    Labour Markets Manager

    Job Description

    Overview of the Labour Markets Manager Role: GDI is seeking to recruit a Labour Markets Manager whose main responsibility will be to contribute to the development of a labor market information system for the jobs market in Mombasa.  The manager will be the main contact point for monitoring and evaluation, learning, and capacity building of partners and opportunity youth on data gathering, analysis, and dissemination to influence data-driven approaches in the youth ecosystem in Mombasa.  S/he will hold a leadership role over an associate, the corporate engagement lead, and leading business clusters.

    Demand mapping Strategy and Planning 

    • Contribute to demand mapping strategy holistically and on a pathway by pathway basis.
    • Track, package, and distribute to internal and external stakeholders relevant research conducted by  GOYN and other organizations.
    • Develop a labor market information system in collaboration with other ecosystem players.
    • Engage with other training partners to develop curriculum and  training opportunity youth on data gathering, analysis, and dissemination 

    Data Analysis, Production, and Distribution 

    • Provide primary and secondary analysis of all research data to support the development of or contributions to key findings. 
    • Directly contribute to and manage the creation of research reports and presentations, including drafting the findings report and presentation and collaborating with stakeholders on design and production. 
    • Together with partners provide capacity-building training to collaborative teams and opportunity youths on data collection, analysis, and dissemination including developing key research talking points. 
    • Manage the process and ensure research findings/reports/presentations are announced and distributed. 
    • Seek and manage the development and distribution of innovative approaches for sharing the findings with internal and external stakeholders.

    Partnership Development and Marketing 

    • Building and maintaining partnerships with employers in collaboration with the employer engagement lead. 
    • Develop and implement approaches to disseminate research findings and their adoption by other ecosystem players. 
    • Support the creation and production of original content for dissemination via the GOYN website, publications, newsletters, and other media.
    • Implement a variety of marketing strategies and promotional campaigns aimed at attracting more partnerships for GOYN  

    Fundraising 

    • Research fundraising opportunities; Develop funding proposals and submit them to potential donors.  
    • In collaboration with other team members, prepare quarterly budgets and reports to be shared with potential funders. 
    • Network with relevant funders to identify synergies and develop winning proposals.

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of 7-10 years experience in the area of expertise
    • Bachelor’s degree or relevant equivalent experience. Master’s Degree preferred 
    • Demonstrates in-depth understanding of the private sector, potential job types, and roles available for the opportunity youth in the Mombasa ecosystem  
    • Professional level of technical and managerial knowledge, skills, and experience to manage the technical and operational activities of a team
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion on significant matters related to labor market systems
    • Ability to think strategically and creatively to solve problems and find effective and efficient ways to accomplish goals

    Hospitality Lead

    Job Description

    Overview of the Hospitality Lead Role: The hospitality and tourism (H&T) industry contribute to approximately 12% or $2.3 billion of Kenya’s GDP, with MSA contributing approximately 20%. The H&T industry is also one of the largest employers in MSA, employing approximately 10% of the workforce. Mombasa County’s greatest asset is its youth. 45% of Mombasa’s population is between the age of 15 and 34 years, with a median age of 25. The Opportunity Youth (OY) in Mombasa are well-suited to take up opportunities (formal and entrepreneurial) in the H&T industry but face unique societal, personal, and market challenges which need to be addressed to unlock their potential.

    Position Overview: The Hospitality Manager will be tasked with building a robust Hospitality & Tourism pathway for OY including publishing research, develop learning agenda, and identify innovative H&T models for scale-up, in addition, S/he will play a critical role in engaging with different ecosystem players such as government, business associations, employers, training organizations and the private sector to push for a systemic shift in the Hotel and Hospitality sector. Together with partners such as employers and training organization S/he will implement a pilot phase providing training and employment linkage to 100 youth and broader engagement with over 500 youth and a working group to drive strategy, investment, and policy. GDI is seeking to recruit a Hospitality lead who will undertake the below roles and responsibilities:

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Research and evidence building (20%)

    • Provide support to the Labout Market Manager to conduct demand mapping for current and future skills
    • Engage employers and skilling organizations to co-design a training curriculum in reference demand mapped.
    • Publish reports and best practice case studies on OYs engagement in the Hospitality and Tourism pathway.

