    Economic Empowerment Consultancy

    Objectives of the Consultancy

    The consultant shall ensure:

    • Business mapping for viable enterprises for refugees and host community women in the stated project locations.
    • Development of a business entrepreneurship training curriculum for refugee and host community women.
    • Identified refugee and host community women are trained on business entrepreneurship skills.
    • Development of viable group business plans for refugee and host women post training.
    • Disbursement of in-kind grants to the refugee and host women groups as capital for the identified businesses.
    • Mentorship and coaching oversight for the women engaged in the businesses.

    Expected Deliverables and Outputs

    The shortlisted consultant is therefore expected to achieve the following deliverables:

    • Deliverable 1: Provide a work plan in line with the project objectives on economic empowerment strategy for the targeted beneficiaries within 14 days from the start of the consultancy.
    • Deliverable 2: Conduct a quick and simple market analysis and develop a business entrepreneurship training curriculum based on the analysis within 30 days of the consultancy.
    • Deliverable 3: Pilot test the business entrepreneurship training curriculum within 60 days of the consultancy.
    • Deliverable 4: Based on the work plan and project proposal, conduct trainings on business entrepreneurship skills for women within 90 days of the consultancy.
    • Deliverable 5: Develop viable business plans for the trained women in groups, within 95 days of the consultancy.
    • Deliverable 6: Facilitate in-kind grants disbursement to the women groups trained on business and entrepreneurship skills.
    • Deliverable 7: Monitor, mentor and coach the initiated enterprises and document key milestones.
    • Deliverable 8: Document the project challenges, lessons learnt and impact stories.
    • Deliverable 9: Submit satisfactory monthly, quarterly, bi annual and annual consultancy reports as per the donor reporting dates and RCK operational requirements.

    Consultancy Time Frame

    • This consultancy covers a period of 43 days spread out over 12 months. The consultancy is renewable subject to performance and availability of funds as supported by the donor.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics/Business Administration, Gender Studies, Development Studies, and Law with advanced knowledge in gender and micro business entrepreneurship/SME.

    Experience

    • At least 3-years’ experience in economic empowerment of women especially for local groups, preferably in addressing GBV situations.
    • Experience working with a non-governmental organization (NGO) or in the humanitarian field is an added advantage.
    • Knowledge of RCK working environment, protection needs of refugees and displaced populations.
    • Experience providing business trainings to varied community groups.
    • Experience in partnership building and knowledge management.
    • Provide certificate of good conduct.
    • At least 2 years of experience working on GBV, gender equality, women and or human rights especially amongst refugee and or displaced populations.
    • Knowledge of dynamics of the local business/market environment.

    Functional Competencies:

    • Strong knowledge of Economic Empowerment of women and GBV.
    • Strong capacity in working with community groups and capacity development.

    Core Competencies:

    • Professionalism: In-depth knowledge of and significant experience in relevant field of business entrepreneurship, strong analytical, problem solving and drafting skills. Discretion and sound judgment in applying business expertise to sensitive, complex entrepreneurial issues.
    • Communication and information sharing: Strong interpersonal and effective communication (written, spoken and presentational) skills. Proficiency in English and Kiswahili is a must.
    • Technology Awareness: Fully proficient computer skills and ability to use relevant software applications, in particular Microsoft Office, information databases, internet/intranet services, library sources, etc.
    • Teamwork: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds with respect for diversity.
    • Managing Performance: Ability to supervise, coach, mentor and develop community members as required.
    • Self-management and Emotional Intelligence: Stay composed and positive even in difficult moments, handle tense situations with diplomacy and tact, and have a consistent behaviour towards others.

    Reporting Line

    • The consultant shall report directly to the Director of Programmes with guidance from the Executive Director.
    • Shall work closely with the Pillar Programme Managers, and with peer lines to Project Officers based in Nairobi, Dadaab, Mwingi, Mombasa, Garissa and Kakuma.
    • S/he will refer any matters of the contract to the Finance and Administration Director; and the Human Resources Officer.
    • S/he may be assigned interns, volunteers, Community Based Counselors, translators and monitors.

    Consultancy to Provide Psychosocial Services to Refugees and Host Community - 2 Positions - 2 positions

    Scope of the Consultancy

    The consultant shall ensure:

    • Identification and maintenance of referral pathways and networks with other agencies for an integrated and comprehensive mental health and psychosocial services.
    • Provision of psychosocial counseling through individual, group, family and couple therapy in Nairobi, Dadaab, Garissa and Kakuma.
    • Adequate support for multi-sectoral interventions within projects, in accordance with other Technical Officers.
    • Contribution to the capitalization of projects and promotion of technical learning from projects within RCK’s scope. This is by developing case studies, best practices, lessons learnt and other knowledge-based products.
    • Stakeholders are capacity build on counselling.

    Description of Tasks

    • Provide psychosocial counselling to primary beneficiaries amongst the displaced and host populations in individual and group settings.
    • Carry out psychoeducation forums targeting community members.
    • Train and provide refresher sessions for community based counsellors on psychological first aid (PFA).
    • Sensitize displaced and host communities regarding trauma and empowering them to develop own coping mechanisms.
    • Support program monitoring to ensure data is used to inform programming as needed to contribute to high-quality implementation of project programming.
    • Conduct community dialogue forums for enhanced mental health and psychosocial support.
    • Coordinate debriefing session for staff to address secondary trauma.
    • Coordinate and participate in learning sessions through radio shows, social media live streams, and production and dissemination of information, education and communication (IEC) materials.
    • Collaborate closely with the legal aid pillar in terms of case management and follow-up of clients, and trainings of different stakeholders like the translators, Court Users Committee, law enforcement and health professionals, and enhance women’s skills on entrepreneurship.
    • Assist in the development of training materials and facilitate in internal and external capacity building activities on psychosocial related topics.
    • In conjunction with the lead counselor, coordinate the assessment, planning and implementing of psychosocial programs.
    • Conduct surveys and studies relating to psychosocial status and patterns of population groups as directed.
    • Prepare quality monthly internal and donor reports within schedule.
    • Coordinate services to beneficiaries with other organizational entities involved in psychosocial and mental health services.
    • Conduct home visits to assess individual psychosocial needs.
    • Provide support to social workers in the tracking of cases and maintaining records and database of clients.
    • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required, commensurate with your grade.

