Care and Treatment.
    • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of planning and designing interventions in HIV/AIDS.
    • Demonstrable ability to report, monitor, evaluate budgets.

    Communications Officer

    Job Purpose

    • The purpose of this position is to provide support to the communication function for the CHAP Stawisha project. This will include enforcing branding and marking guidelines, development, and production of communication materials like photography, videography, and support during project events. Additionally, incumbents will be expected to work with CHAK Senior Communications Officer to identify, research and develop high quality success stories which will be used by donors and project staff to produce communication materials.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties

    • Organize and manage CHAP Stawisha photo/video library, ensuring that all materials are well organized, up to date and accessible for program staff use and reference.
    • Maintain strong relationships with all cluster teams and check in on a weekly basis for story leads, success story suggestions.
    • Develop and disseminate Audio visual content (record audio/ video clips of beneficiaries to enhance visibility of program’s work.
    • Design, copywriting, and development of project SOPs, tools and job aids within the branding and marking guidelines of the donor.
    • Work with the senior communications officer to develop and implement a communications plan to track impact of project in the community.
    • Maintain and create content for blogs, news, video and social channels such as Twitter, Linked-In, YouTube and Facebook (or equivalent) on a regular basis and share the same with CHAKs Communications team for upload in CHAK’s web pages.
    • Maintain strong relationships with all cluster teams and check in on a weekly basis for story leads, success story suggestions.
    • Provide support to ensure that all CHAP Stawisha supported facilities, equipment, offices, and vehicles are correctly branded and marked in line with donor requirements.
    • Work with the CHAK communications office to maintain a robust and up to date database of scene setters for all facilities supported by the project.
    • Design and disseminate County factsheets and reports on a quarterly basis to all relevant internal and external stakeholders.
    • Provide technical support (photography and videography- including editing and production) for documentation of urgent need and high impact stories, case studies, learning series, technical briefs and documentaries that showcase CHAP Stawisha work and impact.
    • Respond to immediate requests from Communication lead for updates on programs and or events.

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field (communications, journalism, marketing, public relations).
    • Strong interest in HIV/TB and OVC programming.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (English and Swahili fluency required).
    • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
    • Photography and/or videography skills and extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite software (similar software).
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
    • Proactive, results-oriented, and service-oriented
