    Stakeholder Engagement with Evidence Specialist

    Overview

    • The Stakeholder Engagement with Evidence and Process Specialist will be expected to lead and support work across multiple projects and countries to bring evidence and stakeholders together through strategic and inclusive engagement processes to inform decision-making for enhanced outcomes in natural resource management and sustainable development. The role will also engage in research and knowledge production linked to the engagement processes.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Design and project manage strategic stakeholder engagement processes including stakeholder mapping, facilitating consultation processes for strategic understanding of diverse stakeholders and their needs and priorities.
    • Run (and enhance) co-design processes using human centered design methods (largely for   decision dashboards).
    • Co-design and facilitate workshops (both in-person and virtually) globally and at local and national levels.
    • Oversee structured engagement and strategic relationship building with various stakeholders over time.
    • Explore and bring in new engagement methods and processes, by expanding approaches to
    • Incorporate cutting edge pedagogy to the SHARED team.                       
    • Build capacity of engagement focal points in projects and country offices and develop and deliver training materials.
    • Liaise with other project ‘staff’ to build capacity and co-ordinate efforts around evidence needs and engagement.
    • Design and implement research around stakeholder engagement with evidence and contribute to scientific writing and co-author publications.
    • Writing and presenting to communicate outputs and outcomes of the work.
    • Understand and strategically design contextually appropriate evidence or interventions for specific project cases.
    • Analyze and synthesize evidence (data, case studies, local knowledge etc.) working with domain specialists so that it is accessible and can be used for project planning, targeting, monitoring and policy influence.

    Other Responsibilities

    • Represent SPACIAL at meetings and SHARED events.
    • Contribute to policy engagement and influence work.
    • Support resource mobilization and contribute to funding proposals.
    • Present/communicate SHARED to internal and external audiences, including the donor.
    • Contribute to the Spatial Data Science & Applied Learning Lab (SPACIAL) team meetings.
    • Contribute to the wider CIFOR-ICRAF community.
    • Any other tasks related to the SPACIAL unit.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Agriculture, Environment, Natural Resources, Governance, Economics, Social science, or related field with an understanding of landscape management
    • At least 7 years’ experience working in research/development projects in the global south and in stakeholder engagement or facilitation across multiple countries.
    • Policy engagement or policy impact work.
    • Project development, management, and budgeting experience.
    • Research synthesis for a policy or practice audience.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in facilitating, mediation of diverse spaces and contentious forums with government, civil society, or NGO actors, ideally around landscapes and resources.

    Education, knowledge and experience

    GLF Youth in Landscapes Network Intern

    Duties and responsibilities

    • The primary objective of the Youth in Landscapes (YIL) Network intern is to facilitate the growth of the network through community building and promotion, and to ensure that programs serve the broader youth community through working with the GLF Youth team.

    Key responsibilities include the following:

    • Support the regular coordination between the Youth in Landscapes Steering Committee and the GLF Youth team;  
    • Assist in ensuring the YIL organizations’ programs, including the Steering Committee organizations and other regional organizations, and the GLF Youth Program are building upon and enhancing each other;
    • Assist in creating and delivering youth programs both at GLF events and partner events, as well as long-term youth programs by coordinating with the broader GLF team; 
    • Assist in mainstreaming youth initiatives and programs across GLF activities; 
    • Support with the development of learning and capacity-building programs for youth;
    • Assist in knowledge management and regularly update activities and information of YIL partners’ organizations – IFSA, YPARD, Youth4Nature, GYBN and others; 
    • Assist in the coordination of YIL Project Teams across the three main regions of work for GLF (Latin America & the Caribbean, Africa, Asia-Pacific); 
    • Support the Youth Communications in maintaining and facilitating engagement and network building on social media, as well as crafting communications material and regularly promoting new opportunities. 
    • Assist with outreach efforts to associate partners and youth organizations across the three main regions of work for the GLF (Latin America & the Caribbean, Africa, Asia-Pacific); 
    • Undertake other key tasks and administration related to young people and the GLF as they arise.

    Education, knowledge and experience

    • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an MSc program in environmental sciences, sustainable development, environmental communications, environmental education, political science, or a similar field. Alternatively, graduated from a BSc program with 1 year of experience (voluntary or otherwise) in the field of youth engagement or mobilization, communications, partnerships or similar fields;
    • An excellent command of the English language is required. Other languages (especially Spanish, French, and Portuguese) will be considered a strong asset.
    • Robust organizational and communication skills.
    • Experience with creating original material and content for social media and running social media campaigns is an asset;
    • Experience with online engagement, youth organizations, capacity development or event management an asset.
    • Experience with WordPress, Canva and Trello is an asset;
    • Experienced in and/or comfortable with remote work is an asset.
    • Must be between the ages of 18 and 35.
    • Previous engagement with the Youth in Landscapes Network will be considered an asset

    Duties and responsibilities
    Required Competencies

    • Provide scientific guidance; ensuring that research concepts and methods are appropriate and meet the highest scientific standards and reflect up-to-date scientific methods and concepts.
    • Collaborate closely with theme coordinators/leaders, within CIFOR, to define and implement research activities in emerging interest areas.
    • Write and supervise publications and other scientific communications.
    • Lead/Supervise project capacity building initiatives.
    • Supervise students and staff and mentor junior project scientists.
    • Represent CIFOR, when appropriate, in national, regional, and global forums related to forest governance.
    • Develop/Maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders.

    • Lead/Coordinate/Contribute to donor reporting.

    Education, knowledge and experience
    Requirements

    • PhD in relevant discipline;
    • Experience in collaborative natural resource management or social science research. More senior positions require the ability to manage projects simultaneously and expertise in more than one region with the ability to work across countries and continents.
    • Experience successfully developing budgets. Scientist positions require budget management success on multiple projects and the ability to ensure key financial objectives are met.
    • Publications record, especially in peer reviewed publications; required.
    • Demonstrated experience in resource mobilization/fundraising and in proposal development/writing. Scientist positions require the ability to provide conceptual leadership and oversight in fundraising and a successful track record obtaining donor funding for research proposals.
    • Fluent spoken and written English. Ability in one or more international language(s) is an advantage.
    • Past effectiveness working with multiple partners and coordinating/participating in research and fieldwork in developing countries.
    • Demonstrated experience working in multicultural and multidisciplinary research teams. Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
    • Values the sharing of information and continuous improvement in a cooperative atmosphere of constructive evaluation and learning.
