    Research Scientist

    Reports to: Principal Investigator
    Duration: 6 months

    KMR 6 (Short Contract)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Assist in the implementation of project activities
    • Assist with project field surveys and carrying out laboratory assays
    • Support the maintenance of basic analytical equipment such as HPLC, UV/Vis Spectrophotometer
    • Prepare and afford monthly research project draft progress reports
    • Be available for meetings to discuss with the Principal Investigator the project progress of the analysis;
    • Assist with development of data capture tool, data entry and data analysis of project results
    • Provide support in manuscript writing
    • Contribute to drafting of the final report on the key findings from the study

    Required Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent from a recognized University,
    2. Must be familiarity with basic analytical chemistry equipment,
    3. Must be conversant with Pharmaceutical Drug analysis.
    4. Proficiency in computer application
    5. Basic knowledge in statistics will be an added advantage

    Sonographers - 2 Positions

    Reporting to: Study Coordinator

    Position Summary:

    The incumbent, working with study and MOH teams, will be responsible for performing ultrasound scans, training and mentoring frontline health providers to perform obstetric ultrasound for the FAMLI study and other studies in the ARC platform. This will entail performing scans and archiving images for the ARC studies and assisting the ministry of health staff to perform routine scans.

    Requirements:

    1. Diploma in radiography with two years’ experience in obstetric sonography.
    2. A higher national diploma in sonography is an added advantage.
    3. Ability to work with multiple stakeholders including ministry of health staff.
    4. Licensed by the Kenya Radiation Protection Board.
    5. Strong technical, communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills.
    6. The ability to explain technical terms in a clear and understandable way.
    7. Good eyesight and attention to detail.

    Knowledge/Skills & Abilities

    1. Excellent skills in obstetric ultrasound
    2. Ability to work within a team environment and in diverse cultural environment
    3. Experience with ultrasound picture archiving and communication software
    4. Experience working with Ministry of Health staff
    5. Computer literacy in Microsoft office suite
    6. Experience using one or more statistical analysis software packages
    7. Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, resourcefulness and attention to detail.
    8. Works well with minimal supervision, employing sound judgment in problem solving and awareness of own limitations
    9. Work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability and integrity, maintaining positive working relationships

    Duties and responsibilities:

    1. Support coordination of FAMLI protocol in liaison with ARC platform coordinator and study team
    2. Performing obstetric ultrasound scans for pregnant women participating in the ultrasound substudy and other studies on the ARC platform
    3. Assisting ministry of health staff to perform ultrasound for non-study participants
    4. Training and mentoring health care providers (nurses, clinical officers) on obstetric ultrasound.
    5. Explaining sonographic procedures to patients, answering questions, preparing patients by applying the gel to the skin, and positioning the patients on the table.
    6. Selecting and examining images, looking for differences between healthy and pathological areas, and determining if the scope of the exam should be extended, based on preliminary findings
    7. Presenting the sonograms and preliminary findings to the Physicians
    8. Completing the appropriate documentation and maintaining patients' histories and medical records
    9. Archiving ultrasound images using picture archiving and communications system software
    10. Assisting Physicians and the healthcare teams during invasive procedures
    11. Maintaining and cleaning the sonographic equipment

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: EMPLOYMENT IS ON A ONE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH

    A PROBATION PERIOD FOR THE FIRST 3 MONTHS.

    Nurse

    Locations: Suba/Rongo
    Duration: 11 Months

    Qualifications:

    1. Diploma in Nursing from a recognized medical training institution.
    2. Registered with the Nursing council and has a valid practicing license
    3. At least one year experience with Clinical research

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Conduct physical and medical examinations for study participants and treat medical conditions as may apply
    2. Perform clinical assessment of participants & interpret laboratory results.
    3. VL monitoring and counseling, giving feedback to study participants
    4. Administer informed consent to prospective and continuing study participants and record the process appropriately
    5. Respond to questions about the study posed by participants and the community
    6. Develop in-depth understanding of the study’s goals and the logistics required to conduct the study
    7. Track/trace participants for their study visits within the prescribed visit windows to ensure good retention and safety monitoring
    8. Participate in Provider consultation and discussion via WhatsApp will occur upon each detectable
    9. VL test result and for any other issue or barrier to adherence identified by the study staff as requiring consultation, as needed
    10. Report problems encountered to the study Coordinator and consult appropriately
    11. Report adverse events as applicable and document all protocol deviations
    12. Counsel participants on HIV/AIDS and various treatment/prevention on offer. Maintain participant confidentiality at all times
    13. Maintain good relationship with the community, the rest of the clinical team and the other departments in the facility
    14. Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the study Coordinator and designated supervisors 
    15. Works in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability and integrity

    Other required skills:

    1. Minimum 2 years’ experience in HIV Clinical care management including anti-retroviral.
    2. Experience in implementing clinical research studies.
    3. Comfortable working in remote rural villages of Suba, Mbita & Rongo, Uriri Sub-Counties of Southern Nyanza.
    4. Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and preferably Dholuo
    5. Ability to ride a motorbike (with a valid riding/driving license) will be an added advantage.
