The IT Solutions & Data team which is part of the Business Transformation Unit develops and maintains digital solutions that support programme delivery, accountability, and beneficiary services within the World Food Programme in Kenya.
This position is based in Kenya and reports to Head of BTU & IT Solutions Officer.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):
Application Development & Systems Support
- Design, develop, test, and maintain web and mobile applications (primarily Python-based systems).
- Develop and maintain APIs and system integrations (e.g. Kenya County Office beneficiary management system with third-party platforms like Safaricom, Equity etc).
- Support deployment, bug fixing, and enhancements for existing systems.
- Maintain technical documentation for applications and integrations.
- Collaborate with other developers and stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
Data Management, Visualization & Continuity
- Use Tableau to design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards that support program monitoring and management decision-making.
- Translate reporting and business requirements into actionable data visualizations and maintain standard datasets for reporting and operational follow-up.
- Manage application data structures, validation rules, and data flows across systems, including data migration activities between legacy and new systems.
- Perform routine data quality checks, cleanup, and reconciliation, and serve as the focal point for data-related system issues and user support escalations.
Reporting & Analytics
- Generate routine and ad-hoc reports from operational systems.
- Support programme and management teams with data extracts and analysis.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in reports.
- Contribute to defining basic dashboards or reporting templates where required.
- Use Tableau to design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards that support programme monitoring and management decision-making.
User Support & Collaboration
- Provide second-line support to users for system and data-related issues.
- Work closely with field offices to resolve data discrepancies and system usage challenges.
- Support user training and refresher sessions on system use and data handling.
Governance, Security & Compliance
- Adhere to data protection, information security, and organizational IT policies.
- Support implementation of access controls, audit trails, and basic security checks.
- Flag data risks, gaps, or recurring issues to the IT Solutions Lead.
Deliverables
- Stable and well-documented application features and integrations.
- Clean, validated, and well-maintained datasets.
- Timely operational and management reports.
- Reduced data-related incidents and improved system reliability.
Reporting & Working Relationships
- Reports to: Head of IT Solutions Sub-unit.
- Works closely with developers, programme teams, field offices, and operations staff.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Education: University degree, preferably in information technology, computer science, or a related functional area.
- Experience: Six or more years of work experience in IT support, or digital tools implementation. Experience working in a large organisation is desirable.

Key Responsibilities
Policy and Strategic Analysis Support
- Support desk research and analysis of national development policies, strategies, and planning frameworks relevant to WFP’s mandate.
- Assist in tracking government priorities and policy developments of relevance to WFP programmes and partnerships.
Government Engagement and Partnership Support
- Assist in preparation for meetings, missions, and consultations with government institutions and development partners.
- Support documentation of meeting outcomes, action points, and follow‑up items.
Briefings, Reporting, and Knowledge Management
- Assist in drafting background notes, briefing materials, presentations, and internal summaries.
- Support organization and maintenance of reference materials, databases, and engagement trackers.
Communication and Advocacy Support
- Assist in preparing advocacy and communication materials highlighting WFP’s contribution to national development priorities, as appropriate.
Learning and Professional Development
- Participate in learning activities, briefings, and team discussions related to government engagement and development policy.
- Adhere to WFP values, confidentiality requirements, and professional standards at all times.
Expected Outcomes:
- A short policy and strategic analysis note on selected government development priorities relevant to WFP.
- Background notes, briefings, or analytical inputs supporting the Advisor’s engagement work.
- A final internship report summarizing learning outcomes, skills developed, and key contributions.
Qualifications Required:
- Education: A recent graduate (within the last 6 months) with a Bachelors in Political Science, Public Administration, International Development, Development Economics, Public Policy, or a related field
- Language: Fluency in Oral and written English.
