    Statistician - Intern

    Requirements:

    Research Administrator (Regulatory)

    Program description:
    This program is collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) whose mandate is to conduct research in malaria, HIV, TB,
    and other diseases. To effectively carry out its mandate, the Family Health Unit (FHU) is seeking to fill the position of a Regulatory Officer within Family Health Unit.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Bachelor of Science Degree nursing, social sciences or a health-related discipline
    2. Experience in Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance
    3. Training on Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance/Clinical trials will be an added advantage
    4. Fluency in Kiswahili and English – both written and oral
    5. Training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and other applicable regulations.

    Skills and abilities:

    1. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
    2. Attention to details,
    3. Ability to work with minimal supervision

    Position Descriptive:
    The Regulatory Officer will report the Family Health Unit Head and will be responsible for ensuring that studies within FHU are conducted in the highest standards possible as per the specific study protocols, SOPs, GCP and all the applicable regulations. S/he must be flexible, keen to details, strict on timelines, have vast knowledge of the applicable regulations to the conduct of clinical research and work within the existing structure, in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability and integrity.

    Specific tasks and responsibilities:

    1. Maintain studies’ compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations as well as all relevant local laws. at all times.
    2. Keep track of all FHU protocols at the various IRBs and the regulatory body with an aim of ensuring strict adherence to submission/reporting timelines.
    3. Maintain documents as required by regulatory agency guidelines.
    4. Organize, coordinate, and document all training undertaken in respect to the study and to file all the relevant training records.
    5. Conduct periodic internal monitoring and audits of studies within FHU to ensure compliance with the protocol, SOPs, GCP and all the applicable regulations.
    6. Assist in conducting periodic internal monitoring activities for studies within FHU
    7. Tracking, documenting, and reporting adverse events
    8. Training of staff on quality assurance issues.
    9. Writing and reviewing of Standard Operating Procedures.
    10. Developing of study source documents.
    11. Any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

    Terms of Employment:

    1. Terms of Employment: One (1) year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service and a probation period for the first 3 months.
    2. Remuneration: Compensation is as per the stated salary scale, which is based on academic level, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.

    Statistician

    Program description:

    The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), through the Centre for Global Health Research Family Health Unit (FHU) has a position in the statistics section. The FHU encompasses various studies focusing on family health among them, the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance Network (CHAMPS) program; Several Pregnancy (pre and post Natal) surveillance studies; COVID-19 related studies and maternal child health implementation studies. The project seeks to fill the following position.

    Minimum Requirements

    1. A Master’s Degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or Health Informatics
    2. At least 4 years’ experience in similar position with demonstrated research experience, in the health/medical research
    3. Excellent computer skills and familiarity with one or more statistical packages (including Stata, R or SAS)
    4. Knowledge of any SQL-compliant DBMS (e.g. MS-Access, MS-SQL, MySQL Postgres, Oracle, DB2 etc); exposure to GIS analysis an advantage
    5. Proficiency with statistical and data management procedures (data cleaning, manipulation, summarization, tables, listings, graphics, and inferential statistical output), and report generation.
    6. Knowledge of Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence
    7. Knowledge and training in epidemiology
    8. MUST have contributed to 1-3 publications of which at least 1 s/he is the first author

    Job description;

    Provide statistical support and data management oversight for ongoing studies in the Family Health Unit. The successful candidate will work with the Principal Statistician, Data Management team, Study Coordinators and the Principal Investigators in planning for data analysis, setting up of analytical datasets, help junior staff carry out analysis using the appropriate tools and technique;, guide data validation and cleaning process; and finally analysing the data. The holder of this position shall be based at the KEMRI-CGHR

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Developing study analysis plans and inputting into data management plans
    2. Guide database development for study data management
    3. Overseeing data entry, conducting routine data checks, resolving queries and generating reports.
    4. Liaising with trial and data managers and programmers about data quality and missing data, verifying data accuracy and validity. Scheduling and preparing progress reports and/or analyses for independent Data Monitoring Committees, Steering Committees, and publications.
    5. Actively interrogating the data for discrepancies, errors, and missing data, in order to verify the accuracy and validity of the data. Reporting and liaising with study investigators, data clerks, data managers and programmers on the quality of the data and resolving any errors according to the study protocol.
    6. Discussing and interpreting results with colleagues and collaborators in the trials/studies.
    7. Ensuring deadlines and project milestones relating to data and analyses are met, coordinating with other members of staff and external collaborators as necessary
    8. Support the production of summary tables and graphics for interim and final analyses
    9. Preparing and depositing research data and documentation for curation and archiving
    10. Ensuring that all study data processes complies with the appropriate data protection regulations
