    Director University Advancement & Marketing

    Ref: KeMU/VC/DUAM/1/1/2023

    Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the Director of University Advancement & Marketing is responsible for fundraising, alumni outreach, marketing, partnerships and collaborations.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Support the university in the implementation of the Strategic Plan in the key priority areas related to university advancement;
    • Work with the Senior Management team in fundraising for university operations and development;
    • Build and maintain strong strategic linkages with the industry, research organizations, foundations and development partners;
    • Develop opportunities for exchange programmes for staff and students;
    • Spearhead marketing activities;
    • Provide leadership, direction, and coordination to strengthen and expand the services provided by University Advancement Office;
    • Spearhead the internationalization agenda of the University;
    • Monitor and create database for university resource mobilization opportunities and position the university strategically;
    • Strategically align available resources that best leverage the talent and tools necessary to reach resource mobilization goals;
    • Build, manage, and steward a strong relationships with the University alumni;
    • Build strong collaborative partnerships and networks and maintain regular communications with all stakeholders;

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Must be a PhD holder (preferably Marketing and Resource Mobilization) from a recognized institution;
    • Must have at least three (3) years work experience in a recognized University or its equivalent, research institution or related organization; experience in marketing and fundraising shall be added advantage;
    • Should have ability to lead, guide, coordinate and facilitate fundraising, marketing, outreach and collaboration activities;
    • Should demonstrate skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities;
    • Should demonstrate ability to spearhead the internationalization of the university;
    • Should have proven record of working with financiers and development partners;
    • Should have experience in grant writing and evidence of funded projects and initiatives;
    • Should have proven networking and collaborative ability;
    • The candidate should be fully compliant with the provisions of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya

    Student Counsellor

    Reports to the Dean of students.

    Job Description

    The Students Counsellor will be expected to:-

    • Provide guidance and counselling services to students and employees.
    • Promote personal, social and career development.
    • Provide appropriate interventions to assist employees/ students with psycho-social related problems.
    • Identify employees/ students with social, psychological or health related problems and assist in getting solutions.
    • Prepare, develop, review and monitor comprehensive counseling plans.
    • Analyze and take appropriate action on feedback from student’s customer satisfaction surveys.
    • Maintain accurate records of counseling services.
    • Recommend to the University Management, those students who may need assistance.
    • Any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Master’s Degree in Counselling and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling from a recognized institution
    • Served at the grade of Counsellor or a comparable position in a University or public service office for at least six (6) years.
    • Undertaken strategic leadership development course lasting not less than six (6) weeks.
    • Undertaken counsellor supervision course lasting not less than four (4) weeks.
    • Undertaken trainer of facilitation course in Psychological Counselling lasting not less than two (2) weeks.
    • Psychological Debriefing Course lasting not less than one week.
    • Proficient in Computer Applications.
    • Registered with the Kenya Counselling Association (KCA).
    • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance.
    • Ability to keep confidentiality of clients’ information.

    Assistant Student Counsellor

    Job Description

    The Assistant Students Counsellor will be expected to:-

    • Provide counseling services at the University.
    • Coordinate activities of Peer Counselors in the University
    • Organize student’s orientation exercise to familiarize them with counseling services at the University.
    • Keep an accurate record of counseling sessions with the students.
    • Prepare and develop comprehensive counseling plan
    • Liaise with academic advisors in identifying the students who need counseling and making the necessary arrangements to help them.
    • Prepare and keep accurate records of counseling services at the University.
    • Recommend to the University Management those students who may need further assistance.
    • Recommending students for work-study programme.
    • Supervise staff under them.
    • Any other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Master’s Degree in Counselling and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling from a recognized institution.
    • Served at the grade of Counsellor or a comparable position in a University or public service office for at least four (4) years.
    • Trainer of Facilitation Course in Psychological Counselling lasting not less than two (2) weeks.
    • Proficiency in Computer Applications.
    • Registration with the Kenya Counselling Association (KCA).

    Senior Lecturer in Computer Science

    Responsible to the Chair of Department, a senior Lecturer/ lecturer shall have the following specifications;

    Responsibilities:

    • Articulating the mission and vision of the University and the department.
    • Initiating, planning and conducting research.
    • Development of teaching and learning materials.
    • Supervising postgraduate students in research activities.
    • Participating in development and preparation of Departmental and Faculty development plans.
    • Teaching and mentoring both undergraduate and post graduate students.
    • Setting, moderating, administering, processing and marking examinations.
    • Organizing and supervising educational activities for undergraduate students.
    • Attending and participating in seminars, workshops, conferences etc. in relevant fields.
    • Participating in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of curricular in the department.
    • Participating in the departmental meetings and other activities for effective and efficient management of the Department and Faculty.
    • May be assigned or delegated other duties and responsibilities by the Dean of School or CoD as deemed necessary.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Doctorate degree or its academic equivalent from a recognized or accredited institution.
    • Must have at least 3 years of teaching and/or research experience at university level since becoming Lecturer/Research Fellow or six (6) years research/industry experience.
    • Must have a minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as lecturer or equivalent of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed journals.
    • Supervised at least three (3) post- graduate degree students to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent.
    • Must have attended and contributed at learned conferences, seminars or Workshops.
    • Must show evidence of continued research and evaluated effective teaching & Success in student supervision.
    • Must show evidence of contribution to university life through active participation in departmental matters, students’ academic advising, School and University Meetings, committee membership and others.
    • Must be recognized and registered by relevant professional bodies (where applicable)

    • Provide professional and community services and initiate linkages and fundraising
    • Carry out administrative and other duties & responsibilities as may be assigned
    • Organizing and supervising educational activities for undergraduate students
    • Attending and participating in seminars, workshops, conferences etc. in relevant fields.
    • Participating in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of curricular in the department
    • Participating in the departmental meetings and other activities for effective and efficient management of the Department and Faculty.
    • May be assigned or delegated other duties and responsibilities by the Dean of School or COD as deemed necessary.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Doctorate degree or its academic equivalent from a recognized or accredited Institution;

    or

    • Master’s degree in addition to a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized University with at least three (3) years teaching experience.
    • Experience at University level or in research or industry and a minimum of 24 Publications points, of which at least 16 should be from refereed journal paper.
    • Must be recognized and registered by relevant professional bodies (where Applicable).
