    Intern - Administrative Support

    Responsibilities  

    • Perform, the full range of front office management and administrative support functions.  
    • Performs administrative duties, as required (e.g., travel, stock requisition of office supplies, and assists in the identification of office technology needs, maintenance of equipment, software, and systems, organizes and coordinate seminars, conferences, and translations).  
    • Support with travel logistics arrangements e.g., flight bookings, car hire, visa applications and accommodation booking.  
    • Support in compilation and updating of inventory of nonexpendable items.  
    • Support in the organizing of meetings, trainings and conferences held in Nairobi including liaison with participants, conducting site visits, and assisting with writing minutes.  
    • Support in maintaining orderly files on ongoing projects and project/programme.  
    • Support with meeting preparations, such as providing background documents, talking points, PowerPoint presentations, and other tools to engage meeting participants in conversation and learning.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),  
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),  
    • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.    
    • Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).  
    • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.  Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.  Preferred areas of study: 4th Year Undergraduate.  
    • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.  
    • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.  
    • Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application.

    • Logistics knowledge is required. 
    • Please explain how you would handle a meeting of 200 meeting participants.  Knowledge in the French language is desirable.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

    Research for Regional State of the Cities Reports Consultancy

    Duties and responsibilities

    Under the supervision of the Chief, Knowledge and Innovation Branch, the consultant will perform the following duties:  

    • Conceptualize and develop strategy for regional state of the cities reports  Undertake research and policy analysis on regional urban trends and conditions to identify policy solutions  
    • Develop a long-term corporate strategy for regional state of the cities reports  Provide data and research inputs for the preparation of regional state of the cities reports  
    • Support partnerships with regional organizations and other relevant actors  for the regional state of the cities reports  Support internal coordination and partnerships with regional offices and programs for coherence  
    • Support regional data urban observatories for regional state of the cities reports  Support the organization of events on regional state of the cities reports at the World Urban Forum  Support resource mobilization strategy for regional state of the cities reports  Organize events at regional urban forums and meetings on the regional state of the cities reports

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in in development studies, urban planning, international relations, economics or related fields is required. A first university degree with a combination of two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.  Experience in urban research and policy analysis is required  At least two years of experience in sustainable cities, development research and policy is required.