    Program Management (30%)

    • In partnership with key stakeholders develop and drive strategies to recruits and training OYs
    • Support placement and post-placement for OY through engaging employers and other stakeholders supporting Youth employment
    • Develop project assessment protocols for monitoring and evaluation for GOYN Learning agenda
    • Manage different teams, working groups, and other partners to ensure program goals are met
    • Manage budget and funding channels for the hospitality pathway 

    Partnerships and Fundraising (40%)

    • Develop and implement an approach to outreach and relationship management
    • Develop and manage working group composed of various ecosystem players in the sector
    • Support Employers Engagement Manager to generate partnership opportunities for job placement
    • Identify and engage key allies to influence policy changes in the H&T industry
    • Implement a variety of marketing strategies and campaigns for more partnerships, network with relevant funders to identify synergies, and develop winning proposals
    • Develop funding proposals and submit them to potential donors  
    • Prepare quarterly budgets and reports to be shared with potential funders

    Strategy (10%)

    • Create and manage long-term goals for the Hospitality and Tourism pathway
    • Develop an evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement
    • Manage and implement interventions to ensure project goals are achieved
    • Produce accurate and timely reporting of program status on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 5 years equivalent experience in the hospitality industry, Education, Youth Affairs, Social Work, Human Services, Early Childhood Development, or a related field (preference for related experience in Mombasa context).
    • Five years of progressive experience with demonstrated talent for forming and leading partnerships between diverse stakeholders in the hotel and tourism industry.
    • Experience in the hotel and tourism industry, specifically in developing strategic partnerships.
    • Strong research and data analysis capabilities.
    • Experience in community mobilization, project management, strategic planning, data gathering and analysis, communications, and/or organizational/systems dynamics.

    DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to work with our stakeholders including youth at the base of the pyramid.
    • Ability to collaborate and contribute while working with people and organizations of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and cultures.
    • Grant writing, administration, and reporting skills strongly desired.
    • Possess strong skills in public speaking and public presentations.
    • Efficient, high-capacity self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced work environment

    Employers Engagement Manager

    Job Description

    The employer engagement Manager will play a critical role in the identification, mobilizing, and working with different partners to connect Opportunity Youth (OYs) with job opportunities in Mombasa, Kenya. The Employment manager will focus on but not limited to three main areas:

    • Demand mapping for current and future jobs that OY can be trained, also use the data to guide the development of a curriculum for training those skills
    • Identification and driving partnerships with training organization to co-design the curriculum, recruit and skill OY with the demand-driven skills
    • Relationship building with potential employers that will provide placement opportunities for graduates out of the training, advise on the current and future demand support curriculum co-design, convene employers, connect with business associations, chamber of commerce organizations, etc., to build programs that support OY and change mindset of employers.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following are the key duties of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties will develop as the network evolves.

    Employer Engagement 40%

    • Map out employers in the ecosystem for the key clusters leveraging data from demand mapping; support sector leads to build out curricula for the prioritized clusters
    • Engage training organizations and potential employers to co-design a demand-driven curriculum for skilling opportunity youth together with the sector leads
    • Be a point of contact to provide advice, information, and support for employers, enabling and supporting them to be able to offer placement opportunities

    Partnerships 40%

    • Engage different stakeholders such as Government, Private Sector, and employers and support regular job demand mapping across different sectors in Mombasa for current and future jobs seeking to identify formal and informal jobs and roles
    • Build out relationships with private sector associations such as FKE, KTB, KEPSA, business councils, Association of manufacturers, SACCOs, finance, chamber of commerce among others
    • Build relationships with employers and attend relevant forums, to promote and influence the creation of opportunities targeting the OYs

    Program management 20%

    • Develop assessment and capacity-strengthening approach for the career development of individual OYs
    • Educate and influence the perceptions of employers considering recruiting OYs through providing awareness sessions, events, etc.
    • Lead in advocacy campaigns and policy engagement aiming at creating an enabling environment for the creation of more employment opportunities

    Qualifications

    Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other valuable presentation platforms. The role involves creating a variety of engaging reports, presentations, proposals, and communication materials
    • Vast experience utilizing databases and handling large volumes of data, analyzing data, research, and use information as a basis for problem-solving, decision making, and prioritization
    • Experience in events organization, logistics, and project management involving the coordination of diverse project needs and stakeholders desirable

    Other Skills:

    • Outstanding interpersonal skills to engage professional and community stakeholders
    • Ability to collaborate and work with people and organizations of diverse backgrounds
    • High-capacity self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced work environment
