The headteacher-Primary School will provide leadership and management for the school, ensuring effective teaching, learning, and holistic development of learners. The role includes overseeing staff performance, maintaining discipline, fostering community engagement, and adhering to MOE education policies and guidelines.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Develop and communicate the school’s vision, mission, and objectives to staff and stakeholders.
- Oversee the implementation of the school’s strategic and operational plans.
- Supervise teaching and non-teaching staff, ensuring they meet performance expectations.
- Promote inclusive education and gender equity in the school environment.
- Delegate appropriate committees to take charge of appropriate activities such teachers’ welfare, SIC committee,
- Serve as the accounting officer and manage school finances in accordance with organizational policies and values of the school to ensure prudent utilization and accounting for the financial resources in the school;

- maintain inventories to ensure the availability of the necessary facilities and items;
Teaching and Curriculum Oversight
- Teach the subjects of specialization to impart knowledge, skills, and attitudes to learners;
- Ensure proper implementation of the Kenyan curriculum and any supplementary programs.
- Mentor and support refugee teachers to ensure appropriate teaching services in the school.
- Ensure teachers prepare, use and maintain updated professional documents ie schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson notes, and other professional documents;

Learner Management
- Maintain discipline among learners while promoting positive behavior and values.
- Monitor learner performance, attendance, and participation in co-curricular activities.
- Support initiatives to include vulnerable learners, including those with disabilities.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build relationships with parents, community leaders, and relevant organizations.
- Promote awareness of the importance of education, especially for girls and marginalized groups.
- Represent the school in interagency meetings and education forums.
Administrative Duties
- Manage all school resources, including finances, infrastructure, and materials, efficiently.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports to the School Management Committee and other stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with Ministry of Education policies and other legal requirements.
- Maintain appropriate professional documents and ensure that teachers/school structures maintain similar documents in their various assigned roles.
Child Protection and Well-being
- Uphold child protection policies and create a safe environment for learners.
- Collaborate with humanitarian partners to address psychosocial and health needs of learners.
- Support referral mechanisms for learners requiring special protection or care.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Use data to assess school performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Implement recommendations from the LWF education office assessments and audits.
- Maintain accurate and updated school data at all levels
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
- Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership position.
- Experience working in refugee or low-resource settings is highly desirable

The Junior School Teacher-STEM is responsible for implementing and evaluating the STEM curriculum, delivering engaging lessons, and nurturing learners’ knowledge, skills, character, and positive attitudes. The role includes supporting teacher development, strengthening community participation, managing classroom resources, and fostering holistic student growth, particularly within a refugee education context.
Key Responsibilities Areas:
Curriculum Delivery

- Support production and maintenance of teaching/learning materials.
- Participate in trainings and teacher learning circles.
Community Engagement
- Support formation of parent groups and participate in PTA activities.
- Promote girls’ education and inclusive, safe school environments.
Resource Management
- Ensure proper use and storage of classroom resources and equipment.
- Keep accurate inventories of textbooks and materials.
Partnerships & Co-Curriculars
- Collaborate with local schools to share teaching approaches.
- Organize and support inter-school academic and co-curricular activities.
Student Development
- Prepare learners for post-primary education.
- Identify and nurture talents, promote confidence and critical thinking.
- Provide career guidance and counselling.
Education Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree in education with two STEM teaching subject combination (Biology/Chemistry, Mathematics/Chemistry, Physics/Chemistry, Mathematics/Physics etc.)
- Registered with TSC as a teacher.
- Experience in refugee settings is an added advantage
