    Quantitative Field Interviewers (ProSHI Research Project)

    APHRC is based in Nairobi (Kenya) with offices in Senegal and carries out its work in over 30 Sub-Saharan African Countries.

    The Center’s vision is to transform lives in Africa through research, while its mission is to generate evidence, strengthen research capacity, and engage policy to inform action on population health and well-being.

    The APHRC invites applications for Quantitative Field Interviewers for the Promoting Sustainability of Healthcare Investments (ProSHI) project end line data collection in Viwandani and Korogocho, Nairobi, Kenya.

    The objective of the project is to strengthen public-private partnerships for health, and strengthen mechanisms for financial sustainability of such partnerships, in order to make the health system more responsive to the needs of the urban poor in the long term.

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct interviews on all recruited respondents
    • Complete, edit and submit all assigned interviews for cross-checking and verification by the supervisor.
    • Keep updated records and databases of assigned work.
    • Safeguard all assigned project equipment.
    • Attend and participate in all projects related meetings.
    • Timely reporting of project related issues to the project team for quick and effective troubleshooting.
    • Any other related activity assigned by the supervisor and project manager

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Have completed secondary education and possess a minimum grade C in KCSE.
    • Experience working in urban informal settlements. Experience working in the Nairobi Urban Health Demographic Surveillance system (NUHDSS) is an added advantage.
    • Have proven experience in quantitative data collection and report writing. Experience in qualitative data collection will be an added advantage.
    • Experience working with large health survey programs; Experience in maternal, newborn and child health is preferred
    • Be proficient in Microsoft applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) and experience in using electronic data capture methods in data entry/data collection e.g. Open Data Kit(ODK), SurveyCTO or similar applications
    • Familiarity with virtual platforms like zoom, google meet and ability to conduct virtual interviews
    • Resident of Korogocho and Viwandani will be an added advantage.
    • Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the endline study.
    • Possess strong interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills.
    • Must be able to communicate in both English and Swahili.
    • Flexible and available to work odd hours (when necessary), under minimum supervision

    Quantitative Field Interviewer (CAPS ECD Research Project)

    APHRC invites applications for quantitative field Interviewers in its CAPS-ECD project, “Caring practices and Support for Early childhood development and education among nomadic Pastoralists – informing the development of A Support System.”

    The main objective of the project is to understand the caring practices and support for early childhood development (ECD) and learning among nomadic pastoralists in Kenya and use this information to support the development of a community-based programme to foster optimal ECD (up to 36-months) in rural Kenya (Kajiado County).

    Job Description (Responsibilities):

    • Recruit participants who meet the eligibility criteria
    • Conduct interviews on all recruited study participants
    • Complete, edit and submit all assigned interviews for cross-checking and verification by the supervisor on a daily basis.
    • Keep updated records and databases of assigned work.
    • Review the collected data to ensure all questions are completed prior to online submission.
    • Contribute to data collection progress report writing and providing regular progress to field supervisor.
    • Following-up with participants for missing responses or to correct any inaccurate responses.
    • Any other related activity assigned by the project coordinator during the contract period.

    Minimum Qualifications Required:

    • Should have completed secondary education and possess a minimum grade C+ in KCSE
    • Be a resident of Kajiado County and in particular Kajiado West sub-County.
    • Have proven experience in quantitative data collection and electronic data capture will be an added advantage. Experience in qualitative data collection will be an added advantage.
    • Fluent in Maasai, English and Kiswahili (verbal and written).
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal and report writing skills.
    • Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the study.

    The candidates should be:

    • Residents in Kajiado County in particular Kajiado West sub-County
    • Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the data collection.
    • Flexible and available to work odd hours (when necessary), under minimum supervision

    • The successful candidates will be engaged for a period of about 4 weeks.