    Expected Deliverables and Outputs

    • The shortlisted consultant is therefore expected to achieve the following deliverables:
    • Deliverable 1: Provide monthly work plan in line with RCK operational and Strategic Plan, project objectives and agreed on targets.
    • Deliverable 2: Provide satisfactory quarterly and bi annual consultancy reports as per the donor reporting dates and RCK operational requirements.
    • Deliverable 3: End of consultancy report.
    • Deliverable 4: Training reports and attendance lists.
    • Deliverable 5: Quarterly project reports and other reports required by the donor.
    • Deliverable 6: Updates/briefs of meetings, events, workshops, trainings and forum attended

    Consultancy Time Frame

    • This consultancy covers a period of 6 months starting 01 April 2024. The consultancy is renewable subject to performance and availability of funds as supported by the donor. The project is anticipated to end 31 December 2027.

    Requirements of the Consultant

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology or a Higher Diploma in Counseling.
    • Strong analytical and report writing skills.
    • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili.
    • Technology Awareness. Fully proficient computer skills and ability to use relevant software applications, in particular Microsoft Office, information databases, internet/intranet services, library sources etc.

    Experience

    • Two years’ experience with an NGO or related environment; experience with the nature of work RCK’s activities is an added advantage.
    • Two years’ experience of having worked on prevention and awareness of GBV programmes.
    • Excellent project management skills including demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities and multiple tasks.
    • Sound experience in facilitating capacity building projects; and working experience in the field of refugee protection and management.

    Language:

    • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili

    Behavior Competencies:

    • Professionalism: In-depth theoretical knowledge of and significant experience in relevant fields of counseling, strong analytical, problem solving and drafting skills. Discretion and sound judgment in applying counseling expertise to sensitive children related matters, complex legal and psycho social issues.

    • Teamwork: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds with respect for diversity.

    Training and Capacity Building Consultant - 2 positions

    Scope of the Consultancy

    Using suitable methodologies, the consultant will be required to undertake the following specific tasks:

    • Organize capacity strengthening workshops for key stakeholders.
    • Develop and continuously update the capacity / training manual and content.
    • Put in place a capacity development and training plan for the project.
    • Coordinate the implementation of capacity building activities under the project.
    • Development of a follow up outcome monitoring and review services on trained groups to inform future planning for RCK and partner organizations.

    Description of Tasks

    • Conduct training sessions for court users’ committees, law enforcement and health professionals in Nairobi and Garissa.
    • Develop and review training curriculum, programs and materials.
    • Transfer practical knowledge and skills for training development and training management through a day-to-day interaction with RCK staff, government and non-government partners, external experts and other stakeholders.
    • Advise the management team on building synergies and complementarity between staff.
    • Ensure proper quality control is provided to all training and capacity building undertakings under the project through regular monitoring and evaluation, in-process and after-action reviews and by obtaining feedbacks from beneficiaries.
    • Liaise with other RCK staff members and units on admin/logistics/operations matters in support of project activities.
    • Provide inputs to the project progress, interim and final reports.
    • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Expected Deliverables and Outputs

    The shortlisted consultant is therefore expected to meet the following deliverables:

    • Deliverable 1: Provide monthlyWork plan in line with RCK’s operational Strategic Plan and project objectives and targets as shall be agreed with RCK.
    • Deliverable 2: Monthly project progress implementation reports for activities undertaken by 25th of every month. The attachments to this report include minutes, meeting reports, photos and recordings, and activity planning and training reports.
    • Deliverable 3: Satisfactory quarterly and bi annual consultancy reports as per the donor reporting dates and RCK operational requirements.
    • Deliverable 4: Training Manuals for the project.
    • Deliverable 5: Satisfactory annual consultancy reports as per the donor reporting dates and RCK operational requirements.
    • Deliverable 6: Weekly reports that include meeting and activity planning/implementation reports.

    Consultancy Time Frame

    • This consultancy covers a period of 6 months starting 1st April. The consultancy is renewable subject to performance and availability of funds as supported by the donor. The project is anticipated to end on 31st December, 2027.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law.
    • Admitted to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 3 years and above experience.
    • Sound experience in facilitating capacity building projects; and working experience in the field of refugee protection and management.
    • Experience in driving grassroots and high-level advocacy agenda on, especially, refugee protection and management.
    • Excellent project management skills including demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities and multiple tasks.
    • Excellent report writing skills, and proficiency in using the Microsoft Office.

    Language:

    • Fluency in English and Kiswahili

    Behavior Competencies:

    • Professionalism: In-depth theoretical knowledge of and significant experience in relevant fields of legal practice, strong analytical, problem solving and drafting skills. Discretion and sound judgment in applying legal expertise to sensitive, complex legal issues.

    • Technology Awareness: Fully proficient computer skills and ability to use relevant software applications, in particular information databases, internet/intranet services, library sources, etc.

    • Managing Performance: Ability to supervise, coach, mentor and develop junior staff as required.
    • Working environment: ability to be flexible and be on call. Work with RCK staff when called upon.
