    Supervisor Of Infrastructural Works & Project Activities

    The project

    The Tree of Life is coordinating a project in Samburu County aimed at contributing to the protection of children living in the Suguta – Maralal area, through the improvement of the services provided by the Consolata Suguta Primary School. The project is located in a strategic area of the County, a few kilometers from Maralal, which is the headquarters of Samburu County.

    The objective of the project is to improve the Educational, nutritional and Protection services offered by the Consolata Suguta Primary School to benefit vulnerable children in Samburu.

    Job Title:** Supervisor of infrastructural works & project’s activities (assistant coordinator)

    Supervisor: local coordinator and The Tree of Life Coordinator

    Duty station:** Suguta Marmar, Samburu County; main duty station will be specifically at Consolata Suguta Primary School, with some activities carried out in Maralal.

    Starting date:** 23rd January 2022

    Duration of the assignment:** 12 months, with 3 months’ probation

    Deadline for application: 14th January 2022

    Role and Responsibilities:

    1. Preparation of operational agreements with the selected construction company.
    2. Preparation of the works schedule, in collaboration with the construction company.
    3. Daily monitoring of the progress of infrastructural works, in compliance with the time schedule and work plan.
    4. Check and ensure compliance with safety standards set by the Kenyan legislation.
    5. Check and ensure compliance with local regulations and specifically the anti-covid regulations of the staff of the construction company, to protect the school staff and pupils.
    6. Prepare and share with the line managers monthly updates and status/progress of the works.
    7. Immediate reporting of any critical issues and challenges in carrying out the works.
    8. Supervision of the testing and the quality check of the infrastructural works, to make sure that they meet adequate standards.
    9. Provision of solution of difficulties and challenges related to the implementation of the infrastructural works.
    10. Support the supervision and overall coordination, planning, management and implementation of all project’s activities and components, acting as assistant and deputy supervisor based on the needs, in accordance with agreed objectives and indicators, in order to meet the project objectives within the budget and the allocated period.
    11. Support the implementing partner in achieving the project objectives and indicators.
    12. Participation to relevant coordination meetings, tables/working groups in Samburu and visibility activities, when required; support the networking with key stakeholders of the sector in the area, supporting the creation of linkages and partnerships with government and private entities and services.
    13. Compile and aggregate narrative and quantitative reports, timely and high quality reports in line with donor’s guidelines and requirements.
    14. Collect visibility and information materials about the project.
    15. Support the development of M&E tools aimed at monitoring, evaluating the project and assessing its impact.
    16. Support the collection of achievements and lessons of the project activities and support the dissemination to partners and stakeholders.
    17. Support the collection of receipts, administrative documents with the support of the project’s Finance team, ensuring that all expenses are properly documented and done according to the available budget.
    18. Work as a team player providing relevant information and assistance to colleagues and ensuring that all project components are interlinked.
    19. Support feasibility studies, data collection and project proposals development.
    20. Any other duty as required by the line manager commensurate with the post and relevant to the achievement of Project objectives.

    22. Knowledge and skills
    23. Bachelor’s degree in project management or related built environment field (i.e. construction management, Architecture, Building Economics or Civil Engineering).
    24. Knowledge and technical expertise in infrastructural works; architectural skills.
    25. Knowledge and experience of project management.
    26. Strong ability to work with partners using effective interpersonal and communication skills and to respectfully interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
    27. Strong analytical skills, report writing, administration, monitoring and evaluation.
    28. Solid organizational/time and project management skills as well as proactive, resourceful and results-oriented.

    Local Coordinator- Samburu

    The project

    Missione Calcutta Onlus is the leading agency of a project, in partnership with Caritas Maralal and The Tree of Life Kenya, in Samburu County, Consolata Suguta. It’s aimed at contributing to the protection of children living in Suguta – Maralal area, through the improvement of the services provided by Consolata Suguta Primary School, located in a strategically a few kilometers from Maralal, the capital of Samburu County.

    The objective of the project is to improve the Educational, Nutritional and Protection services offered by the Consolata Suguta Primary School to benefit vulnerable children in Samburu.

    In line with these efforts, Missione Calcutta Onlus is seeking an experienced Local Coordinator Consultant (a consulting agreement is offered) to support with the planning and implementation of project activities. Such support includes coordination, logistical and administration tasks as well as monitoring and evaluation of activities. A Consultant is an independent contractor and is not an employee, partner, or co-venturer of, or in any other service relationship with the Supervisor. Therefore, Consultant shall be responsible for all taxes arising from compensation and other amounts paid under this Agreement and shall be responsible for all payroll taxes.

