    Intern Communication Officer

    CG/KWL/ALF/KEMFSED/HR/1/032

    Purpose and Scope of Assignment

    Applications are invited for suitable qualified candidates for the post of Communication Officer for the KEMFSED kwale county CPIU. The purpose of the interns is to support the CPIU to ensure timely, organized and swift implementation of project activities. The position assumes the primary responsibility for planning, developing and implementing communication strategies to promote successful implementation of the KEMFSED project within the county. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing partnerships and networks with other project stakeholders for efficient dissemination of information and awareness creation about project programs and activities.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    •  The communication officer will work closely with the CPIU to ensure relevant project materials are developed and disseminated to relevant target groups through relevant media and network channels.
    •  The Communication officer will develop and maintain contact information, materials and relationships with relevant project stakeholders within and outside the county to increase of coverage of project implementation status
    •  The Communication officer will be responsible for designing of project posters and publications
    •  The officer will be responsible for drafting, editing and releasing project advocacy materials and articles
    •  The communication officer will facilitate photography and video coverage and footage as appropriate
    •  The officer will monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of project media materials, maintain a library of media coverage and clippings etc.
    •  The officer will be responsible for timely and quality production of advocacy and branding of project materials such as picture stories and videos etc.
    •  The communication officer will develop and archive communication materials including digital publications, photography, audio-visual materials, clippings etc.
    •  The communication officer will assist in developing visit brochures and cards and support the CPIU in preparation of information kits for visiting project donors and high profile guests/visitors.
    •  The communication officer will support organization of project workshops, seminars, campaigns, events and project review meetings including agendas and minutes.
    •  She/he will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the impact of communication materials and advocacy events/campaigns to target audience

    Requirements for appointment:

    •  A holder of Masters, Bachelor’s degree or diploma in communication, journalism, public relations or any other relevant field from any accredited institution
    •  The candidate should demonstrate excellent skills in photography, videography especially video editing skills
    •  Candidates be competent in design and layout skills in using photo and video editing tools
    •  He/she should have advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher)
    •  The candidate should be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
    • Demonstrated and extensive social media experience is an added advantage.
    •  Excellent written and oral communication skills and proficiency in English and Kiswahili are required
    •  The candidate should have high levels of integrity, accountability and punctuality. They should also be willing to work beyond normal working hours and be a good team player
    •  Must be below 35 years of age.
    •  The parent / guardian of the applicant must have been domiciled in the county for not less than 10 years.

    Intern Finance Officer

    Purpose and Scope of Assignment

    Applications are invited for suitable qualified candidates for the post of a finance officer for the KEMFSED kwale county CPIU. The purpose of the interns is to support the CPIU to ensure timely, organized and swift implementation of project activities. The position assumes the primary responsibility for assisting the project fiduciary team in accounting and prudent management of project resources

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    •  Work closely with the project accountant to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for submission to the national project implementation unit and subsequently to the bank
    •  Participate in project financial audits
    •  Updating of the project internal system with financial data
    •  Recording of accounts payables and accounts receivables
    •  Keep and maintain accurate records for all project transactions
    •  Follow up on timely submission and filing of project staff imprest documents
    •  Reconciliation of bank statements
    •  Work closely with the project fiduciary team to ensure timely training of funded community groups on financial management
    •  Work closely with project fiduciary team to guide community groups on prudent utilization of project funds
    •  Work closely with project fiduciary team to capacity build project staff and community groups on development of business plans
    •  Timely prepare and submit reports on community funds disbursements and expenditure
    •  Any other duties as assigned by supervisors

    Requirements for appointment:

    •  Must have a Bachelor’s degree (Bachelor of commerce) and minimum CPA part II
    •  Must have a background in finance, accounting, banking and related fields.
    •  Good spoken and written English
    •  Computer skills in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook will be an added advantage
    •  Must be disciplined, eager to learn new things and attention to details
    •  Abled to keep up with tight deadlines as/when needed.

    Intern Fisheries Officer

    Purpose and Scope of Assignment

    Applications are invited for suitable qualified candidates for the post of a fisheries officer for the KEMFSED kwale county CPIU. The purpose of the interns is to support the CPIU to ensure timely, organized and swift implementation of project activities. The position assumes the primary responsibility for assisting the funded community groups in implementation of fisheries sub-projects through the KEMFSED project within the county. The officer will work closely with the project fisheries focal person, the county fisheries technical officers to ensure the project objective is optimally achieved through the fisheries sector.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    •  Accurately collecting, recording and analyzing fisheries, aquaculture and blue economy related statistical data from recreational and commercial fishers
    •  Overseeing fishery operations and equipment
    •  Participate in fisheries policy research and development and monitoring of its implementation in the project
    •  Participate in the preparation and monitoring of implementation of fisheries management plans and measures
    •  Ensuring consistent and timely reporting on any KEMFSED project activities undertaken within the fisheries value chain under component 1 and 2
    •  Work closely with other fisheries officers in the project to determine impacts caused by global climate change, pollution and other causes
    •  Any other duties as instructed by the supervisor

    Requirements for appointment:

    •  Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree or a Diploma in a recognized learning institution in the following fields:-Fisheries and aquaculture, Fisheries management, Aquatic sciences, Zoology, or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution

    Intern Environmental Officer

    Purpose and Scope of Assignment

    Applications are invited for suitable qualified candidates for the post of an environment officer for the KEMFSED kwale county CPIU. The purpose of the interns is to support the CPIU to ensure timely, organized and swift implementation of project activities. The position assumes the primary responsibility for developing and implementing environmental and social safeguard strategies and instruments to promote successful implementation of the KEMFSED project within the county. The officer will also be responsible for developing partnerships for stakeholder engagements in implementation of project activities.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    •  Conducting site inspections and prepare environmental health and safety reports on implemented sub-projects
    •  Work closely with the project environmental safeguards officers in preparation of project safeguards instruments
    •  Educating the public on environmental issues and compliance with regulations
    •  Investigating complaints about potential environmental violation and conducting followup audits to ensure compliance with established guidelines
    •  Work closely with the project safeguard officer to prepare safeguard monthly and quarterly progress implementation status reports on ongoing sub-projects
    •  Ensuring project implementation complies with requirements in the environmental safeguards management framework
    •  Ensure consistent data entry for all safeguard activities using the digitized tools for effective monitoring and evaluation
    •  Follow ups on implementation of the grievance redress mechanism system and report and gaps or strategies to improve the same
    •  Consistent and timely reporting on any undertaken environmental and social safeguard project activity as guided by the project reporting templates
    •  Any other duties as instructed by the supervisor

    Requirements for appointment:

    •  Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree or a Diploma in a recognized learning institution in the following fields:-Environmental science, Natural resource management, Environmental management
    •  Recipients are expected to be well-versed with sector applied

    Method of Application

    Internship Support

    • The internship programme provides financial support to cater for transport, lunch and airtime costs all valued at approximately KES 20,000 per month.

    Terms of Service

    • The internship opportunity is a six months contract renewable based on performance.

    Intern’s reporting obligations and work base

    • The Intern will be engaged on full time basis and based on agreed work schedule at the negotiation stage. She/he will report to the County Project Coordinator (CPC) and will be expected to work on a day-to-day basis with the CPIU team members and other relevant departments implementing the project.