    Duties and Responsibilities of Consultant:

    • This position covers an essential role for the delivery and the implementation of the project in the target areas.
    • The candidate should have a very strong knowledge of the territory where the project is to be implemented. The person will work with a high level of independence.
    • S/He should have strong partnering skills, be organised and flexible, adapt at dealing with sudden change, and able to work across cultures.
    • The Local Coordinator (consultant) will be the only direct point of contact for Missione Calcutta Onlus (on the territory) for the entire time of the project, making sure to meet project goals and necessities established by Missione Calcutta. Therefore, strong management skills including ability to provide strategic guidance, project oversight and planning, develop workplans, and manage budgets and project expenditures are highly required.
    • Moreover, the Coordinator shall be responsible to monitor, coordinate, liaison and resolve issues in the project from implementation phase to handing over of the project.
    • The person acts as a focal person for Missione Calcutta in Samburu County and shall work in close coordination with Caritas Maralal and The Tree of Life Kenya to ensure successful implementation and delivery of Educational, Nutritional and Protection services.
    • Therefore, the Consultant will be responsible for the following activities and deliverables:
    • Overall project management, coordination and implementation.
    • Annual planning of activities in Samburu County, monitor and supervise execution of activities, provide updates on changes, and ensure the timely and responsive delivery of outputs and reports.
    • Maintain close contacts and relations with relevant local partners and projects in and around the project’s target area.
    • Maintain close contacts and relations with local stakeholders. Liaise with relevant government stakeholders, NGO’s, other partner organizations and projects, to ensure good coordination and collaboration.
    • Monitor, coordinate and solve issues in the project from implementation phase to handing over of the project.
    • Monitor and promptly report project progress and handle any issues that arise from time to time.
    • Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation and reports at least once a month.
    • Prepare monthly reports and provide information about the local issues, which may affect the project.
    • Participation to relevant and sectorial coordination tables/working groups in Samburu and visibility activities.
    • Support the development of M&E tools aimed at monitoring, evaluating the project and assessing its impact.
    • Support the collection of achievements and lessons of the project activities and support the dissemination to partners and stakeholders.
    • Support feasibility studies, data collection and new project proposals development.
    • Any other duty as required by the line managers/supervisors.

    Diploma / Level of studies:

    1. Required: BA/BSc Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Human Sciences, Humanities, Human Resources Management or other related field.
    2. Desired: MA degree International Relations and Development or related field.

    Experience:

    1. A minimum of 3 years in international cooperation and development field and coordination related experience preferably from NGOs sector.
    2. Ability and willingness to manage project implementation
    3. Actual grassroots experience, working with communities and CSOs
    4. Good numerical, report writing and administration skills.

    Counsellor – Samburu

    Supervisor: Protection & GBV expert; project’s supervisor

    Duty station:** Suguta Marmar, Samburu County; main duty station will be specifically at Consolata Suguta Primary School, with some activities carried out in Maralal and home visits in the territory.

    Role and Responsibilities:

    1. Coordinate and implement the Child Protection – PSS component of the project, in accordance with agreed objectives and indicators, in order to meet the project objectives within the budget and the allocated period.
    2. Develop an annual detailed work plan for the project component for which he or she is responsible with support from the line manager; review this plan each month.
    3. Develop and implement an appropriate and effective PSS strategy for the project, including proactive planning for a responsible exit.
    4. Development of a training plan, in modules, on Psychosocial Support and management of cases of GBV victims.
    5. Delivery of the training plan and the training sessions to the school staff (trainer).
    6. Provision of adequate and individualized psychosocial support to girls hosted in a centre located within the primary school, girls at risk and/or victims of GBV. Implement the Psychosocial activities according to the work plan in line with donor and Tree of Life requirements, including proposing any necessary changes.
    7. Provision of support to the school’s teaching staff in identifying other cases at risk of GBV in the school and in providing an ongoing basic PSS service.
    8. Identification / development of information material for psychosocial support and training activities.
    9. Organization and participation to family home visits.
    10. Support to the organization of awareness campaigns on the Rights of the Child and Education.
    11. Participation to relevant and sectorial coordination tables/working groups in Samburu and visibility activities; networking with key stakeholders of the sector in the area, supporting the creation of linkages and partnerships with government and private entities and services.
    12. Compile and aggregate narrative and quantitative reports, in line with donor’s guidelines and requirements.
    13. Support to the collection of visibility and information materials about the project.
